A police officer has undergone potentially lifesaving surgery after he was shot in the head while on duty near a college in downtown Detroit.

Collin Rose, 29, was shot just a few blocks from Wayne State University about 6.45pm on Tuesday, and was then rushed to the Detroit Receiving Hospital for surgery.

Sources describe suspect in shooting death of RTD officer as 'radical Muslim'
DENVER -- The man suspected of shooting and killing a uniformed RTD contract security officer in Lower Downtown late Tuesday night has been described as a radical Muslim, law enforcement sources said Wednesday.
The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Joshua Cummings.
Two sources said investigators found jihadist materials in Cummings' backpack and those materials are being investigated.
Scott Von Lanken, 56, was shot and killed, the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner confirmed.

Fresno shooting spree: 3 people killed, suspect who yelled 'Allahu Akbar,' says he 'hates white people' in custody

Three people were killed after a man went on a shooting spree in downtown Fresno, California on Tuesday while shouting "God is great" in Arabic before he was tackled and taken into custody, police said.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said officers took Kori Ali Muhammad, 39, into custody in connection to the shootings. Dyer said Muhammad went by the nickname "Black Jesus" and shouted "Allahu Akbar" as police tackled him to the ground.

Dyer said at a news conference Muhammad told police that he hates white people, and has made posts against white people and the government on his Facebook page. All of the victims of the shooting rampage on Tuesday were white men, according to police.
