I don't live my life scared of criminals, but that's just me. I understand somebody feeling differently, and I have good friends that feel different about it.
This whole thing basically amounts to the theater not wanting liability for an accidental discharge, etc. Business-wise, it's understandable why they choose to do this.

Now that's a personal thing, and I know people that feel differently about it. My associate, for example, would be described by boutons as a "gun-fellator", does competitive shooting, is a cool cat, and there's nothing wrong with that, IMO.

I get the idea of CCW as a general strategy to make potential killers second guess whether they can get away with a violent crime, but I'm not sure how it prevents an incident like this where the killer seemed to be willing to die anyway. There's no way you ever get a shot off on him more quickly than he'd get several off on a crowd of people, and like you said, that wouldn't be the safe play anyway. Also, the more people carrying, the more likely it is that someone tries to be a hero and kills more people in the crossfire.

Cool that is what I thought but just wanted to clarify.
Well, when I say malfunction, I mean accidental discharges (vs negligent). Which are extremely rare, but do happen. IE: manufacturing defect, somebody doing shoddy gunsmithing work, something breaking internally in an old gun, defective ammo, etc.
So it's not all about lack of trust on the person. It's also minimizing already extremely small odds.

so creating a thread and using that thread title makes me an arbiter of terrorism? lol

This feud is admittedly a little weird.
It's only weird because the arbiter of terrorism can't admit or come to terms with his true feelings because he is afraid his e-friend enemies will pounce on him.
I have no such compunction.

You completely misunderstand CCW if this is what you believe. It's not about making a criminal second guess. It's not about preventing incidents. It's not about being a hero. It is simply giving yourself more of a chance compared to the guy who isn't CCW'ing, however small that chance may be.
If it's that small, there's really little point.

Well considering that white america assume that minorities buy their guns illegally, it's no surprise. Also, the biggest pro-gun activist are white.

I would agree with Apo here. It's white American male that pushes the 2nd amendment. So of course people concentrate on the weird white guy. I would venture a guess that these types of situations are fairly evenly distributed by ethnicity. We had the two black males in Mayland and the black guy on the NY subway for the weird black shut ins.

I understand dead is dead.
Its more about the random kill anyone v. Gang turf wars. People obviously are more concerned with the random crowded spot v. the turf they stay away from. #blacklivesmatter especially when police are involved.

Well, I do think random acts of violence in a crowded public setting do warrant more attention than the more everyday crime like gang violence or domestic violence (though those things need more high level attention on trends, etc.)... But I think it's safe to say a black guy pulling out a gun in a movie theater and shooting random people would spark more of a race debate than a gun debate. A Muslim doing it would spark a debate on Islam and terrorism. Headlines across every news site would be different, and sadly predictable depending on the source.

As with all these mass murderers, he was mentally ill. Yet, the democrats will scream for more gun control and will refuse to address the primary issue. Since he used a vehicle to drive to the theater, lets outlaw cars. And lets outlaw theaters since they seem to attract these nuts. Better yet, let's outlaw democrats and liberals since they have demonstrated their mental illness and lack of concern for the safety of Americans. Can you say illegal aliens and sanctuary cities? Come on liberal nuts balls, I know you can.

In 2008, Houser’s wife, Kellie Maddox Houser, and other family members requested a protective order from him.
According to court documents, obtained by the Associated Press, he “exhibited extreme erratic behavior and has made ominous as well as disturbing statements.”
The filing said Houser had “a history of mental health issues, i.e., manic depression and/or bi-polar disorder.”

