I saw this for the first time last night. Very disturbing/strange. Stoner movie of the millenium.

:tu

That black monolith in the white bedroom is one of the scarier things i've seen in a movie in a while :wow ...but i dont think it wasn't intended to be that scary

HAL is also one of the scarier movie characters i've ever seen.

oh yeah, and Stanley Kubrick is the fucking shit

I already liked him after FMJ and CO but after seeing this its almost an understatement saying how bad ass he is

What I find more disturbing is that SOME people can recite the dialogue from this film WORD FOR WORD...

There was one Hal line accidentally deleted from the original DVD Sound Track back in like 2000 & Warner Home Video Was Flooded with Hate Mail for messing with the film...The discs were recalled until the situation was figured out... :lol

What do you expect from the guy who made "Rosemary's baby"? I never saw the end of that btw. How'd everything work out?

Spurminator

Kubrick didn't do Rosemary's Baby.

That was Roman Polanski.

The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Lolita (1962), 2001: A Space Odyssey, Spartacus “un edited”... A Clockwork Orange...Are all some of the most disturbing movies ever made and they all directed by Stanley Kubrik.... :lol

The 1962 Lolita was CREEPY.....

Barry Lyndon was disturbing for different reasons.

Don't forget Dr. Strangelove... Possibly the best of all his movies.

Kubrick was an intellectually pretentious ass. His later movies sucked.

Damn...I forgot about Polanski. That guy just disappeared...even the hollywood "liberals" couldn't get past the pedophilia...gues Woody Allen is the only one that can get away with THAT...

Actually, he's still very revered in Hollywood circles, something I've always been pretty surprised about. (He got the Best Director oscar in 2002 for The Pianist and was given a standing ovation.)

He's a great filmmaker, but he's a convicted statutory rapist. I would think he'd be shunned.

Wasn't it Manny who said he worked with some computer program that had an error screen quoting HAL "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that."

Who can name this director?

http://img349.imageshack.us/img349/8457/dir6uc.jpghttp://img349.imageshack.us/img349/1563/gr7zo.jpg

One of the most underappreciated directors in film history. You've heard of (at the very least) three of his films, and all of them are considered by many to be among the top 10-or-so films ever made.

Correct.... David Lean.

Am I oblivious or is his name pretty much unknown by 90% of the population?

Correct.... David Lean.

Am I oblivious or is his name pretty much unknown by 90% of the population?I think so, but seeing Lawrence of Arabia in stretch 70 at the IMAX was one of my most memorable cinematic experiences. I plan on seeing it at the Paramount later ths week.

I just saw Bridge on the River Kwai for the first time yesterday on TMC. I always wish I had seen movies like that when they first opened so I could have that sense of context/timing, but it was still a pretty amazing movie.

How can anyone possibly hate this movie?

If you can sit down in a recliner, have surround sound and watch this movie with the volume up high, it should be one of the greater movie experiences of your life

Definitely should check out its sequel directed by Peter Hyams.
