177 yards, 1 TD, and 11 yards rushing just isn't going to cut it in the playoffs, so that's why GB will be at home next week, not playing any football. And I don't want to hear about good defenses, because we all seen what Luck and T.Y did just a day ago to a really good defense, and both QBs were at home. Rodgers has better weapons and a better running game.

I think we're all looking forward to that Indi V N.E game, I am at least (Aside from the Hawks VS Saints for obvious reasons). One game will be solely for entertainment purposes, Denver VS S.D just to see if Billy can ruin Manning's run again :lol. If there's any other team I like watching aside from the Hawks, it's SD, they have that "We're playing with house money" look about them. And no one is mentioning precisely how Rivers is playing (for obvious reasons :lol), just that he's a major part of the end result. Props to Phillip :toast

Top 5 defense in the Bayou, mixed in with that Juggernaut offense, so they should be considered highly dangerous going forward. And since they've removed the road monkey off their back, they could very well be the favorites in the NFC going forward tbh. I'm surprised they had that much trouble with the Eagles on Saturday. A win is a win. I'm sure this game will be a lot tougher VS N.O, as it's hard to beat good teams twice in a year. And not having K.J Wright to match up with Jimmy likely will be a huge problem. Physically, he matches up really well, we'll have to go another way. And, that N.O front did an excellent job last time around against the run, I expect more of the same.

I couldn't have asked for a better unfolding of the playoff picture in the NFC, aside from having SF lose. Not having to face both juggernaut defenses is a sweat wiping off the brow situation regardless. But, it's a pick your poison situation with the Saints. I just hope we can pull it out, and let the chips fall where they may thereafter. I personally would rather play Carolina if we make it past N.O because they have less offensive weapons than SF, and of course SF knows us like the back, well yeah. And additionally, Carolina hasn't been to Century Link in the past two seasons. Yet, we've been to their house each of the last two seasons with squeaker results.

I still think Indi V Seattle would be a great Superbowl, and Denver is the most dangerous due to those weapons, but this is why they play the games.

Pelicans78
01-05-2014, 10:55 PM
Hopefully Keenan Lewis is back against Seattle. His concussion prevented the Saints from routing the Eagles, not to mention Brees and Payton's play-calling in the first half.

If the Saints want to really be serious about winning next week, they have to run the ball alot more than they pass it. I think Ingram and Robinson can have alot of success which will take alot of pressure off the passing game, help avoid turnovers, control the clock and help the defense with field position. I think the Saints defense will be ready this time around and the front 4 is athletic enough to keep Wilson in the pocket just like they did with Cam and Kaep this season. However, the offense can't screw around by trying the throw the ball around against the Hawks pass defense. Its not gonna happen. Run the ball early and often.

I do think the blowout loss last month could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. It gives the team an idea of what they need to really do to have success in that loud stadium. Keep it simple for Brees with the play-calling and not give him too much responsibility with audibles and other pre-snap stuff. Run, run, and keep running. At least 35+ rushing attempts, otherwise Brees will make mistakes and put the defense constantly in a hole.

I would rather have the Saints face Carolina over the Niners even though they're good enough to win at San Fran because they can limit Kaep in the pocket.

Sorry, but that's just ridiculous. We also saw Rivers with 128 yards, 1 TD and 2 rushing yards and his team blew out his opponent. Not sure what Luck has to do with the GB-SF game. Indy's O line didn't crumble like a wafer. SF is a better defensive side than KC this year, especially in the second half this year. Luck was awesome but that was a shootout and still the 2nd biggest chokejob in history. Kaep saved the game with his running, which GB after 3 games STILL does not know how to contain...

You are right about Rodgers not looking like his normal self (even against CHI). I'm willing to give him a pass after a 2 month layoff though. Rodgers didn't lose this game.

Yeah the Chiefs defense doesn't compare to the Niners up to this point with the injuries they had plus dominating a soft schedule. I thought Rogers played well enough to win this game and he wasn't gonna throw for big numbers in this weather against that defense. In the end, the Packers defense couldn't limit an average QB at best who has vastly struggled against good defenses this season.

Yeah, that was an atrocious take on his part, but I'll give him a solid 4/10 troll attempt

Just think where some of these playoff teams would be had they lost their starting QBs at the beginning of the season...

