Pistons actually match up decently against the Cavs. They have an athletic big in Drummond who can control the rebounding at both ends. They have a scoring point guard who will force Kyrie to defend (unless they switch off him, and actually both teams may switch guards defensively, Kyrie on Pope and Reggie on Smith/Shumpert). And they have two forwards with size and mobility who can take turns on LeBron.

That said, I do think the Cavs take the series. For each game, the Pistons success will likely depend on their perimeter shooting and their bench. They're not a good shooting team but if they have a couple guys get hot from three point range in a given game, they have a chance. Their bench has been erratic and inconsistent most of the season. If they get some production from a few unexpected guys, it also helps their cause.

The Pistons have a legitimate shot at stealing a couple games. But Cavs are clearly the better team with two guys in LeBron and Kyrie who could each drop 40+ on the Pistons in a given game. I also think Reggie Jackson could single-handedly lose a couple games for the Pistons when he decides to go hero ball late in close games.

Cavs in 6.

Would be a bad sign for Cleveland because it would mean Irving or Love is hurt (or both). If they aren't, there should not be a reason for James to have that stat line.

he shoulda got moved this year. cavs shoulda moved him to the hawks for pieces. since lebron was drafted, nothing has led me to believe that the cavs are a competent FO.

lebron w/ chris paul would be a tough team. lebron w/ westbrook would be wild.

Kevin Love coming though big time right now. DET has multiple forwards they are going to throw at Kevin, so it's really a critical match up.

Some of this bench play is fluky by Detroit, though. I want to see how Drummond fares.

DPG21920
04-17-2016, 03:00 PM
There's definitely some fluky shooting (percentage wise), but it's a crisp and engaged game. It's definitely a "playoff" level. Fun, fun game so far and this is how I was hoping the East would go with all teams jumbled up.

KCP: 30% 3-point shooter(bad)
Morris: 36%(not bad, but nothing special)
Johnson: 31%(bad)

313
04-17-2016, 03:10 PM
I was talking about from the 3 point line. Both are shooting under 31% from 3 during the regular season.
Ah yeah, my bad. That would be great for Detroit if they kept it up though

will_spurs
04-17-2016, 03:15 PM
Pistons are ready and fearless. That's the right kind of mindset for an 8th seed. Of course they're shooting twice better from 3 than in the regular season (!) but the Cavs big 3 is also playing huge and the Cavs are getting a lot of calls in their favor. It seems quite balanced.

DPG21920
04-17-2016, 03:16 PM
DET would be a top 2 team in the East if they were a good 3PT shooting team, so obviously with them doing well there in the first half, they look great. Is that sustainable? Probably not, but it's interesting and the offense is getting good looks and match up well.

DPG21920
04-17-2016, 03:17 PM
Luckily for Lebron Kyrie/Love are healthy, but because dayum, they are top heavy from a scoring perspective.

http://www.nba.com/2016/news/features/steve_aschburner/04/14/east-series-1-2016-playoffs-first-round-cleveland-cavaliers-vs-detroit-preview/index.html

Reconfigured according to coach and president Van Gundy's successful blueprint in Orlando, the Pistons sank a franchise-record 740 3-pointers this season, topping last season's 703 and blowing away the franchise's pre-Van Gundy mark of 582 from way back in 1996-97. Detroit was 19-6 in games when it made 11 or more 3-pointers. The Pistons shot a mediocre 34.2 percent from the arc, worse than Cleveland's middle-of-the-pack defense against those (34.5 percent).

They're probably banking on their defense. It's a perfect matchup for them defensively. If they can play the expected defensive intensity from them and shot above 37..they would be tough to beat.

What a Parkersque peformance in the last 2 minutes by Jackson. Going away from what works and relying on shitty dribbles.

I do think that stan Van Gundy made a horrible mistake by not bringing back Drummond after the 2 minute mark. They couldnt get any decent shots once Baynes got in because the guys guarding the 2-3 were just staying on their man with baynes having roll zero gravity.

I also think Reggie Jackson could single-handedly lose a couple games for the Pistons when he decides to go hero ball late in close games.

Popovich is my favorite coach. He not only exposes bullshit, he wins through the adversity of terrible officiating. Stan has yet to win it all but he sure exposes bullshit.

Detroit is a Kevin Durant from winning a title. They need a major scorer.

Typical JR Smith. They can't panic. I expect him to come down to earth or his team to deny him the ball in the 2nd half.

Watching this game for Stan vs Lebron. Gotta love SVG. I couldn't care less about my bracket if Stan owns Lebron.

Pistons need to be a bit more disciplined on defense. They are taking their eyes off Lebron to help.

Reggie is obviously talented, but man, he has a lot of bad habits. I don't agree with the maturity part, but he's talented. Drummond is so limited on offense even outside of his FT's. It's crazy to me. He's not anywhere close to the offensive player a guy like Dwight was and Dwight was/is limited.

Drummond...you can't be the worst FT shooter of all time and be a superstar. Sorry. You can be pretty bad, like 50% bad. But not 35% on the season and 3/14 in a playoff game. That's gonna bar you from superstar status, I'm afraid.

I normally don't find people's comments here funny. It is mostly rape and gay bashing homophobic back and forth. But, this made me laugh out loud.

Missed the Cavs and Pistons. I was done with basketball for the evening after sitting through the entire rockets and warriors game, where the rockets continued to look like a 12-80 team. I am not a fan of either team, but I was hoping for a more competitive team to show up on the court and not that failed marriage of a lineup that draped itself across the court that was the rockets.

Sucks about the Pistions, I actually liked the way they play bball up there.
