What the hell is the point of the ice-water challenge? Like, how is it helping anything?

Supposedly it helps get the word out about ALS. Still doesn't raise any money though if everyone takes the challenge.

Well, that's good. ALS is tied with Alzheimer's for the illness I'm most terrified of getting.

It's called viral marketing... they're all over the news and so far they've received $10m in donations... 5x more than what they usually get...

Your point stands though, all these niglets are getting wet while somebody else is pocketing the money :lol

It is definitely to raise awareness. While als isn't necessarily a rare disease, it doesn't have a powerful lobby because the people just die too quickly. 5 years is a pretty generous time frame to be given once diagnosed. Additionally, they can't "stand up and be heard" because both of those abilities are taken pretty quickly. I had a cousin who had this disease. He was diagnosed at 26. At the time he was an Austin Firefighter. He died three years later. It was really hard to watch him go through this because he was a very outgoing, energetic individual and pretty quickly, he was relegated to a chair and had to move his head around with a pointer attached to point at the letters on a screen to spell out the words that he was trying to get across. I can go on, but my battery is about to die. If you guys have any questions I can try to answer when I get back on.
