I've thought about this in the past, and with the start of expansion to the airport, should it be renamed?

And if so, to what?

In my opinion:

David Robinson International Airport (DRA)

Henry Cisneros InternatIonal Airport (CIA)

Goerge Gervin International Aiport (GGX)

Yeah I don't really care for the idea of renaming an airport after an athlete. Yes David has done a lot for this community but I don't think I'd name an airport after him...

Henry Cisneros?

Maybe Henry B. Gonzales or something, but not Cisneros.

Why does it need to be changed?

Orange County changed their name to John Wayne Airport, yet it's still referred to as Orange County and it's letters are SNA which stands for Santa Ana.

In short, don't change it at all.

ShoogarBear

How about renaming it to Louis Armstrong International Airport?

its fine the way it is, leave it alone.

Fuck Cisneros.

You dont need sports guys to name your airport after.

I agree that Henry B Gonzales did alot for this city and should be at the top of the list.

Of Course DRob can be considered...not only did he SAVE the one and ONLY major professional sports franchise this city has, but his contributions over the years are immeasureable...just the Carver Academy alone has helped countless youths...

i'd vote for either, but i must admit, i've gotten used to the SAT...so maybe we can rename it and keep those call letters...:tu

You can change the name of the airport but the three letter code will not change. Case in point....Intercontental Airport of Houston (IAH) is now named George Bush Intercontenal but its still coded as IAH.

To attract tourists and make us some money I think we should abuse
Davy Crocketts name...

Not that the other people mentioned where not good...

He was one of the reasons they held out so long .. may not of even be an airport with him and the others.

No Direct Flights airport. :tu :lol

And Mikey is right the three letter code have rarely anything to do with the name of the airport - it usually referes to the geographical location of the airport.

LAX - L.A.
LAS - Las Vegas
SFA - San Francisco
AMS - Amsterdam
LJU - Ljubljana
MUC - Muenchen
...

Actually the only exception I can think off is Paris: CDG - Charles De Gaulle airport.

No Direct Flights airport.

You don't want a direct flight....you want a nonstop flight...betcha didn't know there was a difference! :)

You can go nonstop all the way to Houston or Dallas...or if you are lucky, Memphis! :lol

There are some nonstop flights out of SA but not as many as people would like. That is what sucks about being so close to two major hubs.

More airline codes that don't make sense:

MCO-Orlando
MSY-New Orleans
BDL-Hartford
MCI-Kansas City
SDF-Louisville

Most are from the actual airport name (or former name) as opposed to the actual city.

The routing you don't want is Sioux City Iowa to Dickinson, North Dakota. Your tickets will say SUXDIK. :lol

FromWayDowntown

ORD -- Chicago O'Hare is another one that's odd

and

LGA -- New York LaGuardia is another one that is drawn from the person for whom the airport is named.

ORD is from Orchard Place, the facility's original name when the Army owned it.

how about the "One Flight a Day Airport"

because I only see one flight either coming or going every day, they could put a playground on the tarmac and the kids wouldnt be bothered at all.

now DFW, theres an airport!