Bobby Jindal, Does Louisiana ‘Love Us Some Guns’ Now?
The Louisiana Governor and GOP presidential candidate bears much responsibility for the fact that his state has some of the laxest gun laws in the US—and leads the country in gun deaths.
“We love us some guns,” Bobby Jindal once said (http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/southerner-wonk-immigrants-son-can-bobby-jindal-win-at-every-role/2015/03/14/eda87a74-be94-11e4-8668-4e7ba8439ca6_story.html) of his fellow Louisianans. Two of them were killed, and nine others wounded, on Thursday night when a man walked into a movie theater in Lafayette, sat for a while, and then fired (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/25/us/lafayette-theater-shooting-john-houser.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=second-column-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news) more than a dozen rounds from a .40 caliber handgun.
“We never imagined it would happen in Louisiana,” Jindal said (http://www.wjhg.com/home/headlines/Three-Dead-and-Seven-Injured-in-Louisiana-Theater-Shooting-318402931.html) afterward, though the state has the second-highest (http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2015/01/louisiana_has_2nd-most_gun_dea.html) rate of gun deaths in the country, more than twice the national average. Louisiana also has some of the laxest firearm regulations, for which Jindal bears much responsibility. During his eight years as governor he’s signed at least a dozen (http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/bobby_jindal_who_greatly_expanded_access_to_guns_w e_never_imaged_this_would_happen_in_louisiana) gun-related bills, most intended to weaken gun-safety regulation or expand access to firearms. One allowed people to take their guns to church (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/guns-in-church-jindal-signs-louisiana-bill-into-law/); another, into restaurants that serve alcohol. He broadened Louisiana’s Stand Your Ground law, and made it a crime (http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/06/gun_control_bobby_jindal_law.html) to publish the names of people with concealed carry permits. At the same time Jindal has pushed forcuts (http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/06/bobby_jindal_budget_cuts_2013.html)to mental health services.
Jindal "never imagined it would happen in Louisiana,” though LA has the 2nd-highest rate of gun deaths in the US
Jindal treats guns not as weapons but political props. On the presidential campaign trail he’s posed repeatedly for photos cradling a firearm in his arms. “My kind of campaign stop,” he tweeted earlier this month from an armory in Iowa. After the Charleston massacre, he called President Obama’s mild comments about gun violence “completely shameful.” The correct response then, according to Jindal, was “hugging these families,” and “praying for these families.”
http://www.thenation.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Screen-Shot-2015-07-24-at-12.15.44-PM.png (http://www.thenation.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Screen-Shot-2015-07-24-at-12.15.44-PM.png)http://www.thenation.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Screen-Shot-2015-07-24-at-12.15.26-PM.png (http://www.thenation.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Screen-Shot-2015-07-24-at-12.15.26-PM.png)
On Thursday night Jindal hurried from Baton Rouge to the parking lot of the theater in Lafayette and again called for prayer. “Now is not the time,” he said (http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2015/07/bobby_jindal_lafayette_shootin.html#incart_maj-story-1) when a reporter asked about gun control. It is the time, he said later, to send the victims “your thoughts, your prayers, your love.”
Meanwhile, Jindal’s campaign staff were reportedly contacting people commenting on Twitter about Louisiana’s gun violence problem and telling them (https://twitter.com/RTMannJr/status/624438809183195137) to “put politics aside.”
“When it comes to the Second Amendment, no governor in the last four years has done more to protect our freedoms than Bobby Jindal,” an NRA official said of Jindal during his reelection campaign in 2011. Few have done as much on behalf of the NRA, certainly—and as little to protect their constituents.

Now a new study from researchers at Mount St. Mary's University (http://www.gunvictimsaction.org/downloads22/FirearmsTrainings%20_StudyDocument_F_062115.pdf) sheds some light on why people don't use guns in self-defense very often. As it turns out, knowing when and how to apply lethal force in a potentially life-or-death situation is really difficult.
The study was commissioned by the National Gun Victims Action Council (https://gunvictimsaction.org/ngvac-mission-statement/), an advocacy group devoted to enacting "sensible gun laws" that "find common ground between legal gun owners and non-gun owners that minimizes gun violence in our culture." The study found that proper training and education are key to successfully using a firearm in self-defense: "carrying a gun in public does not provide self-defense unless the carrier is properly trained and maintains their skill level," the authors wrote (https://gunvictimsaction.org/press-releases/gun-carriers-fail-at-self-defense-in-independent-study-at-police-training-facility/) in a statement.
They recruited 77 volunteers with varying levels of firearm experience and training, and had each of them participate in simulations of three different scenarios using the firearms training simulator (http://www.milorange.com/index.php) at the Prince George's County Police Department in Maryland. The first scenario involved a carjacking, the second an armed robbery in a convenience store, and the third a case of suspected larceny.
They found that, perhaps unsurprisingly, people without firearms training performed poorly in the scenarios. They didn't take cover. They didn't attempt to issue commands to their assailants. Their trigger fingers were either too itchy -- they shot innocent bystanders or unarmed people, or not itchy enough -- they didn't shoot armed assailants until they were already being shot at.

Just curious, do such safety courses include training for deadly force situations and is any of the training ongoing, or does it happen just once?
