If the clipps lose tom, a houston loss wednsday against an improved Jazz team would get the spurs the 2nd seed eve with a loss.

My guess is the refs will be heavily favoring the Spurs. NBA will want to extend Westbrook's season.
But looking forward to this game as a fan. Both teams with something to play for. Tim Duncan in his twilight against the young AD.
And even if the Spurs lose, there's the silver lining knowing that Westbrook is done.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I'm not sure I have the time, will, or basketball expertise to write up the game grads. (TimVP used to do a great job, its why I started coming to this forum regularly). I check out El Contusion on 48minutesofhell.com. Wouldn't mind playing them at all in the playoffs...but having to play one game on the road when they're fighting for their season kinda sucks. Also doesn't help that we won't have Splitter, so guarding Davis will be even tougher than usual.
I think we'll win, but it's going to be close imo

You say that as if Parker will be defending him. In reality, they'll obviously hide Parker on Pondexter and have Leonard/Green serve as the primary Evans/Gordon defenders.
If Baynes can't buy Diaw a reasonable amount of rest and/or Davis puts Diaw in foul trouble, I wonder if Leonard will defend Davis some, with Green on Evans and Ginobili/Belinelli on Gordon. Not only might Leonard be the second best option next to Diaw, but with Bonner out, it's a way to generate better spacing when Diaw is on the bench.

Pelicans need ball movement. They thrive best when multiple guys are involved. AD has become a better passer as well during the course of the season. The key to Pels winning is when multiple guys are shooting well from field. However, what tends to happen is Tyreke will be in iso situations in too many key spots. It sucks Jrue Holiday wasn't limited since he would start with Gordon and Tyreke would be a 6th man playing on the 2nd unit with solid players like Ajinca, Anderson, Dante Cunningham, and Norris Cole.

Tyreke's game is outdated. He's only effective with the ball in his hands. His shooting has improved, but still not a good shooter. Inconsistent decision-making. Its hard to utilize a motion offense with him on the floor. Granted the Pels are a really good offensive team, but they could be better if Tyreke was a backup with Jrue and Gordon starting. Tyreke needs 4 guys on the floor who can shoot around him.

Really hard to believe that the Spurs are playing for another Division Title tonight.
The Spurs record is amazing -- 20 Division titles in 39 years in the league.
That means the Spurs have won their Division title, more often than they haven't won it, over an almost 40 year period.
Just to make the playoffs that often would be impressive, but to win the Division more often than not . . .
I know I'm just weird about this -- most people don't give a damn about Division titles . . .
Nobody talks about this record, ever.
But, damn, hopefully they make it 21 titles in 40 years tonight.

I'm with you. It is just exemplary of that continual excellence like that 50 win streak, etc. Not the ultimate goal, but does give you a good feeling knowing that the team you're rooting for takes your investment in them seriously over the long haul. A little luck in the draft doesn't hurt, either.

I will be at game tonight. Of course I want the Spurs to win. But if the Pelicans win I won't be broken up. The Spurs will go on and make a run anyway, but the Pelicans really need this win. I'd rather have the 5th seed over the 2nd, but eventually you have to play Golden State or the Clippers if you want to get back to the Finals at some point in time. Rather get the Warriors earlier rather than later.

Oh for sure, but if we can't get 2, 5 is the next best thing. Playing GS in the 2nd round may not be the worst thing. They are who they are IMO.
What I don't like at the #5 spot is after a tough series with GSW (which could easily go 7) then we play Clippers (most likely) without home court once again.
For that reason I tend to like the #2 spot where we get the Clippers in round #2 with home court first.
That leaves us only one series without home court, assuming anyone other than ATL makes it out of the East.

Let's not forget davis is not big or strong enough to guard Timmy in the post. I've seen Timmy bury him down there.
As Mel_13 said, Asik will be the primary Duncan defender. Since this is essentially a playoff game for them, Davis will probably play virtually the entire game, leaving no minutes for Ajinca in the process, so he probably will be the secondary defender.
What are you basing this on though, their outdated weight listings? Davis now weighs 242, while Duncan is 235-240. Granted, Duncan will always have a stronger base, but still.
I'm at peace with whatever happens tonight. I want the spurs to win but if they lose its not the end of the world.
It will be, in the sense of having a solid shot at repeating or an outside one. It's not only the difference between home court through two rounds and none, but the difference between potentially one relatively easy series (which they'll need) and none.

Ending up 5th is not out of the question tbh. Grizz are playing a desperate Pacers team without Conley and Allen. Rockets are also playing a Jazz team with the best D in the NBA since February.

Duncan generally has a lot of trouble in the post vs. Asik, but I'll take the trade for leaving him on and stalling their offense, tbh..
Hopefully Ryan Anderson's scrubby ass doesn't go off, though..that would be the most upsetting thing for me, if either him or Eric Gordon go off:lol..I'd rather have Davis drop 40-20 if they're going to win the game..

He's been absolute shit since he had neck surgery last season. At least before he was super efficient because of his 3-point shooting, but now he's just an average shooting stretch four who can't defend or rebound. Plus, he's dependent on ball movement which can be a problem with Evans on the floor. At least Ajinca can provide defense, rebounding, and scoring. His efficiency numbers are 2nd best on the team behind Davis.

Out of curiosity, how do Pelicans fans feel about the Noel trade in hindsight? Dude has looked pretty damn solid in the 2nd half of the season, and he just turned 21...Davis/Noel duo would be deadly. Jrue is great and all, but looking back on it, they should've kept Noel.

pop held a meeting for all the players. he called them in and said that it was "urgent."
parker was one of the first to arrive. kawhi and green had beat him there. those two were extremely close it seems, and it reminded him of how close he used to be to duncan.
as the last of the players and the end of the bench arrived, pop began to speak.
"now i know i don't have to tell you what's on the line," he said simply.
parker and the rest nodded.
"we are going to do this for oklahoma city."
his players had to suppress a snicker.
pop gave them a look. "i'm serious. those poor townfolks haven't had much to cheer about lately, so lets make their season by helping them get their team to the playoffs."
parker observed everyone in the room. duncan had his usual neutral face. he could probably tell if pop was kidding or not. kawhi looked down, as if deep in thought. green cracked a smile. diaw smiled as well, then nodded his head. splitter stared off into space. and ginobili seemed to have took what pop said to heart.
later on after the meeting, parker began to get dressed for the game before duncan approached him. when parker noticed him, he looked at him and said, "do you think that pop was serious?"
duncan gave him a lame look. "pop is pop, and he's always gonna be pop."
parker smiled softly as he finished putting on his jersey. he then turned to give duncan a determined look.
"i won't let it end like last time. i'll do my best, not for oklahoma, but for all of us." parker declared.
duncan simply smiled and patted his point guard's head before he took his leave.
as duncan walked away, parker whispered the final part of his statement.
"....and for you, timmy."
