I was referring to darn near everything else

Point is.....regardless of coach/players the Raiders have sucked long and hard in the Eastern Time Zone. They wil be playing at 10am west coast time. Trust me, that's a big deal.

i'm aware. this year they're actually flying out early, on thursday, to try to get acclimated quicker

So you see there is something to this Time Zone thing. That other factors are involved than just who has the better team. In this "spot" the Raiders have historically struggled. Now add Rex Ryan vs a rookie QB at home....ouch!

teams in general aren't significantly worse traveling west to east than any other road game. the raiders have been terrible on the road, and that happens to include east coast games

'tis true! Such an awesome year! It'll be very difficult to repeat, but if there is a team built for the duration it is the champs.

At what point does it hit you that I don't just make shit up?

The table below displays the results, since 2005:

Game Time Zone

ATS Record

ATS Win Rate

Mountain
22-10
68.8%

Central
37-44
45.7%

Eastern
44-57
43.6%

Interestingly, ATS performance of Pacific Time Zone teams gets progressively worse as they travel further east. Based on these results, we can conclude that West Coast teams don’t meet expectations and therefore “play badly” when traveling to the East Coast.

"my advice to him started a long time ago, he's been sitting in NFL locker rooms and NFL meeting rooms for years now ever since he was 12 years old he was in there, he knows what he's doing and at this point no advice needs to be given. I called him the other night to talk to him about Rex and his defense and some of the things that Ive seen from him the last 6 or 7 times Ive played against him" and said Derek was already on top of it and had already broken down all the film. He knows that preparation is the key, he's ready to go.

Why totally ignore what studies showed about....all west coast teams on the east coast? From an historical perspective.

Yes it makes a difference for everyone not just the Raiders.

And the only teams in mountain time zone are broncos and cardinals and they havent been good most of the time since 2005

Well broncos were a little better than i thought. 3 13-3 seasons, 2 8-8 seasons, 1 9-7, 1 7-9 ,and 1 4-12

But the Cardinals had 4 5-11 seasons, 2 10-6, 2 8-8, 1 9-7

Weird to say it, but this was actually a good piece from bleacher report :lol. Was a critical piece about Carr's game. The kid certainly has a lot to learn, but I'm glad he's starting. As long as he isn't out there getting beat up any experience is good experience. Had he watched this game from the sidelines, he would be further behind in his development than he is at this moment, having faced 60 minutes of Rex. I just feel for him that we have the toughest schedule in the league and a bunch of stout defensive teams. As long as he stays upright and doesn't start getting defeated mentally, it'll pay off

as much as i hate the process of rebooting and starting over, this coaching staff pretty much needs to get canned. both coordinators as well as DA. they're coaching for their jobs at this point. if this shitfest continues and we start 0-4, i wouldn't be surprised if DA gets fired at that point (with the bye week looming) and Sparano becomes the interim HC.

i would start the offseason hunt by begging Gruden to come back. he loves Derek Carr, and he's a QB coach kind of guy, so the fit is there. the fans would take him back with open arms and he'd bring credibility. if that hire happens i'd kick the tires on wade phillips to run the defense if he's interested. he's a bad head coach, but he's had success as a coordinator. similar to crennel in that regard. gruden would presumably run the offense anyway, and i'd just promote Al Saunders back to offensive coordinator (he was the OC when hue jackson was our HC, and we had a good offense those days). he's still on the staff as a senior advisor.

pretty aware this forum doesn't care about the raiders, but just my 2 cents :lol

:lmao the ROAST of Dennis Allen... this is a question asked to him during a post-practice press conference yesterday

Reporter - How do you go about getting the answer when you as a coach and your other coaches have put in all the hours you have, and i'm sure that if you thought there was more you could do, you would. So you'd think you have that covered. Then it has to go down to if you like the players you have... so what's the answer? How do you go about finding that? Are we past the coaching point, where the coaching is the problem?

