I never get very excited anymore when the Olympics come on. But I always seem to spend one or two hours watching and enjoying them anyway.
Anyone watching at this point?

Was cool to see Phelps and company win the gold in the 4x100.
Also checked out some beach volleyball and some gymnastics. Also water polo.

And if something is for a medal, I'll usually check it out.

Anyway, not bad entertainment at all.

I'll check out more of the team sports as they start to mean more.

And like the female 400m WR holder Marita Koch he is all about "sustained speed". Koch was a WR holder at 200m also. Her ability to maintai/sustain a higher % of her max velocity is why she holds the record. That ability is also why WVN broke the record. And the guy who held the WR Michael Johnson was also a 200m WR holder.

At his age I do see WVN being histories first sub 43.00 down the road.

That is why the record he broke was held by a former WR holder in the 200m and the current American 200m record holder Michael Johnson.. The womens 400m WR is held by a former WR 200m sprinter, Marita Koch.

The great Tommie Smith rarely ran the 400m so when he met 400m stud Lee Evans in 1966 at San Jose, how did he beat him (WR time), yep, his superior 200m speed. Smith and Evans on the same Spartan track team.

In 1964, 200m gold medalist Henry Carr (had anchored Arizona St;s WR 4x1 team) was simply given the job (hadn't ran the 400m at the trials) of anchoring our Oly 4x4 team. He didn't disappoint cooking a smooth 44.6 split. He was there because of that 200m speed.

You;ve seen Usain Bolt, he's tall and has that monster stride. Now check out the great Tommie Smith breaking the 200m WR in an amazing 19.5, on a dirt track. This was considered the greatest track and field mark ever at that time.

Wayde Van Neikerk is histories only sub 10.00/20.00/43.10 sprinter. He is that guy who can hit the 200m of a 400 in 20.5ish, and then maintain/sustain a huge % of his max velocity. He decellerates at a slower pace than anyone running today. That is the key to 400m sprinting.

The formula is two times a guys 200m PR +4

19.94 + 19.94 + 4....43.88

As we can see he's even far beyond that.

He along with Bolt were the locks of these Olympics. Both would had to have fallen down to lose.
