I just can't stand it when anyone and everyone goes to ridiculous lengths to cheer for a team, generally from large markets. The Cubs are likeable enough, but this buzz reminds me too much of the love the Warriors and Seacucks receive; good for their large fanbases but annoying for the rest of us.

I kind of have mixed feelings when it comes to Cubs fans. On one hand it is annoying how much attention they get and how many celebrity fans they have- almost like the Red Sox of the Midwest. On the other hand there a ton of dyed-in-the-wool Cubs fans that stick with their team through thick and thin. Those people deserve respect. And I've been to Wrigley Field and Wrigleyville with Tribe gear and was treated great. The "Curse" talk always annoyed me, maybe because I've had to hear that crap as a Cleveland fan. That's one thing I'll always give White Sox fans credit for- they went 88 years without winning a World Series but you never heard any "Curse" talk out of them.

Anyway, if they win I won't begrudge them. They'll deserve their day in the sun. Hopefully that day will be in another year, though.

It would be cool to see the Indians pull this out after all of the injuries to their rotation, and Mike Napoli is my favorite ex-Ranger. Also, it feels like the Cubs have been crowned since April. Not that I have anything against them, it's just been Cubs, Cubs, Cubs all season long.

That kinda makes it even more impressive that they've made it this far with relative ease. We've seen the anointed teams fall flat on their faces many times in baseball, the Nationals in particular have made a habit of this.

Great game from the Tribe.

That said, the Cubs won a small battle by forcing Miller to throw 53 pitches. The Cubs have to jump all over Bauer tomorrow. He should be rusty not having thrown a full game in like 3 weeks. Obviously can't let the Indians get to Miller with any kind of lead.

Maddon also made a stupid decision batting Schwarb 5th. Guy hasn't seen major league pitching for months and you slot him in at a clean up spot? The decision was odd especially with the Miller factor. You just knew Kyle was going to get a big AB against Miller at some point, and you'd much rather have the righty Baez in that spot. I know he had a double and a key walk, but during the walk, he looked fooled. Naturally the top of the 8th came down to 2 men on/2 outs/Kyle up to bat in a 3 run game :lol If Maddon moved Baez up, he's up now in that situation and this game might've been different.

Still like the Cubs in the series. Their starting pitching and bats are better. Tribe is fuckin' scrappy, though.

In the weeks after the AS break when the Indians were struggling a bit- particularly their other starters- and trying to hold off the Tigers and Royals in the AL Central, Kluber gave them one money performance after another and more than anyone else kept them on track. He is the definition of an ace, the definition of a stopper. This is the type of outing we've come to expect from him.

And can Bauer pitch at (this) level? I'm not talking about working it out around 3 runs given up. Can he get them into the initial dugout at 0? That's why home court advantage is no biggie in MLB. I'd much rather have firsties, then lasties---especially at this juncture. There is no trust in Bauer, because there is no knowledge. The Cubs are salivating. I'd have bit the booger and went to Tomlin. This is how Roberts got it into the ditch by beholding to Media and the "Idiots Guide to Managing MLB."

You're to look at 4 victories. Be the first one there. Let Tomlin pitch at home where he'll benefit. If it works you're 3-0 and you can send Bauer out there, Christ, you could send anybody on out there then.

And he's talking about how he was just glad to get that first one, before the second game even started. WTF is wrong with him? Christ, think that, if you must, but, don't say it aloud. And of course Media is just tickled pink with such an utterance. "He's right, you have to have that split. He's accomplished that." When will they ever learn Media is not their fucking friend?

They just need to win Kluber's next start, force it back to Cleveland, and hope tight booty holes do the Cubs in. Tribe is overmatched on paper.

Taking nothing away from Cleveland, but the Cubs don't have many weaknesses.

I'm not a Trevor Bauer fan either, but the reality is Tito doesn't have a ton of options. I would've started Ryan Merritt in Game 2 but that wouldn't have been a risk-free choice either. I'm fully behind saving Tomlin for Game 3 in any case because of his bat. Kluber is going to make three starts if this series goes long enough, what else do you want?

