Yeah. The whining about Tiago getting paid too much on that contract is sounding sillier by the minnit. The "Danny Green Is Under-Rated" crowd looking silly, too, with Danny winning the Danny v. Tiago poll 15-0, the last time I checked. Strawman.

Isn't it widely known by now that the Spurs are going to have to fill some roster spots with cheap vets if they end up landing Aldridge. There's only so much money going around and when a guy like Belinelli is getting offered north of 6M annually you know what type of market you are in. Prince could be a decent option.

But the salaries would be higher for someone who's at least competent and has been in the league longer. All I'm saying is that if Manu walks and Green leaves that's 2 roster spots to fill with vets that will cost significantly more than #26.

Signing a broken Wes Matthews to a risky $13-14 mil per year would be a really Mavs-esque move, tbh:lol..
Ellis to Indiana seems obvious, too, better version of Stuckey on a team that desperately needs perimeter penetration and volume scoring..could be a nice bounce-back team if they can get anything in the frontcourt..

A vet's min is higher for someone who has been in the league longer, but the cap hit is the same. I forget the specifics, but think the league eats part of the difference.
At this point, those roster spots will just be held by $525k minimum cap holds. Can sign a 10 year vet to a deal multiple times bigger that's still vet min later.

Kobe and LMA would bring out the worst in each other and the Lakers offense likely terrible. Byron Scott also encourages long 2s LOL
For Spurs we have the opposite with LMA finally converting all those long 2s into 3s and likely the offense would be great.

Realistically, a team with Parsons as a major option probably isn't contending any time soon, anyways..might as well take risks on Matthews and/or Jordan, I suppose..
I don't know why these teams keep banking on score-first SFs that don't do anything else..unless it's a generational talent like Durant, it's going to be really difficult to fit that type of player on your team..

I wasn't grouping Matthews with Parsons in my SF statement, it was a separate thought..
Matthews is absolutely worth 15 if he's healthy and back to form IMO..
I was referring to players like Parsons, Tobias Harris, Jeff Green, Michael Beasley before everybody realized he was a bust, Rudy Gay, etc..I guess people just assume they can play defense because they're long and athletic, but it's extremely difficult to fit these types of players on a top-tier team..

Would be pretty surprised if Brewer gets a substantial deal in 2015, tbh..he's aging, his athleticism is going to decline soon, his only skill is running on the fast break(average defender, below average shooter, can't create, etc), I would like to think that teams are intelligent enough today to avoid paying a guy like that too much when he should be a nice 8th/9th man on a team..

Some Danny Green/Knicks quote.
http://nypost.com/2015/07/01/spurs-free-agent-danny-green-id-be-crazy-not-to-meet-with-knicks/
...
Green, the Babylon, Long Island native, said just having Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher leading the charge is enough to listen.
“For sure – anybody turning down a meeting with them would be crazy,’’ Green said Tuesday night on Alan Hahn’s ESPN Radio show in the hours leading into the free-agency period. “It starts with them and Melo as well.’’
Reports early Wednesday morning had Sacramento and Detroit making contact with Green’s reps. The Knicks are coming off a 17-65 record and drafted a project at No. 4 in Kristaps Porzingis.
“I don’t think people are scared of the Knicks,’’ Green said. “They’re rebuilding. … Some guys want to go where they’re already winning. They get a couple of good pieces this summer, I’m sure it’ll attact more guys.’’
“I’ve thought of many different scenarios,’’ Green said when asked if he would want to play in the Knicks’ triangle. “I don’t know what’s going to happen.’’

Honestly, if Aldridge doesn't give a firm answer after meeting PATFO this morning, I think the Spurs need to start pursuing the B options. I understand that LA is the best FA available and would be a great acquisition, but he's known for months which teams would be pursuing him and should have been able to figure out who gives him the best chance of winning while also being able to calculate the money each team can offer. I get that there are still some unknowns associated with the rosters, but if the guy doesn't recognize that the Spurs offer a better more stable environment than the Lakers, Dallas, ect. over the next 4 years, then LA doesn't truly want to come here. I just don't know what the Knicks, Lakers, Raptors, Mavs, or any other team can offer in terms of "hey come here and you've got a great chance of winning" that could beat out the Spurs, at least in the next couple of years.
As for Danny Green, the guy deserves to get a nice paycheck but I think 12 mil per is probably the limit. He's great at what he does (shooting, defense), he is just limited in what he does well. I couldn't blame him if he went to another team for more money, but when the main franchises that are pursuing you are as dysfunctional as the Kings, Pistons, and Knicks, I think he needs to fully consider what that extra contract money is really worth.

Crazy how the much higher cap next year will drive up contract values. For once it paid to spend an extra year in school. First contract is implied at what Davis would get, second roughly matches what they're talking about for Lillard, and fourth is what Kawhi/Butler will see assuming a $67.1mm cap.

Pretty decent roster. Lucky we have hometown advantage and no state income tax.
They'd have only $4-$6 million of cap space once Chandler is signed, so would need to unload Bledsoe for no salary, and that still may not even get them to the Aldridge max.
Spurs have already created the cap room, so much more certainty to their offer. There would be takers who have $13.5mm to absorb Bledsoe, though ... Philly for one.

This is all a waste of time. Why not say that he liked all the meetings? It's not like he is going to diss a team that he may want to join in the future. Are people not realizing what LeBron is doing to the Cavs, tbh?:lol
Insiders have been saying this for weeks..he's going to force Gilbert to pay a record amount of luxury tax out of spite and leverage..
Be careful what you wish for, tbh.

Can they afford Monroe and Aldridge?
Yeah that's supposedly their plan.

Portland?
That doesn't sound good.
Eh, even if LMA doesn't resign with them Monroe would be a decent piece to help replace him.

Weird that Portland would be pursuing Greg Monroe to play alongside him, when Duncan can play the center much more comfortably than he can. Playing Monroe at the 5 would just be forced.

Yeah that's supposedly their plan.
Getting the Spurs' plan A and plan B, while getting the Spurs to trade away their starting center would be the biggest fucking so far for sure.

I don't think it's a good idea on his part, but I think it's obvious that he's forcing Gilbert to spend a ton of $$ while keeping their team intact..
A team paying 18 per year for a rebounding specialist and 10 per year for an average role player has to be a move to fuck with Gilbert:lol..

Choosing Phoenix would just be so fucking stupid. Knight and Chandler, really?

Sources: Suns have legitimately closed the gap in pursuit of LaMarcus Aldridge. Tyson Chandler, perimeter talent. They're a real factor.

Suns believed before meeting Aldridge they had a shot. They were right. Chandler surprise big. Phoenix was "very impressive," per source
