View Full Version : What's Kawhi's condition, mentally?
No troll, just wondering.
He seems really socially awkward, or maybe he's a little slow. I can't tell. Any guesses?

could have some bit of autism. perhaps not. my brother has it and I see some similarities, but I'm no neurologist. Their brains tend to focus like mofos on something, but block out everything else a lot of the times, so they seem detached. even when the other players are bored with the game and chatting, he's still observing and studying. this is also why they can be savants or incredible at certain things, because they focus at a level that is not possible to your average person.
He's unique. Not just his hand size and length, but his workouts and practice seem beyond the other guys, and this team is full of hard workers.
Why does there have to be something wrong with him? Dude doesn't like to talk.Tons of guys don't like to talk, but they doesn't come off the way Kawhi does. It's not an insult, I just think he's an awkward individual.

Dad died a young age so chances are it effected him majorly and he is a bit socially awkward because of it?

I Wouldn't say he's awkward he's just a silent individual. Nothing wrong with that really, it's not causing any problems for the team obviously

I was thinking this too. It was an unexpected death too. Couldve been very traumatic.

I think we are used to seeing young players open there mouths and a bunch of crap come out so when Kawhi doesn't say much we all think something is wrong with him. He's just mature for his age, takes his responsibility very seriously and doesn't have a lot to say.

It's not that at all. The Spurs aren't a flashy team, and don't celebrate after every dunk and 3 pointer. I love that about this team. I'm referring to his general demeanor and mannerisms.

It seems like he pushes the quiet/stoic image on and off the court because occasionally you'll see him "forget" that he's supposed to be quiet and emotionless. It's quite genius, actually.

The thing about psychiatric disorders is that they are merely rough attempts to label very complex phenomena. There are millions of people who are incorrectly diagnosed, and there are millions of people walking around with debilitating disorders who go undiagnosed. It's still a very imprecise science, so any diagnosis should be interpreted with caution.
With that said, if he were to be tested, he might qualify for Asperger's syndrome. However, if the symptoms don't interfere with his daily life, most psychiatrists are hesitant to diagnose. He could also have social anxiety (aka social phobia), or he could just be highly introverted.
There is no evidence whatsoever that he is "mentally slow" so I have no idea where you got that.

I don't really think that would affect him a whole lot. It may play a part in his work ethic and stuff like that but I don't think it really changes someone's personality a whole lot by the time they are that age(he was 16). I'm probably more quiet than Kawhi, but my father dying when I was 14 isn't the cause- I have always been that way. I could be wrong because dealing with death does affect people differently though.

I was reaching with the slow part, but social anxiety is what I mostly assumed.
He went to a packed club with Marco and Danny after the game. Doesn't really scream social anxiety.

He's in the NBA, so he's going to be in social settings by default. It doesn't mean it's natural for him.

So someone with social anxiety would voluntarily go to a loud, packed club? Tell me more, doctor.

Maybe you are just different, my father dying would affect the shit out of me and I have friends who have parents who died and were devastated I am sure he might be quiet regardless who knows I don't know him, but losing his dad when he was 16 most likely affected him in a lot of ways and helped contribute to who he is today. Remember all you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be :P

Like most are saying, I don't think he's dumb (or at least not like mentally challenged) but rather he's just a really quiet guy who keeps to himself
Kawhi is just an introvert.

My father dying did affect me a lot but just not really personality-wise or at least I don't think so. I just think by that age its more set or so idk.

Nothing wrong with Kawhi, he's just a Spurs guy that lets his game do his talking. I do want him to give Durant a hard, flagrant foul next time they meet, though and then to let him know he's the one with the ring and and "the REAL MVP"

Well then what are you complaining about? Just be glad the Spurs FO had another stroke of luck trading for Kawhi, as they did drafting the Admiral and Timmy. Vastly talented men of humility and discipline do not exactly grow on trees.
I can't believe this thread still exists

He seems to be more introverted than most but there is nothing wrong with that. People in the spotlight are usually just more extroverted so Kawhi seems different.

There isn't anything wrong with him, he just doesn't like to run his mouth and is a reserved person. Because of his job and his performances he sometimes is forced to talk which he obviously doesn't care to do.

The signs were there. Dude has some personality issues, tbh..
Even if they resign him long-term, they can forget about him assuming any kind of leadership role in the franchise/team..They need another Avery Johnson in the locker room....
