The Cleveland Browns (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/cle/cleveland-browns) had expressed some interest in Schaub, who could have been reunited with former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. But the Raiders wanted Schaub even more, according to a source.

i dont think we're ever gna trade a pick for a stopgap after the Flynn disaster. reggie would rather sign Freeman than deal for Schaub
:lol Damn - this is even worse than his "Allen bailed out LeBron" take....

A) I've been vocal that I'm for the raiders picking up schaub
b) not a fan of giving a draft pick, but I can live with a late pick, provided its 6th or 7th
c) I post on that board as well and a lot of them are just liked rumpped and the rest are cliff divers
d) clipper nation is still salty, even though that ray Allen take is specific to just the final 60 seconds of regulation of game 6,

I wouldn't give the Texans Al Davis's rotting carcass for Mattie Schaub. Immobile, soft, and a weak arm is what you're getting these days from Schaub.

According to the ESPN article he's making like $10 million next year and counts $14 mill against the cap too

Rick Smith definitely secured his job for another year. Props to him big time for pulling this off. There's no way in hell you could have convinced me at the end of the season that another team would take Schaub in a trade for anything.

He made a good trade, but he still needs to be on the hook for giving out that contract in the first place, capfucking us in different signings as well, along with the Ed Reed fiasco. Drafting players in the 3rd round that end up being cut. etc.

He's been a mixed bag altogether. There has been those negative things but he also got us Manning and Joseph. Perhaps this move is a step in the right direction for him. I'm willing to give him a year with BOB to see if he starts churning out more good than bad. This Schaub trade is a huge step in that direction.

He better nail it in this draft.

Mercilus
Reed
Keshawn Martin (picked over TY Hilton)
Shiloh Keo
Earl Mitchell
Daryl Sharpton
Lestar Jean
Posey
Mccain
Carmichael
Trevardo Williams
Sam Montgomery
James Casey
Randy Bullock
Derek Newton
Brandon Harris

He better nail it with this draft

Some of those guys panned out pretty well. Casey got paid and so did Earl Mitchell...and the jury is still out on Mercilus and Reed.

I'm not saying he's the best at all, but there are much, much worse GM's out there.

I'm sorry spurraider21, but this is exactly what I was thinking. And if the contract is what AaronY says it is, it makes it a little worse. Aside from last year though, he had a nice group of seasons when he was healthy. I wouldn't pay 10 million for him though, that's a little outrageous.

The Lisfranc injury has completely destroyed what little mobility he had and he can't get anything on his throws anymore...hence the balls getting there late and all the pick sixes.

All the money after this year is non-guaranteed so it's not that bad. This is strictly a move to get Oakland above the cap floor. Anything extra that comes with it just gravy for them.

Damn this means David Caldwell performed grand Larceny on the 9ners!:lol 6th round pick for Blame Gabbert one the worst busts in history. At least Shaub won a playoff game. :lmao

The one thing though is that the 49ers are hoping to fix a young bust. The Raiders believe they just got Rich Gannon 2.0 :rollin

This. Even after this trade I believe they have something in the neighborhood of 20 mil. I didn't want to give a pick, but I've been advocating a schaub pickup for some time now

I like the deal. Draft a QB to back him up for a year or two to get experience. We don't know about Schaub... he was elite a couple years ago.. he could always come back and do something. They just need weapons.

crofl Schaub was never elite. Ultimate system QB.

when you let your young left tackle go and trade in 10+ M of shaub, just so you can go above the cap floor, you know you're doing it wrong..

notice everyone in the AFC West likes to poach QBs from other teams? only Philip Rivers was drafted by the Chargers.

the "restructure" is basically a paycut :lol. schaub got fleeced. awesome deal by the raiders. they guaranteed his entire 2014 salary, but its not like they were going to cut him this year anyway

Dennis Allen on Pick Six Schaub:

-Q: How focused are you on matching up against the good QBs in your division?

-ALLEN: We have a quarterback now that’s on par with the quarterbacks in this division.

:lmao Is everyone in this franchise delusional? Schaub on par with regular-season Fivehead or Rivers? Hell, I'm not even sure I'd take him over Alice Smith!