Allen - Ok here's what we gotta do. We gotta change the mindset

Reporter - Yeah but this is the third year. Hadn't you changed that the first year you came in here

:lmao this guy won't make it to the end of the season. if we start 0-4 they'll can him right then and there before the bye week

Who'd get interim duties?
the most natural candidate would be Tony Sparano. wouldn't be the first time our offensive line coach became an interim HC. i just hope they dont end up falling in love with him... these interim coach love-fests generally end poorly. we did it with tom cable, the chiefs did it with crennel

Pro Football Focus recap of the Raiders/Pats game. Mack was nearly invisible in week 1 but has really come along since. Also seems dumb that we signed Austin Howard from the Jets, one of the better young RT's around, and decided he should play guard. He hasn't been effective at all. And it's not like we have some stud RT that's preventing him from playing there. also i wouldn't be opposed to just cutting denarius moore. he flashes talent but i dont want him around. sucks because in his rookie year he was flashing serious WR1 potential

The Oakland Raiders traveled to Foxborough yesterday for the New England Patriots’ home opener. Each team struggled to move the ball, especially on the ground, and Tom Brady’s second quarter touchdown pass was the only time either team found the end zone.
Here are some notable performances:

Oakland Raiders – Performances of Note
Khalil Mack, LB: +6.2
Breakdown: Mack was excellent for the second week in a row, and gave Nate Solder trouble throughout the game. The rookie recorded four run stops, and added two hits on Brady on his way to a game-best +6.2 grade.
Signature Stat: Mack was especially dominant in the run game, earning a +5.8 grade.

Austin Howard, RG: -3.0
Breakdown: Oakland’s offense finished the game with a cumulative -9.1 run blocking grade, and Howard was the worst offender after earning a -2.7 in that department. Howard also allowed a hit and a hurry.
Signature Stat: The Raiders ran 11 times for just 28 yards between the right A and B gaps behind Howard.

Denarius Moore, WR: -2.4
Breakdown: Moore was targeted seven times and caught three passes for just 23 yards, including two drops. Moore’s 0.96 Yards per Route Run (https://www.profootballfocus.com/about/pff-signature-stats/#YardsPerRouteRun) for the game would rank second-worst among qualifying recievers so far in 2014.
Signature Play: Moore’s second dropped pass caromed off of Logan Ryan, right into the arms of DT Vince Wilfork for the game-sealing interception.

New England Patriots – Performances of Note
Dont’a Hightower, LB: +5.1
Breakdown: Hightower graded positively in all phases of defense (run defense, pass rushing and coverage) for the second week in a row, and currently leads all Patriots defenders with a +8.3 overall grade for the season. The Alabama product recorded four run stops, and had a hit and two hurries on 11 pass rush attempts.
Signature Stat: Hightower was at his best in pass coverage (+3.0), allowing 3 passes to be complete for -7 yards.

Nate Solder, LT: -3.3
Breakdown: Solder’s struggles continued yesterday, as he earned his third consecutive red-graded game. He had trouble with Khalil Mack throughout the game, and Solder’s overall grade now stands at -7.8 in 2014.
Signature Stat: Solder allowed three hits and a hurry on Tom Brady, earning a -2.5 pass blocking grade in the process.

Jerod Mayo, LB: +3.4
Breakdown: Mayo recorded four run stops, earning a team-best +2.4 run defense grade. Like Hightower, Mayo earned positive marks in all three areas defensively.
Signature Stat: Mayo recorded four QB hurries on just eight pass rushes.

PFF Game Ball
Khalil Mack gets the game ball in a losing effort, after posting the best game of his young career.

i don't even know what direction we're going to head in the offseason. coaching changes suck, and a lot of times new coaches want "their guy" and i would hate to waste yet another high draft pick on a QB. its a mess, but Allen was terrible and we weren't going to go anywhere with him. the coordinators will both get canned at season's end.

its not like they had terrific rosters to work with, but there was no structure, bad playcalling, no creativity. they weren't putting guys in positions to succeed. when hue was the coach, darrius heyward bey was actually producing like an NFL receiver and McFadden looked elite :lol

Darrell Bevell is getting buzz as a head coaching candidate next season... the only thing is, i doubt any prominent names are going to want to suicide their careers with the raiders :lol

the only hope is the return of the chosen one

my fairy tale not going to happen pipe dream, fwiw

GM: Reggie McKenzie gets fired and they bring in Scot McLoughan

HC: Return of Chucky. He would probably be micromanaging the offense so in this scenario I don't really care about the offensive coordinator.

