I've been saying it for years. The Spurs know the future of the league is Pure Versatility, Positionless, All length and mobility lineups.
6'8 height 7'2 wingspan player who has PG skills. That's the future.
Daye Leonard Green Anderson Livio Bertans.

They have limited upside, Anderson is a playmaker, he has so much more potential than these 3 and D guys...

Will it matter if he can pass and rebound if he doesn't move well? Will he be able to rebound and get a shot off in the NBA?

I watched him play quite a bit this season because I live in LA and they show a lot of UCLA games out here, and I can tell you he's a good player. He's is slow though and will be a liability on defense, but he has skills, especially passing, and will be a great replacement for Diaw when he leaves imo. Good pick.
Spurs didn't expect him to be there at 30.

Kwahi/Diaw need a quality backup and this is it, bulk him up a little bit and another good passer for the engine. Love his height and wingspan.
Spurs is the best team in the league at developing role players, maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.
Can do a lot worse with 30th pick.

I like the pick
If there's one franchise that can work with such an unique player, it's San Antonio. He can definitely play.
Not impressed... :lol he does look like he's moving in slow motion. No elevation on the jumper and very late release. His offensive game will not translate well to the NBA. But Leonard had a terrible jumper too... maybe Chip can work another miracle. I see him more as a defensive player that can make those spot up 3's. Might eventually develop into a backup for Leonard.

At #30 you can't go wrong with a guy like Anderson. If he develops into Diaw 2.0 you've hit a homer, if he fails to develop it was only a #30 pick.

Diaw is smooth like butter when he wants to be and very uhm...I guess nifty is the word. When Boris is able to actually decide what he wants to do, he may not be fast about it, but he is on time. I look at Kyle and see slow feet with a slow release.
He's a Spur so I'm automatically rooting for him, but I am not excited.

he's a knockdown shooter, but his release is a bit slow. maybe chip can expedite his delivery. he was accurate but didn't really attempt a lot, less than 2 attempts per game. i know his skillset is being a ball handler, but on a team with duncan, parker, manu, kawhi, diaw he's not going to be controlling the ball :lol. he needs to establish the jumper first and play off of that, sort of like what we saw with marco in the regular season.
the high% plus the improvement we saw in kawhi gives me hope he can do that

he's not going to be controlling the ball early on with this spurs team, so at this point chip needs to get him to expedite his release. the rest will develop over time. with our roster, he's pretty much never going to be asked to run the point like he did at UCLA

He is compared to Magic Johnson, Manu, and Boris with a super high basketball IQ, a forward who has played point guard most of his life. They don't call him Slo Mo for nothing, says he sees basketball as a three step game, if he doesn't see anything by the second step he is passing the ball to someone who is open for a shot.

Exactly. You be surprised how having an extremely high iq will beat athleticism most of the time. Tim has always been unathletic to me when compare to Drob, young Shaquille, Kemp, Mourning, even Griffin, etc. What puts him above these guy is his bb iq. Tim always reminded me of Bird. Ultimate competitor, a leader, and one of highest bb iq ever to play the game but not the most athletic guy on the court.
Diaw slow, but he can play good D bc he knows how to position himself and isn't fooled with head fakes and such like most guys. I remember when guys in here called Green not athletic. Same people now consider him one of the best defenders in the league.

Early and Robinson were available, but they picked Anderson instead. I guess you can't teach IQ?
TheyCallMePro
06-26-2014, 10:28 PM
Ok. here's the thing: I like Anderson. He's a very smooth offensive player and very comfortable with the ball in his hands. He's a very good 3 point shooter (48%) and he won't panic and he'll make good decisions. He's a very savvy player and a good passer. He is without a doubt a "Spurs guy."
However...other than Sim Bhullar, there is not a more inferior athlete in this draft. Anderson can't jump, can't stay with anyone on D, and does everything slow--hence the nickname 'Slomo'. Even his release on his shot is super slow.
There's a point where basketball IQ isn't enough. I think the Spurs reached a little bit with this one. He may play back-up SF...but he's a completely different player than Kawhi. We'll see.

No chance a rookie is going to play in the playoffs for a contending Spurs team that will probably continue giving Belinelli another shot to redeem himself next year, tbh:lol..

