There is no comparison. DirectTV is awesome. You get everything. Even music channels for every type of music that exist. You have alot of options like ordering the nba league pass or get the sports channels. You can even look ahead on the schedule to see what is playing like 36 ahead of time on the remote without buying a tv guide. You can get tivo for $50 bucks and $5 bucks a month and be able to pause tv and etc. This is the way to go.

When it rains it has to rain hard or directTV still works. It hasn't been a problem for me. The most I've seen it go out is 5 minutes at a time. No big deal.

Seriously.
If it rains or even gets windy outside, DirectTV will go Rasho on you. That's why we have directTV and Time Warner.

Seriously.
If the dish is mounted securely and the signal has been peaked properly, you shouldn't experience rain fade very often at all.

Um... you can do all that with Time Warner digital.
And a DVR (Tivo but not called Tivo because Tivo is its own thing) for 10 dollars a month.

Technically, the DVR is something like $12-15 since it includes rental (which you'd have to pay since it's also required for digital service) of the converter.

Time Warner requires a buried cable..........
which imo.........
blows.
My pictures on Channel 2-10 were terrible.
Try watching the British Open in white noise... not a fun sight.

Well, I had a TW Digipak with the HD box. Then traded it in for the DVR HD box. On my bill it says "9.95" for the DVR converter.

The thing is, you don't get as many channels with Directv than with TW.
Like with DTv you get 4 or 5 of the 7 HBO channels. With HBO you get all of them.

Maybe I had a magical Directv Dish, but when I lived in North Dakota where it was always heavy rain or heavy snow on the way, my dish went out maybe twice in three years.

I use to have Direct TV but unfortunately I can't have it right now. If I could.. I would switch from Time Warner in a heartbeat!!
I had for about 5/6 years and rarely did I have a problem because of the rain. I will have it again..oh yes, I will.

You're right I was wrong.
TWC actually offers all 14 while Directv offers only 7.
Check out this page comparing TWC, Directv, and Dish Network.

AHAhahahahah tell me about it..
I had directv free for a year.
And it was totally free for me, all I had to do was buy the box and the satellite.
The card was the trick, there is this program that lets you put whatver you want on the card, through your computer, and by buying this connection thing.
I had all of the channels for a year... ahh gotta love nba tv, and seeing 7 games at a time.
Those days were magical..
Too bad my dad took the satellite and the box.
I gotta go to a pulga and buy another one or something, then go to my friends house for the card..buy it, then tell him to fix it.
But until then I gotta stick to my cable stealage.

That's a bad joke. How is a rainguard going to help a physical obstruction of the signal as a torrent of rain getting between the dish and the satellite in space? Just like a flashlight through the rain, if you can't see the light, no rainguard's gonna help.
I thought you left? :lol

The Writer must still be a Time Warner Customer.:lol
I don't have much choice, I live in the country and have to have satellite or stick with broadcast stations. Directv is probably comparable to Dish network on the base packages (I think dish has a cheaper entry package), but directv's DVR is outstanding, and it is a Tivo-brand unit. The two tuner feature kicks ass; you can record on one channel & watch something else, or you can record on both tuners while you watch something you already recorded or a DVD. I initially had some problems with the older DVR that I initially received; directv's customer service was exemplary and when talking to technical support I was not on hold for more than 2 minutes and spoke with actual Americans. (They FedExed me a brand-new, top of the line unit for free). People I know who have dish network also were impressed by their service.
Large rainstorms will knock out your signal, but it is brief. When the Time warner cable went out in San Marcos, it was usually out for hours or days. Cable sucked in SM.

I live in an Apartment and cannot have DTV or Dish Network....I have not had any trouble with Time Warner.....I also have road runner cable which the sastellites cannot compete with price-wise.
My parents have DTV and it goes bonkers if a bird lands on it or unloads or something.
DTV is not the way to go IMHO.

They need to get their dish checked. That shouldn't happen. Our has only gone out twice in the last year and that was only for a couple minutes in a wind/rain/lightning storm.

My dad doesn't listen to me in that regard....he works at SWRI as an engineer and feels he knows all about it......he is one of those people who will buy somethiong and try to put it together, damage it and get made.....I will ask him if read the instructions......he will say no...I know what I am doing....he then will take it back saying it is defective......this just ticks me off

Check it...
I called Time Warner today to give them the news about the break up, and the bitch tried to negotiate with me so that I would keep the cable.
To bad so sad.
So if any of you still have time warner, call them up and threaten em.. they'll lower your rate.

I have directv, and Its ok, it has its pro's and con's
Pro's
HD box has a OTA converter, so you can watch all the local channels (I can't pickup 35 in high def, anyone else have the same problem??)
Great sports packages
Good Picture and Sound
Con's
Terrible customer service
Pay 10.99 a month for about 5 HD channels
You have to purchase all equiptment, it gets pricey too. (HD DVR will run you about 1000 bucks alone, and you still have to purchase service)
