View Full Version : Thunder: Durant expected to return tonight

StrengthAndHonor
12-02-2014, 11:37 AM
Kevin Durant is expected to make his return to the Oklahoma City Thunder lineup on Tuesday at the New Orleans Pelicans barring a setback during morning shootaround.

Durant has been out to start the season after undergoing surgery on his right foot to repair a Jones fracture in mid-October. The typical recovery time is six to eight weeks for this type of injury.

Durant won the 2014 NBA MVP.

Doctors have told Durant that there's only a five percent chance of him breaking the foot again.

Should be interesting. We'll see if he can break the Jones fracture curse. Still think they have dug too big of a hole to get back to the playoffs. If they do, they will have to beat themselves to death getting it done and may have nothing left for the post season. The lottery is probably a better outcome this season.

...and you have four teams that they have to catch that are no losses out of the 8th seed. This isn't the East where there are a bunch of shitty teams to get past or where a bunch of playoff teams will just start losing huge strings of games. To win 50 they would need to go 45-20 winning almost 70% of their games. That's if they stay completely healthy. They won 72% of their games last season at full strength. I'm not saying they can't do it, but it will be far from easy and I'd put a sizable amount of money on them not making it higher than the 7th seed if they do.

High seed? Doubtful. But i think they get in for sure. Health isnt promised to anyone but they probably got their injuries early instead of late (like the clips a few seasons back) so that helps. I dont think they beat a healthy SA, but unless Clips or GSW figures some shit out they are the only legit threat to the Spurs.

They only need to go at about a 54 win pace the rest of the year to hit 48 wins, which should easily get them into the 8 seed. Their chances at a top 7 seed are pretty slim, but they should easily be able to overtake Phoenix, Sacramento, Denver, and New Orleans if Durant and Westbrook stay healthy. Memphis can have the one seed to get stuck matched up against those fuckers in round 1.

not gonna happen. they need to get in shape first and that could take 1 month min. So you are looking at them getting to peak 3 months after allstar break or right before playoffs.

Sure they will manhandle the 75% of shit teams in the league but that won't mean anything.

so at best you are looking at them starting to click in May.

NOT

People overreacting to teams like they did when the Grizz beat the Spurs as the 8th seed. They thought they'd become the big bad wolf. They got quite the reality check.

Spurs exorcise their demon last year when they whooped their asses.

Thunder are not going anywhere this year so Spurs ain't got nothing to worry about any threat from them.

Its all about them Mavs this year, imo.

They're basically in a five team division competing for the 8th seed:

PHX 10-8
DEN 9-8
SAC 9-8
NO 7-8
OKC 5-12

They don't have to pass any of the teams currently seeded 1 thru 7, they just have to finish on top of the group listed. With 65 games remaining, that won't be a problem. If they stay healthy, they could well be in 8th place by the ASB.

Yep. Thunder dropped about as many games as they could during Alpha/Beta's absence, but they both made it back fast. The question now remains to be if they can stay healthy, and be effective enough to catch up and keep up in the competitive West. Chances are...they can.

Thuggets and Queens will cool off and drop out. Not sold on the Pelicans yet, but Davis is a beast so if he is healthy they have a chance.

Thunder lost home court advantage with the slow start, but they will be in the mix in all likelihood.

Because Phoenix, Sacramento, Denver, New Orleans, LA2, and Utah are their competition.
That doesn't tell me where the 48-win figure came from. I was just curious as to how you came up with that estimate.

That doesn't tell me where the 48-win figure came from. I was just curious as to how you came up with that estimate.

Because Phoenix, Sacramento, New Orleans, and Denver look like 45 win teams, so I added a couple of wins as a buffer.
