I think what happened more with Alias was that it was never really more than a cult hit. ABC never really put all that much into the show, and kept changing its timeslot, and forcing the producers to change the tone of the show. After the 2nd or 3rd season the ABC bigwigs forced them to change Alias from the long drownout story that they were telling to a more serialized show with no more of the big long storylines.

My guess is that she (Penelope Widmore) had some sort of transponder/signal attached to Desmond's boat for his race around the world. She did this so that she could keep track of him and find him if he ended up needing help. When he crashed during the race, the electromagnet on the island interefered with the signal and they lost contact with the boat. The magnet is/was also responsible for interfering w/ Desmond's boat navigation systems during the race, which caused him to crash. Once they ceased to push the button and Desmond made the choice to turn the key and "end it". That destroyed the magnet and allowed the signal to go out w/o interference. Those two guys were probably hired by Penelope Widmore to scan the entire globe and search for the signal. My guess is that they are at one of the poles, (i.e. Northern or Southern) to track it. I'm guessing they are where they are b/c of the Earth's magnetism as well, but I am not sure as to why. She has spent the past three or four years searching for Desmond, and now has located his boat. This should be a very interesting turning point. I can't wait until September.

My current Vash island theory is.. it's ancient center of healing power.. like the fabled fountain of youth. Remember they took that lady down under to a healer and he spoke of other places that can heal. But not everyone works at such and such places..

So going back in time what if the island is very very old and people have been trying to find it. Then DHARMA - Hanso finds island and builds the CVS (black light map)

DHARMA itself could be just a sham trying to claim "scientific research" for a natural

I am still fixated on the Heavy Water comments.. it's used for Nukes and MRI's .. and they had an episode where there was a sign MRI but it said "IMAGINING" instead of imaging.

That is way too much to go over. I like how the show is complicated and how you can't miss three weeks and pick right back up, but sometimes I think they try to put too much into what is essentially 45 mins of air time for a third of the year.

I won't ruin the fun by telling you everything, but according to the hidden stuff, the leaders of the Hanso Foundation are not as nice as they seem.

My theory is that the "Others" are against Hanso, and have "recruited" Jack, Sawyer and Kate to fight with them. Why else would they take them now, when they've had plenty of chances to do this in the past?

How they will "convince" them remains to be seen....

My wife thinks the whole Island was build as a way to keep Desmond away from Mr Widmoore's daughter. I think that's a little much, but I wouldn't put it past him that's he's heavily involved, and knows where Desmond is...

We started watching the season 2 DVD's over the weekend and I totally agree. I guess the issue I have with the middle dragging so bad is because those are the same shows they replayed over and over during the two month break last year.