DC: Wade Phillips. not a good track record as a head coach, but he's been one of the better coordinators around. he whipped up Houston's defense in one offseason, from one of the worst in NFL history to one of the best in the NFL

spurraider21
09-29-2014, 11:40 PM
It's now being reported that Tony Sparano will NOT be named interim coach. That's weird. He's the only guy we have on staff with HC experience. The next logical guess is OC Greg Olson. Both coordinators are going to get fired at season's end if I'm a betting man.

It's also being said that McKenzie's job isn't very secure either. Apparently Mark Davis fired DA and McKenzie was vouching for him to keep his job. Seems he is at odds with the owner, not a good sign, especially when his (short) track record has been pretty terrible.

You don't back any team with the road record the Raiders have especially east of the Miss River. They have done nothing to deserve any respect in that 'spot' at all. You either back the Dolphins are far far better road team or lay off the game.

The Dolphins on the road the last two seasons....6-10, Raiders...2-14.

:lol rotoworld's in-house analysis is such a joke

Derek Carr completed 18-of-34 throws for 283 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception in the Raiders' Week 6 loss to San Diego.

The Raiders clearly game planned to attack the Chargers' defense with vertical passes. Carr got the Raiders off to a hot start, finding Andre Holmes for a 77-yard touchdown on Oakland's opening possession. The second-round rookie capped another first-half drive with a six-yard TD pass to James Jones. Carr's third TD was good to Brice Butler on a catch-and-run from 47 yards out. Showing off his impressive athleticism and arm-strength combination, Carr kept Oakland in Sunday's game for much longer than most people expected. After a series of powerful fourth-quarter runs by Darren McFadden, Carr threw his fourth TD to Holmes, again, from six yards out. Carr crumbled when it mattered most, however, throwing into double coverage and getting picked by Bolts rookie CB Jason Verrett to seal San Diego's win. The Raiders will host the Cardinals next.

to answer ur question, Holden_Caulfield (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=23326), this was posted over on a raiders board. i dont have a PFF subscription to verify but i doubt somebody would just make it up. i generally dont care for PFF... but he's been more "solid" than gamebreaking so far. hopefully some big plays will come soon, he seems close.

Five games into the season, Mack is rated by Pro Football Focus as the top run stopping linebacker in the NFL. They give him a +10.2 run defense grade which is the best grade for all linebackers, including 3-4 OLB, 4-3 OLB, and ILB.

Mack's pass rushing grade is +2.2 and an overall grade of +13.7. That's the fifth best overall grade for any linebacker position in the league. Those ahead of him are Von Miller (+17.5), Terrell Suggs (+16.6), Justin Houston (+15.1), and Pernell McPhee (+13.8).

I watched the play several times to see what went wrong. There were only three routes on the play. One guy ran a short hitch and was doubled. Two guys ran fly routes, jones on the right and butler on the left. There was safety help over jones and butler had one on one. 6'3 receiver against a 5'10 corner. Verrett just made a great play. Ball hit butlers hands first but verrett ripped it clean.

He he had a good matchup and gave the receiver a shot instead of throwing it away. Both he and sparano said after the game it was the right read and just didn't work out.

not to mention the most cap room in the league. the raiders aren't exactly an attractive landing spot, but i think if they brought in a guy like Gruden (or Harbaugh, or somebody of that manner) it would change the perspective a bit

i dont think Gurley will fall to the second, but even then i think we need to draft D-Line, linebacker, secondary ahead of anything.

Raiders moving to LA in 2015 or 2016

Got some really tough news for us Bay Area fans. I have a relative who is in the know with a development group in LA, and Mark Davis is in the process of finalizing an agreement that is palatable to the NFL and the Raiders both to get a deal done in LA and have the Raiders playing in the Rose Bowl as soon as next year while the stadium is built. This is massively painful for me being born and raised in Oakland. Not sure what to think. This is not rumor. I'd expect this to hit the local outlets soon. I am pretty damn gutted right now. Will post more if I get it. I don't have any sort of track record of posting BS, so trust me when I say this came from a source involved with the situation.

