Applewhite is a fucking moron. I'm sure I will say that a lot today.

Not today

Imagine if Applewhite had this moment of clarity before the season. After watching last week's film he must've thought "holy shit, If I just call some running plays my 5 star recruit backs will do some work!" I'm afraid of what would've happened if Ash had made it this game. No one's dumb enough to still think Case can carry the load but unfortunately they can't see that Ash isn't that much better. We would've seen the same offense we saw last week

I wish the stupid analysts would forget about the 1st two games....or at least show the difference before and after the DC switch. Cause since the switch, our D has done a nice job, except for the 2nd half of the Ole Miss game (his first game after replacing Diaz).

If he can continue to get this D playing like it did against OU, and Applewhite can continue to bring a gameplan like yesterday, Texas should be a very strong contender to win the Big 12

texas fans in a pickle. do they root to win the big XII and risk the return of mack or be content with the beat down of OU and hope for a loss to baylor or tech down the road? i'm of the impression that mack will not step down unless forced to, which would be harder to do if texas gets to a BCS bowl. and tech, baylor and OSU all look beatable.

Well if Robinson can rejuvenate this D and Applewhite can continue to call plays like he did yesterday (and not settle for the cutesy crap), I would be ok with Mack returning. One thing I would like to see Texas do, go after some OL in recruiting, more than 1 or 2 a year. I want to see them going after 3 or 4 a year. We need depth and talent on that OL. Our starters have played well recently, however, we have no depth. Let's build a wall and take advantage of these thoroughbreds we keep recruiting to tote the rock.

To be honest, I want Dodds and Barnes gone far more than Mack. I am so sick of Rick Barnes.

There was one noticeable difference in the UT defense.

They were TACKLING.

Funny how something as simple as improving tackling angles and fundamentals makes the defense look completely different. :dizzy

Just a little breakdown of the Longhorns D so far this year

TOTAL
Yds 2591
YPG 432
Pass 1215 (6.7)
YPG 203
Rush 1376 (4.7)
YPG 229
TO 13 (2.2)
Sack 16 (2.7)
PTS 162 (27)

DIAZ
Yds 1026
YPG 513
Pass 368 (4.8)
YPG 184
Rush 658 (5.5)
YPG 329
TO 5 (2.5)
Sack 2 (1)
PTS 47 (23.5)

ROBINSON
Yds 1565
YPG 391
Pass 847 (7.7)
YPG 211.5
Rush 718 (4.2)
YPG 179.5
TO 8 (2)
Sack 14 (3.5)
PTS 115 (28.75)

This doesn't take into account the opponents' season stats, strength of schedule, or rankings. This is merely a breakdown of our stats.

My personal analysis is this, our defense is absolutely better with Robinson, as opposed to Diaz.....I see it on the stat sheet and when watching the games. Week by week, our tackling is improving. Our run defense is improving. We are getting more pressure on the QB. We are forcing turnovers. Yes, we are giving up more points per game, but the quality of competition has definitely improved.

In the OU game, the Sooners scored 20 points, but one TD came on a pick 6. The other came on a 27 yd drive after a monster KR. Other than that, OU really only had one other legit shot at scoring a TD, but the player dropped the ball in the end zone (and he was wide open). Now, don't get me wrong, OU is not the offensive juggernaut they have been in recent years, but it was still an impressive display by the defense.

Speaking of OU, Finch needs more offensive touches, that kid can fly.

I do agree Augie needs to go as well.

With a new AD, Mack is most likely gone, no matter what happens this year, and I am ok with that. However, I am saying if the Horns have a successful rest of the season, I would not be upset if he returns.....Just get rid of Dodds (already on his way out), Barnes, and Augie.

I've met Mack, he's an incredibly nice guy, very genuine - but his time at UT is done, even if he gets them to a BCS bowl. One decent season doesn't cure the rotting foundation of the program.

The d line was the best it has been all season. They stayed in their lanes and still got penetration. Q. Diggs had a very nice game. Phillips still stinks. The LB are still bad on the whole.

The schedule gets tougher. We will see. There have been very uneven efforts by this group.

Tom Landry stayed too long. If he can stay to long, then is there any question Mack Brown can be put in the same boat?

A head coach creates the atmosphere/culture of a program, and Mack lost control of this ship that is UT Football. A college head coach hires and coaches his assistants and Mack has failed to hire the right people over the last four seasons. The assistant coach re-boot from a couple of years ago has had less than satisfactory results. From the articles I've read, the assistant coaches are all protecting their turf and MB wants to smooth things over and have a happy environment - accountability from top to bottom has gone out the window. Players are neither being coached nor conditioned properly

I don't care what happened on Saturday, the big picture is unchanged. Mack will not have the fire and vision to truly bring the program back to the forefront. He seems like a decent guy and he's done a wonderful job in Austin. I wish he would bow out gracefully and hand the keys over to the next guy.

UT has always been UT, but they were definitely down in the years after Akers.

Mack not only brought them back to prominence, he did his palm greasing part to take UT to an absurd marketing level, sucking in obscene amounts of revenue.

Unless you are getting an advanced degree few people actually use their bachelors degree as it was meant. Here is a little abut me. After I got my degree I went to work for Hewlett-Packard on the PC side. My thinking was I start out on the PC side get some experience and move over to their medical equipment side. Never happened, I spent 15 years on the PC side. 4 year after I started with them, the company split and the medical side went to a newly formed offshoot company called Agilent.

That's how things go, now if I got my Masters in Engineering you can bet I would be an engineer right now. Bachelors are as valuable today as a high school diploma was 30 years ago. Today it's your grad degree that will make your career. Now of course there are exceptions such as a degree from MIT, Harvard etc but no one in this forum can boast that.

Every doctor out there has a medical degree, every lawyer out there has a law degree. And yes, every engineer out there has an engineering degree. Big surprise.

Not every sales person has a business degree, I made my money in technical sales, having my engineering degree allowed me to speak with people on any level from the engineer to the board member.

One of my best friends got his EE from UTSA and is now a director at Lockheed Martin he is over about 100 engineers and every one of them are superior engineers to him. He however also has an MBA and has no trouble speaking with other engineers or board members. His ability to communicate put him up on all the other engineers from MIT and Harvard.

In short, go be an engineer, build a better light bulb but also know there are other uses for your degree that have less to do with engineering and more to do with people.

I know it's hard to understand for someone who is currently in school but about 30 years ago, getting a Bachelors degree was much tougher. Money was tighter, most jobs such as being a police or firemen just required a high school diploma. Today those jobs require a Bachelors degree. This is all about competition for jobs. When everyone has a high school diploma employers will want something that will set you apart, that has become the Bachelors degree. So now with everyone getting Bachelors degrees, what is setting people apart for the better jobs? That would be your higher degrees.

This is what I mean when I say that compared to years past the Bachelors degree is now the hs diploma.

The real crazy thing is that kids that are getting vocational degrees are in the highest demand. You might make more money in your lifetime with your bachelors degree but over the next 10 years (short term) your better off getting a 2 year vocational degree as a plummer or electrician.
