One likely candidate for Jazz coaching job, sources tell Yahoo: Spurs assistant Jim Boylen. He has a strong history with GM Dennis Lindsey.

Will this affect our players' focus and mindset going forward in the playoffs? How will we get by OKC if our main assistant coach is busy thinking about job offers? This doesn't bode well for us IMO.

Any human being on the planet would be an upgrade over Tyrone Corbin, other than maybe Hoops Czar and hater, tbh..

Speaking of Udoka, has Nia Long ever been to a Spurs' game?

:lol If he does take it, his biggest impact to the Spurs will be vouching for Jeff Ayres and forgetting Leonard existed on the roster.

Over/under on number of games it takes for him to inadvertently drop a key player from his rotation?

while i'd be glad if boylen left, our assistant coach/heir to pop is in a terrible spot tbh. losing bud AND brett brown in the same offseason really hurt. and LOL to bringing PJ back

And failing to get Granger to want to play for us despite having had history with him.

Boylen seems like an idiot. Good riddance. I would rather Pop cut him and we just try out d-league assistant coaches on 10 day contracts.

Avery will never be in an authority position on the Spurs as long as Duncan is on the team.

I want nothing to do with Avery Johnson on our bench. He's a martinet, and inevitably alienates his teams. He learned almost nothing from Pop about respect and dialogue with your players.

I think Pop and Avery would get along fine. No one else on the team would be able to stand him, though.

He's a solid coach for developing bigs (not sure how the hell Ayers happened). He'd be a great coach for a few years before they either make a jump to contention status (doubtful) or blow it up for another rebuild (likely).

I think that would be great one day. Matty is a smart dude and it would be great to keep him in some capacity after his playing days are over.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO

Duncan cannot abide Avery and I don't blame him. Avery is a preacher/training sergeant combo who yells at people and tells them how Gawd wants them to play, etc. etc. He is kind of the anti-Tim, in fact.

He could work with Robinson because Robinson was also a preacher-type (though more soft spoken) and didn't mind the militaristic screaming of Avery.

If Avery comes back here (please no) the team will disintegrate. I think that Buford and Pop know that and there is no chance of it happening.

Avery was pretty much an asshole as a team mate. He used to tell David that God should take away his gifts, because he didn't maximize them. That sort of thing. Fighting with Rose in the showers. They had to keep a lid on LOTS of stuff. He wasn't so much the Little General as the Little Dictator.

For those calling on Bonner to be assistant coach...what did the Spurs franchise ever do to you? It's pure evil to do that. Let the fucker rot in hell in the offseason for fuck's sake, in the name of humanity.

Yeah why have a very high iq basketball mind as an assistant.

Avery Johnson and PJ Carlisemo are dead ends. both have been pretty poor head coaches

I'd take Nate McMillan over either, and that's not saying much

I don't think PJ is that bad actually. I think he's definitely solid as an assistant. And I don't think Brooklyn should've fired him last season tbh.

Decks being cleared for Manu to get into coaching after one more final season.. IMO :)

But remarkable how the Spurs tree grows further & further in the league.

Brett Brown, Coach Bud, Jacques Vaughn and now Boylen in just 2 years apart from many more already.

He's got all the money he will ever need, and has small children that he probably wants to spend time with. Coaches are road warriors. He's probably done with that, on an NBA level. Wouldn't shock me if someday he took the Argentina NT gig.

PJ wasn't a bad assistant. He is a very good defensive coach and I would take him over alot available assistant coaches out there. As a HC, no I wouldn't PJ coaching the Spurs, but as an Assistant, he devised alot great defensive schemes during his tenure with the Spurs.

Hm...and if Jacques Vaughn is let go by Magic, would he comeback to San Antonio?

That's not happening, at least this offseason. This season was a rebuilding season for the Magic. That's why they unloaded Big Baby. I wouldn't be surprise if the Magic draft Randle to pair with Vucevic. Those two would make a great front court for the Magic.

Same with Brett Brown and Philly. They were beating teams quite handily at the start of the season and it seem like the Philly brass told Brown to purposely lose. I believe half their games won were in the first 15 games of the season. B/c they started to tank hard and it was very obvious.
Nikola Vucevic

Yes, which makes it kind of a weird fit for the Salt Lake media market/fan base. I doubt Lindsey cares much about that, but it will be mostly what people are talking about if he gets hired.

That said, people might care about his recent "Spurs pedigree" more than his history with the University of Utah.

People here in Utah are pretty pissed that he is even being considered. Some say they won't buy season tickets according to the radio this morning.
