Agreed GSW had their big 3 playing in this game. Whenever you have your big 3 your always a legit threat to win games. One thing the Spurs got out of this game is they know how to counter the death squad lineup the Warriors throw out on the court.

Nice to have this win and keep the streak going (we will throw it anyway vs GS or OKC in one of the late games resting players...and rightfully so), but don't let us get cocky! B2B, No Iggy, No Bogut, No Ezelie, bad shooting night (mostly but not only because of our defense).
I believe we can beat them at full strengh and do so in a playoff series, but today was more about avoiding the feeling of "can we really even beat them?" than anything else.

The refs were consistently awful. Didnt make a difference imo.
Curry was 1/13? Thats gotta hurt. Great defense effort. I dont think Bogut will make any difference, its just a different option and we have enuf bigs to counter that.
Iggy could make a difference.
We really need to have an ISO player in our team. I said i didnt like Kawhi going hero ball. But now i understand.
We ISOed Danny Green like 3-4 times tonight and it was cringeworthy. Green didnt even look confident in his hail marys.
This matchup really needs our guards to step up.

Already seeing all of the Warrior excuses. Curry went 1-for-11 from three. The Warriors lost, period, and this was with Duncan sitting again. The hype is over and reality has set in for the Warriors. They lost the most important regular season game to now.
This loss will probably shake their confidence a little. They may finish maybe even 70-12 but won't get 73-9.

Yeah, this was a really nice win. It wasn't anyone on the team having a fluky performance, it was controlling tempo and taking Golden State completely out of what they wanted to do. Credit Golden State for still being right there to take this game, they're such a versatile team. But this is exactly what I want to see out of the Spurs against them. Get the ball into the post, keep the game slow, and make everyone but Curry have to beat you.
Man, you guys - you take a look at the final score and it looks like a March Madness NCAA score - 87-79...Throwback to nineties ball!!

I would say the spurs were able to do a good job at defending the 3 point shot along with being able to successfully counter the Warriors death squad. Factor in the refs were shitty and the spurs were still able to overcome it.

Tonight's game was not a big deal. The Spurs were supposed to win this game and they did. No reason to trash talk Golden State, nothing personal against them. The Spurs and Warriors are both 37-5 vs. the West, the only difference between these two teams is the Spurs lost 3 games on the road to the East. The Warriors have showed that they are not mature in big game situations and rely on chucking the three. You don't win big games by shooting 36 three pointers, especially if you're only going to make 9 of them. Again, nothing personal against the Warriors, but they are not that good and tonight proved it. No trash talking, no big celebrations, but the team I saw tonight looked like a very average team to me. It was not a big win.

Only held Curry to one of his worst shooting games ever.
LMA actually played great D for a 6'11' dude on Curry (switches) when Danny wasn't harassing him.
Klay missed shots when he posted up Patty/Porker but I wouldn't call it GREAT defense just not shitty like Harden. (Same will Curry bricking shots)

No one on our bench was a + on +/- and we still won.
+/- on a game basis doesn't seem particularly meaningful. But unlike most ST posters, I really like all of Pop's screwy lineups. I wish I were on the coaching staff to hear what he takes from them. But it is very cool to throw some guys on the court in some experimental or developmental lineup to move along the game clock, knowing we have guys to come in and beat the opponent's top lineup in most every game.

Which is quite unusual for our bench, tbh. One thing that I thought might be associated with this was that our bench normally plays a much more uptempo game than the starting line-up. Against the Warriors, that pace plays right into GS's game plan comfort level. Clearly one of the Spurs' game plan pieces tonight was to slow down the offense through iso plays with the SL, so the Warriors couldn't get into their rhythm so easily. Worked much better for the SL than it did for the bench, because the SL is accustomed to playing slower than the bench.

Yep, good call. Against the Dubs in the playoffs, our second unit will have to have the discipline to do that for an entire series. This was a good win, also, because we could rest Timmy since their primary bigs were out. We normally would not have that luxury against them or any other real contender.

Fools gold win.
GSW attempted 36 attempts on 3 vs Spurs 20 attempts.
Spurs had 16 turnovers.
The difference is the 25% GSW percentage from 3. That's an anomaly and isn't going to happen. If GSW shot at same percentage as Spurs... 38%, the would have won by 6 points.
I also wonder why Spurs did not keep Butler. He would have been useful in this switching defense. I cannot see how Bonner is of any use against the Dubs.

Since we're playing the anomaly game, if the Spurs had shot their normal percentage and had their normal number of turnovers they'd have won by over 20 points. Those two stats by the Spurs have far less to do with opponent defense than the Dubs' three point percentage, as nobody has defended the Warriors at the arc like that in the last two seasons.

The turning point of the whole game was when Speights got called for that moving screen and Kerr got pissed. They are so used to getting away with those shits, that he got mad when they were called for it. That's when they knew they were in trouble when the refs didn't allow them to set illegal picks all night. Without illegal picks, GS aren't a great team, they are a good team.

I think it's strange that we didn't see more backdoor cuts from GS. They had great success with that in the first game exposing the lack of communication on defense. I guess that's Kerr holding something back for later.

Yes great win, as O_V said we shoot our normal % and have our normal TO's we win by much more. Still laughing at those saying 'only by 8.' That is plenty under any circumstance and probably what we should expect to see in the play-offs unless someone goes nuclear and someone raises the white flag.

He needs to be more decisive. Whether it's driving to his favorite spots, making a move before the double team, etc ... But he also needs to be involved early. The last 2 games he really hasn't been. Against Portland they were running the Parker-LMA two man game. Against GS it was LMA and Diaw in the post abusing the smaller guy. Smart options of course but Leonard is wasted standing on the 3 point line or used strictly as a screener. Run a play for him, get him moving without the ball a little. Some of that is on Leonard himself and some is on Pop.
Last night I think he let the refs get in his head a little too. Something he's avoided most the season.

I think people here have Stockholm Syndrome when it comes to the Warriors especially after that 30 point loss. It's like they have been conditioned to expect the spurs have no chance against this team. Warriors have definitely have had somewhere around 7-10 escape wins this year. They should have lost to OKC, and lucked out in the 3 games they played the Clippers. So fuck this bs about how the Spurs were lucky to win.