Patriots: Fucked
49ers: 12-4
Colts: Fucked
Panthers: 10-6
Packers: Fucked
Seahawks: 10-6
Chargers: Fucked
Bengals: 13-3

On the flipside, if the Eagles hadn't lost their starting QB they'd be 5-11

Rivers only had to throw for 128 because another "average QB at best" imploded and turned over the ball three times. Not a real comparable tbh. If you don't turn the ball over, you don't have to put up huge numbers. To Luck's credit, he turned the ball over several times, and over came that issue by putting up monster numbers (Along with TY). Props to them.

And as several posters noted, and witnessed today, Mr. Rodgers holds onto the ball way longer than he should, and takes sacks. Luckily, he didn't lose that fumble, from holding the rock too long, or this game might have been out of reach from there on. As that was deep in GB territory. That's his only knock. He's fuckin Platinum otherwise. I could scroll back, but you all know who you are. So, we can't put that on the offensive line. Once he started to get rid of the ball quickly, that defense had to work. To his credit he did get rolling there for a while. No denying he's the best in the game. But today, too much rust from being out a month or so. And believe me, I wanted GB to win. GB's defense only giving up 23 points to me was a huge win.

Of course they're not comparable, neither is what happened in the KC-IND game, that was the point I was making. It's not like Rodgers turned it over either.

You can't simply look at Rodgers' stat line or the final score as an indictment of what happened during the game. This was never going to be a high scoring game. They were playing in -20 temperatures, with an greater emphasis on the running game. There were at least 2 INTs and a fumble that was goofed by the GB defense. They couldn't contain Kaep's running game, again. They allowed Davis and Crabtree to bust out of coverage countless times, again (see Week 1). SF didn't allow Nelson, Cobb and Jones to do the same. Rodgers sometimes held the ball too long as we all said, but it's also because no one was open down field. But he was never going to throw for 300 yards in this game, not with the defensive game plan SF had.

And SF didn't do themselves any favors with the red zone play calling, they probably put up 2 TDs rather than FGs if they stuck to the run game (that eventually won them the game). The bottom line is you mentioned Rodgers' stat line not being good enough, as if that was the reason they lost the game. It wasn't.

You guys hate CK so much :lol

The 49ers are going to the Finals again !
:tu and I hope so. that was a tough game, I figured we had a good chance but started to think we would lose it. You never know with Rodgers, he's like Manning, once he gets into a rhythm, they are scary.

Niners still have a lot of tough battles ahead but it's been a wild and good season. I'm also thoroughly enjoying people's bitterness towards Kapernick.

wow I didn't realize just how much San Francisco has held ownership over the Packers ever since they started to get serious about football again in recent years. 49ers have whipped their ass 4 games in a row now.

There were turnovers goofed by the SF defense as well. So it goes both ways. And of course, the conditions had a different effect on the game, especially comparatively to a game in the dome. And no, Rodgers didn't turn the ball over. But I think it's agreeable that simply not turning it over, isn't a sufficient condition for not losing a game for your team. Yes, the running game is always of importance, and especially in these conditions.

But lets be honest, Rodgers certainly played better in week one comparatively to this playoff game. No matter the situation, no matter the conditions, you need your main guys to take a game over, which Rodgers typically does. And it's not as if Rodgers isn't a mobile guy. He could have ran here and there to stretch that defense. But he rarely did. There was no offensive consistency. Quarter one was an absolute indication of this. 3 strait three and outs. Lacy was his normal self, all the WRs are there healthy pretty much, so that only leaves Rodgers. Which, conveniently, was a portion of the game where he was holding the rock a lot. And I think that inconsistency is an indication of him being off for too long. But him not being off for too long isn't an acceptable reason for the loss.

And the statement about play calling being a part of keeping them in the game, that's a part of any game. And you have to give your own defense credit for creating a turnover despite what play was called. They was a nice play by Williams tbh. I just think, and it's my opinion, that Rodgers was contained by his own rust today. There's no reason he should be held under 200 yards passing in any game, unless the wind/snow/rain is outrageous. It was cold, and there was no wind. In the post game presser Rodgers honestly said: "Personally, it's frustrating not to play your best game". And I agree with him, he wasn't remotely close to his best today.

Now, we can say that's the QB going out there and shouldering the blame like a leader is supposed to, or we can say it's a little bit of both. I side on the latter

What an interesting Wildcard weekend...I won all four games (A friendly win pick 'em with a friend...he'd probably still be a better prognosticator than Avante...). I stuck through the Chiefs game which was the one that seemed like I made a bad choice (N.O. vs Philly was the other one). Imagine getting 378 yards and 4tds; no picks from Alex Smith and losing your best player after 6 plays and still managing to blow a 28pt lead to Caveman Luck...shameful! :lol
