You can't sign contracts until July 9th, so if they got LMA they'd sign Duncan first to lower his cap hold, send the paperwork to the league office, then Aldridge probably 30 minutes later, send the paperwork into the league office, and then probably sign Green and Leonard 30 minutes later.

That deal is going to look pretty nice once the cap goes up. Among guys who are mostly 3 and D wings, Danny's at least among the top handful -- and probably among the best at doing those two specific things in combination -- and he's taking less in this market to do that than, say, Middleton or Carroll.

Not that it's been much of a topic, but I don't think anyone can question Danny's commitment to winning (or to the Spurs).

I think he comes from a pretty well-off family, so it's possible that he has never really worried about money and doesn't want to start now. But still, Danny is giving up more than any Spurs besides Tim has. I wonder if they are thinking about the tax in all this?

The room exception is a small exception (about 2.8M per year for a max of two years) granted to teams that use cap space to sign free agents. It was added in the 2011 CBA.

So they could renounce Manu and then sign him with that exception.

I think it's possible that Ginobili could come back for the minimum or whatever is left on the table after all is said and done.

It'd put a damper on things if Ginobili retires but I haven't given up hope. Even he has to be excited with what's going on, even though Splitter was his best friend on the team.

That will hopefully be enough money to coax Manu into doing a victory lap on his career. If he announces one more season, Spurs fans will celebrate him all season. A fiesta would break out each time he checks into the game.

They could even do the Dice deal and sign him to a two year deal with the second year 50% guaranteed. Then he effectively gets 4.2M for next year.

All these moves almost certainly mean that TD has already agreed to take whatever cap space is leftover after they sign LMA.

Question is, does tendering Joseph count in the plan? Right now, he's on the hold for more than $5 Million, I believe. So even minus Splitter, you have LMA and Cory eating all the cap space.

Is it possible that Tim is taking the minimum after all?

Me neither... but the Spurs are pot committed now. They're going to have to chuck Mills if necessary. At the beginning I really only wanted the Spurs to give up Splitter because losing Mills and Splitter + renouncing most of the bench is going to be way too much.

Although I think since Duncan might agree to a lower contract and Manu maybe accepting one of the exception, the Spurs won't have to give up Mills.

Yes, but in the current scenario it really doesn't matter as we're assuming that his new contract will be for substantially less than his cap hold. So, even though he may technically be signed with his Bird Rights, the salary will have to fit into the remaining cap space.

I don't think so. My read on the Cojo QO was that it was a risk free move if we assume that Cory stands to get offers approaching the MLE in today's market. Therefore, almost zero chance that he signs the QO and fouls their plans. If LMA agrees today, then they renounce the QO. If he goes elsewhere, then the Spurs match reasonable offer for Cory.

OTOH, they didn't tender the QO to Baynes, even though they planned to move Splitter. Baynes was much more likely to sign the QO, imo.

Maybe. But I guess I'm wondering if Tim considers Cory one of those must-keep guys. I can totally see the front office thinking he has a real future in SA still, especially since it gives them the freedom to move Mills. Tim made room for Danny in the 2012 off-season. So there's a precedent there.

Not only do I get my old job back, but they gave me a raise! to play for/with the greatest teammates and coaches, you'll ever see around the game, in the greatest organization in the world! Thank you for this great opportunity and thanks to the fans for always supporting #Spurs

Great - DG is essential to the Spurs regardless of getting LMA or not. Love his attitude/love/respect for the Spurs and his remembering where he came from/how hard it was. Well deserved - congrats!

This is flat out false.Danny spent most of his 4 years in college saving up his Stipend money to send it back home to his family to help out while his dad was in prison. He briefly entered the draft after his junior year, when he was not projected to be drafted, because he felt like he needed to make money to support his little brother.sorry Chinook, but you don't seem to know much about Danny.

Yeah, I read the story. His father went to prison when Green was a sophomore and got out when he was a junior. Not exactly a lifetime of hardship.

I think if Manu was coming back he'd be at that meeting with LMA in LA.

I agree with you. Manu and Tim would've been in the meeting making a verbal commitment of the respective amount they were going to take in order to talk about LMA's salary demands. But since Duncan is the only one pitching the ability to take a pay cut, it makes it seem as if Manu's out of the picture.

Patty is going nowhere

I hope so, risk is Spurs to be obliged to make a trade to stay under the cap that's why the confirmation or not of cap increase by 2 M is important

if I understood correctly

Couldn't be happier about Danny returning. I was really bummed about the possibility of him leaving. Glad my niqqa is here to stay.. Welcome back Danny!

The embedded tweets are working fine. What's wrong with them for you?

Awesome news. LDN has a certain moxie that is needed, besides the badass defense.

Thank God Danny Green is back.

Couldn't imagine the team without him.
Cosigned.
