I'm thinking it'll be the biggest blow out of this series and possibly these playoffs thus far. Spurs by 29. Big four sit out the entire 4th.

Expecting a letdown. Our guys are not going to hit shots with the same efficiency of the last 3 games. Stott's mentioned that Batum will start on Parker, that should bother TP a bit enough to get him out of rhythm imo.

The Blazers meanwhile will shoot out of the gym, they're due for a game.

Portland will get some shots to go down tonight. They should be loose with the nothing to lose attitude. Spurs will keep it within striking distance though and take over down the stretch to sweep.

Shuts him down, no. But I bet he begins a little slower because of Batum, and Tony goes more into pass mode. (A final line closer to Game 2 with 16 points and 10 assists). I see this being the closest game, maybe even with Portland having a lead into the the third quarter, with the Spurs depth allowing them to close it out in the fourth. Something like 106 to 100.

But, really, who knows? :lol

This. If Parker wants to be mentioned among the top 10 players in NBA, he's got to adjust.
Top 10, especially top 3 (as another thread suggested) don't choke off 3 #1 seeds in a row.

If Batum is put on Parker it would just allow another Spur to go off even more. The only decent perimeter defenders for Portland are Batum/Matthews. They have way too many holes defensively to overcome what SA are doing.

I think Ginobili is due for a solid game as his offense has been MIA this series.

I want us to win tonight but I seems to me that the Spurs players kind of don't expect it.

The stats from Saturday night's game were much much much closer than any of the other games.

If we win tonight (which I hope) I think it will be very close.

I would not be surprised if we slip tonight and finish it at home on Wednesday.

“You don’t want to just give in,” Lillard said. “We’ve had such a great season and we’ve worked so hard to be in this position and you don’t want to just say, ‘All right, nobody’s ever done it.’ Because it’s not impossible. If we cancel ourselves out in that way, then we have no chance. So I think you’ve got to look at it as trying to be the first more than anything else.

“Right now, they’re the better team. That doesn’t mean we can’t beat them.”

I really like the players on this team, they are really good players but they are not jerks in any way. That being said, it's time to send them on vacation. Go Spurs

I expect the Spurs to stay focused and finish this tonight. Batum on Parker might not be quite the move that the Blazers expect. Good speed and lanky, but both know each other pretty well. I think Parker knows what he has to do deal with Batum. At any rate, this is about the last adjustment they can make on Parker short of double teaming him.

I've worried a little bit about this as well, but in the long run, I've heard Spurs players say during the post game interviews, that any extra rest would be beneficial. I can def see a little bit of a lull in the guys after all the rest, but I don't think it'll cost them a game.

It's hit or miss with the long lay offs. We've had success coming off of sweeps in recent years, however. In 2012 we won the first game of our series coming off of sweeps all three times and went 2-0 last year (game 1 of gsw series and I think we won game one of the finals)

TE
05-12-2014, 04:34 PM
The layoff will be bad for about a quarter or even a half. I still take that over fatigue. The only way this team gets back to last year's form is if we see Game 3 Tony Parker for the rest of the playoffs. How does that happen? Rest...although I'm not sure if Tony is getting rest with fatherhood...

DesignatedT
05-12-2014, 04:41 PM
Exactly. Whatever comes with rest is still better than the Spurs wearing down... and we wear down quicker than anyone else so lets end it.

Plus, historically the Spurs have rebounded pretty well after long layoffs in the playoffs.

It has to be a close game, right?

I mean I picked the Spurs in 6 before the series but I wouldn't have been surprised if it was Spurs in 5. But even my most homerific self could have predicted a possible sweep, let alone complete domination through 3 games.

Sure it was the regular season, but the Blazers still posed matchup concerns and players that theoretically could have given the Spurs problems....

For the series to play it out as it has so far, is just really surprising tbh. If the Spurs end up dominating Game 4, this would go down as the most surprising series since probably the 2010 Suns sweep IMO.....

http://www.nba.com/spurs/sites/spurs/files/imagecache/image_gallery_default/melissa.JPG

After Game 2, all the Blazers talked about was going back to the comforts of home: their home arena and home crowd and home intensity. They apparently forgot that the Spurs won 30 road games this season. San Antonio rolled into Portland like gangbusters and quickly proved that there was no solace to be found there with another dynamite first half.

At this point, the Blazers are playing for posterity's sake. They will try to come out with a wild performance tonight...for their fans, if not for themselves. They will try to defy the odds and send this back to San Antonio and live to fight another day. But in the back of their minds, they are already planning their vacations.

The Spurs needs to tap into some more of that killer instinct and step on the throat. A win tonight earns a few valuable days of rest and the confidence that comes with a series sweep. A loss means more intense minutes, more risk of injury, and introduces a minuscule element of doubt into the equation that is unnecessary.

Take care of business tonight, and get ready for a 3rd straight trip to the Western Conference Finals.

5.

They've already tried it, he doesnt recover well on pick and rolls and Parker still got his.

The Blazers had shots fall in game 3. They played defense as well as they could. The Spurs didnt play well, too many turnovers, Ginobili shot badly, Belinelli didnt get alot of second half shots. That said, the Spurs toyed with them againa nd the game in all realities was never close after the first quarter.

The Blazers have lead for 33 seconds in 3 games. If the Spurs lead all of tonight, and win going away, this will be a series that will be looked at posthumously as one of just utter domination.

I hope the Spurs come out tonight smelling blood. So far this series, there seems that feeling.

Hoping Manu shoots better this game. The Spurs' dominance so far has really overshadowed a meh performance so far from Ginobil, especially after a great 1st round.

Maybe he turns it on against better competition and him getting to the FT line a lot last game was good but shooting 28% for a series is just inexcusable tbh.

Mo Williams out per Stotts. Also, Batum will start on Parker. Let's see how he handles that - he by far shot his worst % with Batum guarding him with regards to getting to the rim. That's what has killed POR - they have tried to prevent that drive to the rim by giving him the mid range and he's not only hitting the mid range, but still getting to the rim.

Even though Batum caused Parker to miss more than everyone else, TP was still able to get to the rim a healthy amount even against Batum which is encouraging.

I don't think it's POR defense causing him to miss - TP is finishing very well against those same defenders. I think Manu is a little worn out from such a heavy load in the Mavs series. Not to the point where he's done, but he is not getting quite the lift he was. He's still getting there, but has been unusually rushed and off balance. Game one he drove too far and got pinned under the rim. Game two he seemed to pull up a little too short and had some awkward runners. I think he's fine and should finish a bit better today IMO.
