I think Gerald Green signed there mainly because of Goran Dragic. I haven't seen anyone really bring up that point. Wasn't Gerald's best year in the NBA the 2014 season when Dragic was the main PG in Phoenix, if so, that makes sense to me on why he signed for the minimum there. If he plays well again, this could really set him up for a bigger contract next off-season. I think he's probably comfortable playing with Dragic. Also, if Riley can team him to play decent defense, then he really could be up for a much bigger pay day next off-season.
The other bonus would be that if Wade needs time/games off, then he'd get even more court time. Seems like a pretty good deal for him even though it's the minimum salary wise, everything else seems like a good fit for him there.
Gerald Green isn't a guy that primarily scores off assists, he's a gunner that will shake & bake then let it fly ala Nick Young.

Yeah they could either be really great, or incredibly mediocre. Wade's health is a huge question mark. Bosh will be coming back from blood clots in his lungs and there's no telling how that will affect him going forward. I'm not sure if Whiteside's play year was a fluke, or if he's legitimately that good. McRoberts was pretty solid in Charlotte a year ago, but he missed basically all of last year. Don't know if Gerald Green will play like he did last year, or closer to his 2014 level.
If things go their way, they could be the 2nd seed in the East. If not, they could be really underwhelming given what their roster looks like on paper.
They are like the 2014-15 Bulls who had a lot of question marks going into the season but were considered a threat to the Cavs.

So Presti is willing to sign Kanter to a max contract but he wasn't willing to sign James Harden to a max contract? :lmao
Most overrated GM is NBA history.
If it weren't for the Grizzlies the Thunder wouldn't even have drafted Harden. They really wanted Thabeet.

You have to give him credit though...that team is looking pretty solid now.
Dragic/Chalmers
Wade/Winslow
Deng/Gerald Green
Bosh/McRoberts
Whiteside/Amar'e
Not gonna call them contenders or anything, but considering they just lost LeBron a year ago, they've recovered pretty well.
They are contenders in the East...
Why don't Spurs sign Bargnani for the min?

European 7-footer Tibor Pleiss is finalizing a three-year, nearly $10 million agreement with the Utah Jazz, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Pleiss, 25, has been one of the top centers in the Spanish ACB league and is only awaiting the completion of paperwork on the agreed-upon buyout with his Barcelona contract in order to sign with the Jazz early next week, league sources said. Pleiss, a German, was the 31st overall pick of the 2010 NBA draft before his rights were traded three times, ultimately to the Jazz as part of the Enes Kanter trade in February. Pleiss has developed into one of Europe's better center prospects and is considered one of the best passing big men in the world. Oklahoma City Thunder officials tried to bring Pleiss to the NBA a year ago, but his buyout in the Spanish ACB League was still too prohibitive. Pleiss will join a strong and deep Jazz frontcourt, including 7-foot-3 Rudy Gobert and power forward Derrick Favors.
Congrats Tibor :toast
Jazz frontline gets even bigger, but from all I have seen from him, he is pretty soft. No chance against BOBAN :ihit

If George is anywhere near the same player, ya, I think they get in..
In no order, I expect Cleveland, Atlanta, Miami, Washington, Chicago, Indiana, Milwaukee and Toronto to get in..I think it'll be competitive, though, I could see Charlotte and Detroit getting in, as well..

Harkless is an overrated prospect, but ya, it's a nice risk for Portland..
They are going to be bad this year(bottom 3 in the conference), but I like their off-season, overall..they are trying out a bunch of young players with upside and seeing what they have in them, rather than trying to compete for a playoff spot by signing/acquiring veterans that have peaked or are on the decline(like Sacramento and the Lakers, for instance)..

