View Full Version : Spurs-Thunder game 6..

I was watching it earlier, it's my favorite half in Spurs history, tbh..

Everybody on Spurstalk was extremely excited about the result, but there wasn't much analysis following the game IIRC..

The Spurs were getting manhandled and destroyed in the 1st half, a 7th game seemed inevitable, but something happened to the team, all of a sudden, which led to a heroic comeback full of resiliency and beautiful basketball..

What was the difference for the Spurs in the 1st half compared to the 2nd half of that game?

Great ball movement in the second half.

I have no idea why some faggots here think this isn't a valid basketball discussion..

The entire game turned in the final minute of the third quarter, that is where we won it. The Green and 1 was huge.

Tim and Manu really took ownership of that game... Boris was also great in that 3rd quarter run, and Kawhi had that key steal in OT...

It was such a weird series, tbh... all the blowout games by both teams... not surprising it was decided in the first and only competitive game of the series...

- Tim making all the big shots down the stretch
- Manu running the offense + making big plays
- Kawhi with the historic strip of Westbrook
- Diaw with arguably the best game of his career
- Green with key 3s
- Mills with the energy
- Belinelli with a big 3
- Splitter with the screens and finishes
- Bonner starting the half
- Joseph, Baynes and Ayres cheering hard

Complete team effort, tbh..

That game is an all time classic to me now, watched it live in the 4th and cursed alot when the Spurs blew the lead and thought they blew the game and maybe the series, then they go to OT and take it over! That was a great game, one of my faves I have seen as a Spurs fan.

One of the greatest games I've seen, even with Spurs blinders off.

I always knew the Spurs could beat them, it was more about overcoming their athleticism and ref hookups. 2012 still pisses me off more than 2013 for that reason.
After overcoming the Thunder and refs last year, I knew no one was gonna stop them.

That Kawhi steal is still one of the purest :wow plays of all time.

i'm all for it and i consider myself a team fan. i even brought up TP's lousy real plus minus numbers earlier this week but come on, we need TP and he's going to bounce back up and play at a high level once he gets a rhythm going. It's ok to rag on him when he does too much or doesn't make the extra pass just as we rag on Manu's bad free throw shooting, or handles in the 4th quarter or TD's shitty in-bounds passing but we don't repeat without each key player making vital contributions to the team.

Yeah, that was one of the most emotional games I've ever watched. When the final buzzer sounded and we had won, it was like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. We had slain the dragon. I knew the Finals were a foregone conclusion after that.

Timmy took OKC to school in OT, and Kawhi's strip of Westchuck was fucking pure...one of the greatest defensive plays ever.

One of my proudest moments as a spurs fan. Beating OKC , in OKC, with all their antics (ref help include) was so satisfying. The game was so emotionally draining I was literally exhausted when it ended.

I don't care what anybody says, THAT was the best win of the entire playoffs. since the finals were such a blowout, it was anticlimactic.

A memorable game. My voice was gone after that game ended.

The Manu to Patty to Duncan to Diaw play, Diaw's dominant performance, Green's defense, Leonard's dunk on Abaka, Manu's clutch 3, Leonard's strip on Westbrook, Duncan taking us home in OT. So many great moments. Definitely an all time playoff game.

Cory Joseph's garbage time stuff in game 4 was true leadership that carried through for the rest of the series.

Joseph, Diaw, and Bonner really put some work in Game 4 to force Brooks to keep Durant, Westbrook, and Ibaka on the floor in the fourth. That quarter was huge for the Spurs going down the stretch in the series and Bonner doesn't get enough props for it.

For some reason he always gets you to react. He's actually been an objective fan (Spurs included) over the years. Dogging Parker is his stickh now and i understand his frustration considering Parker's shortfalls over the years in the playoffs.

He's just rubbing it in (to Parker fans) now and in the process has found shelter under Manutards, KL's & Green fans. :lol I'm pretty sure he'll get bored with the stickh soon.

Media bias, they hate the spurs blah blah blah, I know, it's tired. Not talking about that, just Reggie.

Damn, Reggie cannot hide his giddiness for the teams and players he likes. Durant Westbrook Curry Thompson Lillaird, Kobe, etc. He's like a little school girl with a crush "omg he's so cute! *scream*". Dude should not be calling national televised game.