- so he took "dungy's team" to the SB... but do people ever say Callahan took "gruden's team" to the SB? its a weird double standard
- the bucs had the worst cap situation in the NFL and they traded 2 firsts AND 2 seconds to get gruden... so they really had nowhere to go but down

i wouldn't bet on him leaving either, and retread coaches rarely work anyway. the main reason i'd advocate him coming over is because he'd actually be able to assemble a good coaching staff. good coordinators won't agree to work under a mediocre, unproven coach, but they'd do so for gruden. it would also make us slightly more attractive to free agents

Constantly playing from behind, constantly in third and long and the kid is pretty cool as far as Carr goes.

Yep, another draft and a few stud free agent signings and the retirement of Manning, there is a light in the tunnel.

the raiders o-line has been very strong in pass protection this year. the run game is a different story, although McFadden has been having some success in recent weeks. Donald Penn has actually had a better season than Veldheer :lol and the rookie LG has stepped right in and played well. If anything RG is our weak spot right now. We signed Austin Howard who had been a good RT for the Jets and decided to stick him at guard to emphasize his run blocking, but it has played out poorly. I suspect next season they'll kick him back to RT where he has actually had NFL success and find somebody to plug in at RG.

I don't think having a hole at RG should prevent a team from signing a difference making wideout for their QB

I think they'll break through. They've been in all their games recently, were within 1 possession in the 4tg for their past 4 games (San Diego, Arizona, Cleveland, Seattle). The schedule isn't easy but they've been improving

they'll probably still end up with the #1 overall but this isn't the worst raiders team I've seen

Next 8 games won't be easy tho, only St Louis is sub .500 and they will play them at home. For the rest Denver twice, chargers, buffalo... they have probably a shot against 49ers, kansas city (twice). 0-16 is not out of reach tbh

Yeah the schedule is rough, I think Denver will blow us out both times. I just think it's a numbers game. It's hard to be right in the thick of so many games and not get lucky once. We need the run game to do something. Dead last in the league, and Carr ends up throwing 40+ passes a week. Not a good gameplan when you have a rookie QB and a mediocre receiving core.

The silver lining is most of our positive players have been young guys. The only vets that are really playin well are Charles Woodson and Donald Penn (left tackle). Woodson is playing too well to retire, hope he reups

:bobo tbh i don't even care about the notoriety of going winless, the raiders have been a laughingstock for so long that nothing like that would bother me. plus it would ensure the #1 overall pick, and with Mariota's recent Heisman-type performance, we might be able to get a trade partner in the draft. but i want to see them get at least 2-3 wins the rest of the way just to have some sort of positive momentum to build on for next season, and to give the young guys like Carr a taste of success

The most important stat when it comes to running backs is their average per carry. Sure we take into consideration line thumpers and multi purpose guys. Anyway....this Murry kid averaged...5.7, 5.6 and 5.6 his last three years of college (played little as a frosh). And as we see he has that size with speed combo.

I think it's safe to say he's a huge upgrade over Darren "Tinker Bell" McFadden and an aging MJD.

Raiders aren't good at this tanking stuff. Now they are tied with four other teams.

spurraider21
12-08-2014, 01:18 AM
they're not trying to tank. they're just not a great football team. i actually think they'd be better served winning out than losing out (obviously they wont win out, still play denver).

even with Carr and Mack looking like cornerstones, right now there is still a "stink" on the raiders organization. coaches aren't lining up to come here, free agents actively avoid them. its a sense of "if i go there, i'll waste my prime and kill my career." even if we lose out and get the #1 pick, that's not going to change the perspective. FA's will see a 2-14 team that is looking for a new coach and will try to avoid it.

but if we win some more games to close the year, we might have the image of an up and coming team with a franchise QB in place. i do think momentum can carry over from the end of a season too.

don't get me wrong, the idea of getting a top pick is great... i think Leonard Williams would be a picture perfect fit for our team, and i'd be thrilled if we traded back a Mariota pick, but thats a consolation prize, not something any team should be gunning for, imo