Maybe, but I think they have by far the most overrated roster in the league, I've been saying it for years..the Bulls and Clippers are perennially overrated due to the names on their rosters, tbh..
Bulls are a very poorly built team..they're still relying on an average PG to be their star(when Butler is better than him, easily) and he can't play off the ball, their best big man is a horrible defender(Gasol), their best defensive big can't play offense anymore(Noah), Noah and Gasol can't play together, they don't have any perimeter defense now that Butler has to exert way more energy on offense, limited bench, etc..
People look at the names on their roster and act like Rose, Gasol and Noah are anywhere near the same players they once were:lol..
DPG21920
07-12-2015, 06:47 PM
They are overrated, but won because of their defensive system and the fact they are in the East. They aren't really that good at all. Wouldn't be surprised, like you said, if they struggle. But I still have them being more energized next year and still making the playoffs unless things go really bad.
HarlemHeat37

I think they'll get in, too, but as a 6-7 seed IMO..
East look more interesting, at least, with Miami's roster(if everything goes right) and I'm interested in seeing how the Bucks look with Monroe(they should be able to mask his defense with all the athletes around him)..if they had a different PG than Carter-Williams' scrubby ass, they could be a tough team..

What about Boston? They won 40 games last year, and they have a young roster that is bound to experience internal improvement. They kept everyone except for Bass, and added Amir Johnson and David Lee (he's not great, but he can be a solid role player still). I'm really high on Brad Stevens and think he's already a top 5ish coach in the league. They had one of the best records in the league post all-star break after adding Isaiah Thomas.
I think they might be my favorites for that 8th seed IMO.

Man, what happened to this kid (Miller)?! Good player when he was in highschool. He still young though, has the potential to be a good defensive, long 3 (best case, Greek Freak; worst case, Luc Mbah A Moute.)
I'd really like to see us pick miller up if he does get released. Would fit in with our other signings. Young kid with playing experience. He can shoot the ball too. And at 6'9" brings great size and length to the position.

Deshaun Thomas has had a relatively good season in Europe but nothing great. Spurs still have a player with the same physical flaws but a higher upside with Kyle Anderson so I don't really see the point in adding him.
However, Thomas has played Spurs' game by staying overseas 2 years so I have nothing against Spurs playing it nice with him by either renounce to his rights or letting other NBA teams that they can have him for the usual top55 protected second round pick.

Michele Roberts, Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Association, issued a statement today in response to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver's assertion that several teams were still losing money despite salary givebacks from players after the 2011 lockout, and enhanced revenue sharing among teams. She said the union would not negotiate "the finer points" of their discussions with the league about revenues in public.
However, she included several bullet points in the statement concerning revenues:
"Under the CBA, we do not have a gross compensation system. The players 50% share is calculated net of a substantial amount of expenses and deductions.
New and renovated arenas around the league have proven to be revenue drivers, profit centers, and franchise valuation boosters. That has been the case over the past few years in Orlando, Brooklyn, and New York, to name a few. In some instances, owners receive arena revenues that are not included in BRI. Many teams also receive generous arena subsides, loans and other incentives from state and local governments as part of their arena deals.
Virtually every business metric demonstrates that our business is healthy. Gate receipts, merchandise sales and TV ratings are all at an all-time high. Franchise values have risen exponentially in recent years, and the NBA has enjoyed high single digit revenue growth since 2010-11."

That bench 1-4 is pretty darn good too. Probably the best bench in the West as well.
Rox did well to replace Beverly with a real PG. Lawson borderline all star caliber offensive player.
Spurs will regret not exploring trade. Lawson replacing Parker would have made Spurs unguardable. Spurs front office will regret this when fat and slow Parker cannot stay in front of Lawson
If I could be told that Howard and Harden would not be mental midgets for once, I would have this team as title cofavorites.

I'd keep Beverely in the SL and have Lawson come off the bench..Lawson's effectiveness would take a significant hit playing with Harden..
Harden hasn't played off the ball in years, and Lawson is one of the worst off-ball players in the NBA..they should have him as bench anchor for a bench that doesn't have anybody that can create for themselves, outside of the occasional Montejunas post-up..

To emphasize the "Rockets need someone to carry the offense when Harden goes to the bench" point...
Rockets' ORTG with Harden last year = 110.6 (would be 5th in the league), Rockets' ORTG without Harden last year = 96.6 (would be 2nd worst, only ahead of the 76ers)
Lawson might be a shitty defender, but he's an excellent offensive player who, again, gives the Rockets a secondary playmaker.
Nuggets' ORTG with Lawson last year = 108.0 (would be top 10), Nuggets' ORTG without Lawson last year = 96.9

I actually agree with this, but two things:
1) I seriously doubt they'll do this, and even if they wanted to, there's no telling Lawson (a guy who's been known to cause locker room problems) would be fine with it
2) Either way, Harden is playing 36-38 mpg...so the majority of Lawson's minutes are going to come while Harden is playing too.

