The Cleveland Browns had expressed some interest in Schaub, who could have been reunited with former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. But the Raiders wanted Schaub even more, according to a source.
For a pick too??? Be right back, I gotta go rub one out.

Raider fans love the trade
Damn - this is even worse than his "Allen bailed out LeBron" take....
A) I've been vocal that I'm for the raiders picking up schaub
b) not a fan of giving a draft pick, but I can live with a late pick, provided its 6th or 7th
c) I post on that board as well and a lot of them are just liked rumpped and the rest are cliff divers
d) clipper nation is still salty, even though that ray Allen take is specific to just the final 60 seconds of regulation of game 6,
I wouldn't give the Texans Al Davis's rotting carcass for Mattie Schaub. Immobile, soft, and a weak arm is what you're getting these days from Schaub.
According to the ESPN article he's making like $10 million next year and counts $14 mill against the cap too
Rick Smith definitely secured his job for another year. Props to him big time for pulling this off. There's no way in you could have convinced me at the end of the season that another team would take Schaub in a trade for anything.
He made a good trade, but he still needs to be on the hook for giving out that contract in the first place, cap ing us in different signings as well, along with the Ed Reed fiasco. Drafting players in the 3rd round that end up being cut. etc.
He's been a mixed bag altogether. There has been those negative things but he also got us Manning and Joseph. Perhaps this move is a step in the right direction for him. I'm willing to give him a year with BOB to see if he starts churning out more good than bad. This Schaub trade is a huge step in that direction.
He better nail it in this draft.
Mercilus
Reed
Keshawn Martin (picked over TY Hilton)
Shiloh Keo
Earl Mitc
Daryl Sharpton
Lestar Jean
Posey
Mccain
Carmichael
Trevardo Williams
Sam Montgomery
James Casey
Randy Bullock
Derek Newton
Brandon Harris
He better nail it with this draft
Some of those guys panned out pretty well. Casey got paid and so did Earl Mitc ...and the jury is still out on Mercilus and Reed.
I'm not saying he's the best at all, but there are much, much worse GM's out there.
"I have no idea what I'm doing here"
I'm sorry spurraider21, but this is exactly what I was thinking. And if the contract is what AaronY says it is, it makes it a little worse. Aside from last year though, he had a nice group of seasons when he was healthy. I wouldn't pay 10 million for him though, that's a little outrageous.
The Lisfranc injury has completely destroyed what little mobility he had and he can't get anything on his throws anymore...hence the balls getting there late and all the pick sixes.
All the money after this year is non-guaranteed so it's not that bad. This is strictly a move to get Oakland above the cap floor. Anything extra that comes with it just gravy for them.
Damn this means David Caldwell performed grand Larceny on the 9ners!6th round pick for Blame Gabbert one the worst busts in history. At least Shaub won a playoff game.
