no, Spurs still have the best league system ... so do not have a squad to run against elite teams

Hmm? This time last season the Spurs were 12-4 in the month of November. Beat OKC, almost beat Miami in the Pop-Gate scandal game. Spurs fans were optimistic about that, since the Spurs almost beat Miami with the Toros.... Not the occasion thus far. Spurs have not beaten good opponents..
People were starting threads last year saying the Spurs couldn't beat the good teams of the league. Saying the OKC win was a fluke cause we won off a buzzer beater.

The way some people talk about him they'd rather have RJ or Finley instead.
Why doesn't Pop tell Tony to stop helping on D and giving up 3s. If we can see it, surely he can.

I mean at the very least we could keep it competitive at home, getting blown out in San Antonio is fucking embarrassing. If we lost by four I might be able to shrug this off and just go, a game's a game, just a season game, but this shit is a cause for concern.

To be fair, I'm sure most Spurs fans would take a fluke win over a legit contender now.
First blowout of the year. Rest were competitive into the fourth. If the only losses on your docket are OKC, Houston (beat them once too albeit without Harden), Portland and Pacers, you're doing okay. Should have four wins to help the cliffjumpers get over it until we head to the west coast.

time to rebuild tbh, pops gimmick offense has been exposed and will only get us wins against scrub teams. this team won't even sniff the wcf without leonard taking a major role and blossoming in that role. pop ain't even trying to develop him tbh. i wouldnt mind he losses if it meant kawhi was actually getting better as a player. but as it stands, that isn't the case.

It's not cliffjumping to say the Spurs can't beat elite teams. It's fact right now. We lack the talent to sustain our offense for 48 minutes, at least now that Green and Leonard are worse versions from last year. Other teams have improved on defense and if they stop Tony, they will usually beat us because literally nobody can put the ball on the floor to score. We might get better in April, but the Spurs need to get better INDIVIDUALLY.
Being worried about this team in December is 100% cliff jumping, especially considering we have a top 3 record in the league. Everyone has looked mortal this year, same as any other year.
Pop doesn't give a shit about the regular season. He's a lot smarter about basketball than you are.

Incorrect... we beat Atlanta, Golden State and Denver, currently playoff teams
- Had to beat a 9-9 Atlanta Hawk team on a Duncan buzzer beater. (Took a 20 and 20 game from Duncan to win)
- Golden State didn't have Curry, and they still almost beat the Spurs. (Spurs only won by 2, imagine the game with Curry...)

Yep. I was very interested in Monte. If he was willing to take a concession to play for us, I was interested in him for these kinds of situations. I would have hoped that the Spurs could straighten out the rest of his game. Spurs just keep signing shitty system players that need the table set for them. You need at least two guys that can get their own consistently. Can rely on ball movement and system play against the elite teams. When your offense breaks down, you're going to need to be able to score for yourself sometimes.

Fans of the Spurs do not put up with mediocre play in here for the most part. FWIW they haven't been mediocre since 1996. The Cowboys have been mediocre/terrible since 1996. A lot of fans don't "put up with" Jerry's long term poor management. I refuse to give the Cowboys money for either tickets or merch.
I will go to a Spurs game in SA at least once a year (a long trip for me and family) because they do things the right way for the most part. They have earned that support over the last 17 years.
Going seven games in the NBA finals is a season where the team was a lot better than mediocre.

Ofcourse, but there's a long way from that to "wasted the MLE on Jackie Butler 2.0"... dude is making $1.75m... the MLE is over $5m...
Signing Ayres so early with a part of the MLE killed any flexibility the front office had in free agency. Before coming to SA, Ayres played less than a hundred games...averaging around 8 min/game. What the fuck did he do to deserve anything above the minimum? I'm just surprised that SA, a front office that's usually conservative with their budget, overpaid so much for someone with little to no talent.

Im tired of hearing this nonsense. Douglas played as well as Curry. Spurs would still have won. Hell, Curry may have had a bad game, with the Spurs winning by more.
It is not accurate to say Spurs cannot beat elite teams. It is accurate to say that they struggle with them, as we cannot sustain the defensive and offensive execution at the required high level.

Because it's enjoyable? Because there are probably less than 250 regular season games left of having the PRIVILEGE of watching one of the greatest players of all-time pick up a basketball and kick ass on the court? You're seriously pathetic. You only want to watch the team when they're on top of the world and drubbing other squads by 30. When did I ever say that? lol

Cry Havoc apparently loves getting blown out. What a true Spurs Fan:cry
And now you've resorted to popcorn gifs and putting words in my mouth because you can't refute anything I'm saying. The only difference is, you actually enjoy talking shit about your "favorite team".

You're "lowering expectations" based on two games. In December. How is that not the same thing?

No other team would keep Danny Green as their starter tbh.

I actually said that in kind of agreeing with you that maybe it was me, where I have my expectations to high.

Another loss to an elite team. Spurs are fool's gold.
ugh no, the spurs defense is officially overrated and only good against scrub teams
as is, the spurs just aren't an elite team anymore
this team is finished tbh
not buying it tbh, spurs won't even sniff the wcf without home court
we suck, tbh. inflated record by beatng scrub teams, tbh.
Gee, I dunno where I would have gotten the idea that you're talking shit. :wakeup

Why are you setting expectations based on completely meaningless regular season games?
Hey, remember last year in that ultra important game against Miami where Pop sat the starters? That was worth as much as this game was tonight.

not really, i always stick around even if they're getting shit on. what am i saying that is so wrong? just because i think the spurs are finished and need to rebuild doesn't mean im not a fan
In your eyes, the 2012-2013 season was a waste (your words - not mine). I assume that means you wasted your time watching them because they came up short IN THE FINALS. Guess what pal, this organization has been the best playing/best managed pro team for the last 17 years (since Tim Duncan came here). That's not just the NBA, that is the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL - all of them.......
I enjoyed watching the Spurs overachieve and almost win a championship last year. I did not waste my time following them. 28 or 29 NBA teams would trade places with the Spurs in a New York minute. It sounds like you are jumping ship and the season is barely underway and they are 2nd in the Western Conference. Will you show up when the Spurs are a truly bad team in 2 or 3 years- You probably aren't even old enough to remember a truly BAD Spurs team. There have frankly been very few bad teams in SA. I still go and watch them play when they win 20 games like in 1996.
You would make a good Laker or Heat fan frankly.
You, as a "Fan" should appreciate what we have here a little more than you do.

That wasn't the question, for starters. You asked where you were talking shit. I pointed it out. Deal with it.

I think you're missing the point. This game was seen as a measuring stick to see if the Spurs could still hang with an elite team. As of now, the Spurs have proven that they can't. Also losing to top tier teams exposes your teams flaws, so I for one think this game did mean something.

Hey! Remember when you said our team would never make it out of the second round of the playoffs last year?
Your "measuring sticks" are hilarious.

So you see my point. If Pop is willing to set a regular season game on fire, why would you think he's doing anything besides using tonight as a learning tool? He doesn't care what the final score is, really. We're 15-4 definitely going to be at least a top 3 seed in the West barring injury. Why play your cards now when you don't have to?

That said, gotta hand it to Indy. They've done a hell of a job emulating our system to bring in solid players who know their role.
Spurs Pacers would be a ridiculously awesome Finals, if for no other reason than for watching David Stern hang himself by game 3.