Barcelona wanted to re-sign Thomas but he turned them down saying he wanted to give NBA a try. Barcelona moving on show that he was serious and that he should be at a NBA training camp this fall. If Spurs still value him as an interesting prospect, he will be a serious candidate to get that 15th roster spot.

Pretty sure you won't hear David West say anything along these lines whenever he's asked about the sacrifice of $$. Spurs are lucky not to have mental midgets like this on their squad.

Who is this N'dour guy? Was he drafted?
Also, that's fucking idiotic from Josh Smith if he thinks 6.9 million requires him pushing through it. What a fucking joke. I was interested in him to backup Kawhi last season, and I would have even considered it this off-season too if he would have taken the minimum (I guess the Spurs weren't interested), but after reading that, no thanks. Kawhi won finals MVP earning less than that. Josh Smith hasn't done jack shit in comparison and he seems to think 6.9 million is a paltry amount of money?

Meh, I think people might be misinterpreting what Smith meant. The direct quote is this:
"At the end of the day, you know, I do have a family," he said. "So it is going to be a little harder on me this year. But I'm going to push through it, you know."
I'm not sure what the question was that prompted him to say that, but he could've easily been referring to how his family was having to move again and that's why things would be tough. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

Poor choice of words tbqh, saying he'll have to "push through." That implies struggle. If he said he'd have to adjust his lifestyle, I don't think it would've been met with the same response.

Stein was reporting Mavs, OKC, and Grizz. At this point, with all the potential defensive liabilities with the 2nd unit, I don't think they could afford to have him out there.

Tbh, if the Spurs are so desperate for shooters that they would sign Jimmer Freedette, it's not hard to envision a scenario in which they would pursue Mike Miller, a player they've expressed interest in previously.

I mean the other potential options for that 15th spot are Jimmer Fredette and Reggie Williams...not exactly defensive juggernauts :lol
The only way the Spurs bring him in is with a training camp make good deal. At this point in his career, he's going to expect a fully guaranteed deal for the season. Spurs probably won't do that. We have plenty of vets anyway. 15th spot should be for a young player with some upside.

True, but at this point the Spurs have the offensive power they need on the 2nd unit, personally I think the 15th spot would be better used on a prospect of 10 days on someone with some defensive potential

They have more than half of their team on an auction right now in order to shed from the tax, or try to get under the threshold. Almost everyone bar Wade, Bosh, Dragic, Winslow and Whiteside can be had for 30c on the dollar. They can't even attach picks to get rid of Deng's contract, which would solve a lot of their problems with the tax :lol

Nah! I expect Orlando possibly thinks Napier has more potential, being new to the league and a known NCAA scorer/shooter. He had some good games during the course of the season. Chalmers is probably not generating interest from anyone.

Lesson for the Cavs tbqh. They'll be left in a couple years with a garbage team overpaying on garbage players well into the lux tax as he begins to decline. Kobe 2.0...only with GM power. Good for the Spurs tbqh.

Yeah but Miami would say it's worth it for two championships. And the Heat is worth more than anything they are paying out in the tax. Cabs value is way up with LeBron.

Great fit for GS, either in the Speights role of 15-20 mpg PF off the bench or as a quasi-smallball C. Lacks motor and energy, but playing for a contender can remedy that. JT is a skilled player who was stuck on bad rosters for all his carreer. Look out.

I would have thought that his game as a 3&D player would translate better but the longer 3 point line seems to have affected his shooting quite a bit. He'll get plenty of offers back in Europe.

Nets Waiving Earl Clark
AUG 3, 2015 9:02 PM
The Brooklyn Nets are waiving forward Earl Clark this week, obliging his request to pursue a deal elsewhere, league sources told RealGM.
A six-year NBA veteran, Clark played 10 games for the Nets in 2015 after the Chinese Basketball Association season. He averaged 2.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9.3 minutes per game.
Clark has played for the Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks and Nets, averaging 4.4 points and three rebounds for his career. The 6-foot-10 forward will now scan interest from teams.
Clark was the 14th overall selection in the 2009 NBA draft
