Have to give it to Phil though. He's penny pinching everyone these days. He already implied or assumed Melo will take a pay cut so we'll see how that one goes.
Kerr isn't a huge loss, so is Melo.

McHale achieved considerable success in Houston (albeit not making the 2nd round, they're playing an attractive style of game at least) so they can hope for the same in Golden State tbh.

Mark Jackson sucked badly. That was independent of this decision. He sucks, he had to go. People who are preachers that cheat on their wife with a hooker are obviously poor decision makers and beyond annoying.
Having said that, that is a ridiculous contract for a first time coach no matter how much potential. Lot's of pressure with that contract now.
I just find it hilarious the silent racism creeping out that no one talks about. Magic Johnson openly celebrating Coach Dantoni's firing - I have never seen anything like that. Now Jalen Rose salty as hell over Kerr getting Warriors gig and taking strange shots at Kerr. Magic loves a white coach getting fired and Rose mad a white coach gets hired. Interesting.

Everybody got excited about Kerr when Phil Jackson showed interest,,,,everyone saying Kerr learned under Phil Jackson and Pop and therefore a prodigy unlike all others,,,but I beg to differ,,,,I go for Robert Horry right now if I'm Phil Jackson. Arguably the most clutch player with the game on the line in NBA history, 7 rings, learned under Tomjanovich, Phil Jackson, and Pop,,,,played with Hakeem, Shaq, Kobe, and Duncan. His pedigree is much better than Kerr's if youre looking for an unproven coach to invest in but I wouldn't put it past PJ to go full on for Ollie to screw the Lakers and open the door for Durant to New York.

I think that's a reach. Magic doesn't care about D'Antoni and the sad state affairs of the Lakers. He's just fronting and echoing a popular opinion in L.A. to appease Laker fans. He would probably tweet the same if the coach was Mike Woodson.

Doesn't have to be all about race. A lot of people white ones are upset that Kerr like Jackson before him, bypassed the process with no assistant coaching. I agree racism and reverse (stupid word) exists but hate the need to draw racial lines. Jackson was not great but with two injured bigs he pushed Clips to 7.

Cool - if a white guy celebrated Mark Jackson's ousting like Magic did, I'm sure things would be said. I am willing to bet Jalen and Mark Jackson are friends too. It's an incredible reach by Jalen Rose, why else would he care about this comment:
"Tor is the East's version of GS. Unreal fan support regardless of team success. This scene outside the arena is amazing."

Only one person in this thread has given props to Kerr, this was a great decision. A nice young nucleus, a great fan base, a nice contract and a decent cap situation. He really has no excuse, but he could just roll the team out there like preacher man and make the playoffs every year. I do think he will provide some structure, how that will come into play is obviously yet to be seen, but in theory it should be a step up over the park ball that preacher man encouraged. Will it be great caliber coaching? Probably not. But an improvement nonetheless

Also Jalen is an idiot I think Simmons chose him for his candor not talent. His corny singing and catch phrases are shitty. Next time u tweet him relay that for me. Quit trying so hard to be hip

Evidently all you need is to be a former player, well spoken and WHITE to get owners to think you know what youre doing.
This is the same guy who hired Terry fucking Porter as his own head coach (worst coach Ive ever seen). This is the guy who traded Shawn Marion for the corpse of Shaq. This is the same guy who urged Mike D'Antoni to "throw it into Amare in the post more often".
But kudos to him. 25 million bucks. Thats probably more than he made as a player.

Kerr has studied analytics in basketball the past few years, which immediately makes him an upgrade over most of the coaches in the league, tbh..
Mark Jackson was one of the 5 worst coaches in the league..he took a team full of passers/shooters and turned them into the 4th most ISO-reliant teams in the entire league..not to mention alienating players that weren't ignorant Christians..

I like Kerr, but handing a guy who has never spent a second on an NBA coaching bench a 5 year contract is borderline retarded. I know that's not politically correct to say, but that's how stupid it is.
Analytics couldn't save Morey and his Rockets from Portland though :lol
Exactly.
And analytics say that coaching doesn't really matter and you could pretty much do away with the midrange game. Look how both those principles ended up working for us. There is no way you could use numbers to portray the entire context, how defenses switch, how players play with more intensity, how coaches instill discipline into their players...I just can't stand those fucking statards.

Rockets have arguably the worst coach in the NBA and their star player is arguably the biggest choker in the league today, tbh..
The NBA is diverting from the isolation brand of basketball..there were 6 teams that were far ahead of the pack in isolation-oriented offense in 2013-14: New Orleans, Golden State, New York, OKC, Houston and Brooklyn..
Two of those coaches have already been fired and Scott Brooks will be fired if OKC doesn't make the Finals..Monty Williams is one of the shittiest coaches in the league, but ownership won't let him go until his contract is up..
Kidd's job is safe, since he's a rookie coach..
McHale is the only other "safe" coach, I assume it's because their front office is afraid of player reaction to his potential dismissal..