Lol, using a different account to defend himself...

so many big plays in that game. The benching of parker in the 2nd half won that game for us. You had leonard's big block on westbrook, ginobli's 3, duncan's big shot, and ibaka's goal tend the ref ignored.

I wanted to punch Reggie in his horse mouth listening to this game. He was unbearable!!

*scream*". Dude should not be calling national televised game.
the spurs won the title in 2014, the Summer of 2014 all anyone talked about was "will lebron return home". The cavs get lebron, more ignoring of the spurs(who had just won the title). Then it was about will cleveland trade for Love. They get love and the league basically hands cleveland the title haha.

ok, let's discuss another issue. Kawai leonard wins finals mvp and kevin durant gets a new shoe commercial that's played ALL SUMMER as if he was in the finals. I'm not even from texas, but it seems as every time a texas team wins a title, there is another story the league and media talks about that summer to avoid giving that team props

94 - houston wins and all anyone discusses is jordan's retirement and would they have beat the bulls
95 - houston wins and people want to siscussjordan getting put out of the 2nd round and shaq challenging hakeem 1 on 1(in a game that never happened)
99 - spurs win and all anyone discusses is jordan's retirement and if the spurs would have beat the bulls
03 - the whole summer it was about shaq and kobe's beef after we beat the nets and it got worse when kobe raped that chick . there was no attention on us after that
05 - if u weren't an nba fan u woulnd't even have known who made the finals
07 - we sweep the cavs and it's all about lebron leading the cavs to the finals. shit, he even got to host the espys for getting swept
11- dallas beats the heat and everyone wonders what went wrong. instead of giving dallas their props, it's all about why the heat didn't win

and I mentioned above about this past summer. It's sad and disrespectful.

Best sequence was in OT. Ginobili gets blocked by Ibaka (FUCK!), Thunder on a fastbreak, Kawhi gets the block/steal on Westbrook (FUCK YEA!), Kawhi pushes the pace forcing a mismatch on Duncan, Duncan makes that shot (WOOOO!).

It's almost like Pop edited it.

The old school 90s videos had the story of the season, the drama of each playoff series leading up to the finals series. This one was like won games, won some more, beat Miami. Horrible.

This is obvious trolling again by 1 or 2 actual persons behind several accounts, but I'll bite. The Spurs in the second half looked like the Spurs usually did when Parker was out in various games from 2011-2013; they had to rely on highly coordinated and difficult ball movement and all players had to play well in order to make up for the loss of TP. Spurs were very close to losing that game.

It was good for TP to sit, because well, he was injured. He was great in Game 1 and +35 in Game 2. He played a great floor game in Game 5. But injured players don't play as well. If TP had been as healthy as he was in Game 1 or 2, Game 6 would not have been close. Spurs would have won easily.

Something that baiting and obsessed former-Lebron fanboys don't seem to acknowledge.

It was one of the biggest games in franchise history given what was on the line in that game

I loved that game. I actually put that game on (usually only the second half and overtime) in the background when I'm folding laundry or doing some other mundane household task. It helps pass the time.

Listen man, I'm not trying to take a shit on Tony..He's my favorite PG Of all time...I wasn't trying to be subtle, I know many people would think I am, but really no..

It just so happens that game 5 against the Blazers was one of the best games last year....

This has nothing to do with Tony. The best spurs PG ever.

Thunder still scares me more than any other team, even this year if they are fully healthy come playoff time.

Honestly Spurs had no business of winning that game, but the whole team played out of their mind, got some lucky breaks and survived until Durant/Westbrook/Refs ran out of gas. Duncan/Ginobili managed to turn the clock back to 2005 for the final minute and OT.

I still think Spurs is the weakest top team in final minute where individual star power tend to outshine team work but this was one of the exceptions.

That was pretty much the championship series.

The Spurs played in control and made the right plays at the end. That's championship Spurs ball. Just go watch some of the championship Spurs teams. Championship teams know how to close those games. Anyway forcing Durant/Westbrook to run out of gas is a good strategy. That's the best way to beat great players.

It is very different from the previous championship years when we had prime Duncan/Manu for final minutes of the games.

To see Duncan/Manu outlast prime Durant/Westbrook (with extremely crafty minute management from Pop through the whole season) at this stage of their career is totally different.

Loved the champ videos from the late 80s / early 90s. Even if you aren't a fan of those teams they are highly entertaining and dramatic.