Ok. here's the thing: I like Anderson.
We'll see.
It's the 30th pick. There is no such thing as reaching at #30. We aren't looking for an all star or starter, just possibly a solid bench player.

If Hoops Czar and tholdren don't like him, then he's probably going to be a solid player one day, those 2 niggas are wrong about everything, tbh:lol..
your boys Jeff Ayers and Marco Belinelli didn't work out so well for you. Neither did De Colo, Malik Hairston or James Anderson. I figure I have a pick to play with.
Btw, have you officially filled out the form yet. If not, what's taking so long?

Mcdaniels is a better shooter than Anderson (FT/2pt% ts%,efg%) and has lower TO% and a higher Usage% he has more win shares, and a higher PER, in case you didnt get to watch them.
I think the only team that was far and away more athletic was the Thunder with Ibaka. You are also forgetting that this core has played together for over a decade. It's not IQ that sets them apart, its familiarity and experience.

The players off our bench haven't been together for a decade (with the exception of Manu). But yet when we trot out guys like Patty Mills, Boris Diaw and Marco Belinelli we torch other teams. Our bench was dominant. That isn't the Big 3. Nor the Big 4. Thats a system of high IQ guys killing it.

Man this guy plays terrible defense to me this is a clone of Austin/Deshaun Thomas.
If Deshaun Thomas were 6'9" with a 7'3" wingspan, he'd be in the NBA already. If AUsint were more than 200 lbs, he could stay in the NBA. I'm thinking that ultimately, he'll defend 4s. They'll have to build him up a bit first, though. If they can get him up to a cut 240-245, instead of a doughy 230, he'll be alright.
The Spurs would not have spent a first round pick on a player they didn't think could defend a position in the NBA.

Your whimsical retorts had more bite back in 2011. I'll have to take your word for your basketball takes (or I won't). The search function only goes back 12 pages. These aren't terribly memorable posts from you. I can't be expected to remember.
Do you have other screen names? Maybe one of them did something of note.

Is Austin Daye the same kind of player?
If you take into account his anorexia...

Ok. here's the thing: I like Anderson.
We'll see.
:lol Comparing him to Kawhi. He's DIAW!!!

I'm not looking to make history with my posts. Pertaining to you, you can't be expected to remember your last basketball take or you don't remember me or both?

If Deshaun Thomas were 6'9" with a 7'3" wingspan, he'd be in the NBA already. If AUsint were more than 200 lbs, he could stay in the NBA. I'm thinking that ultimately, he'll defend 4s. They'll have to build him up a bit first, though. If they can get him up to a cut 240-245, instead of a doughy 230, he'll be alright.
The Spurs would not have spent a first round pick on a player they didn't think could defend a position in the NBA.
Diaw is going to get him on his diet plan.

Do you find that offensive? I could understand that's being taken as an insult.
Really, if this is all you did is it any wonder I don't remember you?

Would you be offended if I called you Ducks? Probably not because you share the same brain. This is all you do so I thought for sure you'd remember your mirror image.

Wow, i know nothing and i mean NOTHING about this or any NCAA guy. But this guy seems hat he can add to his game from almost all of our best players some of his passes in the scout report are very like Manuīs, some of his post offense seems like Boris, also his passing and he could add some of Leonardīs moves also. Seems like a great guy to work with. Very enthusiastic with this pick.
He could be our Lebron in the sense that seems able to play 2 to 4 positions, adding depth when needed because of injury.
EDIT: I am also drunk.

I don't know Hoops personally, but I know you. I don't think I've ever witnessed you actually embarrassing anyone because nobody takes you serious. I've seen you make a fool out of yourself. It must be difficult for a 40 year old virgin living in his parents basement to know the difference. Do you know the difference between people laughing with you and at you?

Anderson needs to bulk up, he'd be more of a 4 than a 3, he's just so slow...but he can be a mismatch waiting to happen if he can get stronger for that 4 position & by working on his 3 point shot.

Most sites are saying this is a steal for SA. I'm excited for the pick tbh. Long arms, solid passer, has some weight to him. Looks like his jumper is already solid fundamentally, will only improve. Looking to see how his skill set meshes with our different lineups..
Do you all think he joins the active roster this upcoming season?