Look, this was always going to be an uphill climb. The Cubs have the best team in baseball. The Indians weren't even supposed to get by the Red Sox. Tito is doing the best he can with the hand he's been dealt. He'll have Tomlin and a fresh bullpen for Game 3. We'll see what happens.

He's looking at 7 games across 10 days. That's standard by-the-book strategy, Joe. You can't do that here. Like you said he doesn't have the horses to line up with Maddon. So, don't line up with him. After 1-0 jump the bastards and try to get to 3-0 so it's over. Not over-over, but, over. Don't look down the line 10 days. Bring Tomlin and if successful right back to Kluber, no matter the day count. Don't look at it as 7-9 at that point. "Just get me to the 5th." Then go tag team Miller/Allen to the end. He relaxed at 1-0, skinnin' & grinnin' with Media carrying water to him. Wrong. He should have poured everything he had into 2 & 3. Take a game off is a mistake, a lethal one for his team. And he' got to run. He's making the same mistake Roberts/Dodgers made. Dancin' around 1st & 2nd, playin' hotsy totsy while the clock is running. But, frankly, his runners ain't prepared. They're constantly returning to base at delivery. They didn't do their homework. That's on him. They had a fucking week.

Maddon had no problem cutting Heyward's throat in front of the nation. None at all. It's nothing personal, it's strictly business.

Kluber will win game 4 and ensure another game in Cleveland. I expect Tito to run mercilessly on Lester, who I think is due for a big meltdown. But as Thread said, he needs to follow through with it.

But again, this is baseball, where the choke factor plays a much larger role than in any other sport, so tonight's game isn't in the books yet. Anything can happen.

Edit. Kluber will be facing Lackey in Game 4. This actually works in the Indians' favor. Kluber/Indians will be favored in that game. Win that and then it's Lester in Game 5. Lester is one of the all time great post-season pitchers, but I think the baserunning shenanigans are getting to him and could prompt him into a collapse.

Maddon seriously needs to drill into his team to RUN HARD on every batted ball. They got away with it twice, but now it just might've cost them the series (gotta face Kluber and Miller twice now. Good luck). Soler has a 90% chance of an inside the park homerun if he sprinted head first out of the box like we all were taught in fuckin' Little League. But no. He assumed a foul ball or caught ball and just lollygagged down to first before turning on the jets.

Indians pitching was pretty masterful, though. They didn't miss their key spots all night. Kept the ball low in the zone all night in a windy Wrigley. And when they needed to go high in the zone, they hit it. Cubs are an exceptional bounce back team, so tomorrow is going to be interesting.

Awful game from the Cubs thus far. Homerun swings during every AB. Errors. Their pitchers constantly behind in the count. The way they're approaching hitting in this game is the equivalent of taking contested jumpshots in basketball, whereas the Indians are executing their offense.

Yeah. I was hoping that inexperience would do them against the Dodgers. They played like this in the two games they lost against the Dodgers, but then they went back in the tank, and started executing again. Working counts, drawing walks, and shrinking the zone. They lead the league in walks for a reason. But over the last two games, they are incapable of laying off bad pitches.

They did have some big bats- McGriff, Justice, Klesko, Chipper Jones- but they also had guys like Mark Lemke and Jeff Blauser that knew how to do the little things. CN made the excellent point that 3 was enough for Bauer, he'd been thru the Cubs once. He'd "won." Lift him there for Merritt and then cobble it together the rest of the way twixt Miller/Allen.

That there wasn't an appearance by Miller was Francona's fault. His and his alone.

Asking for Miller and Allen to combine for six innings is ridiculous. If it were the 5th/6th inning, sure, but there's no way they win on the backs of those two throwing 45-50 pitches each.

Tito can't set up the bullpen the way he wants if he only pulls his starter after three innings. He needed five out of Bauer in order to set things up the way he likes and he didn't get it. That's on Trevor Bauer.

Things still look good for the Indians. It isn't as if the Cubs had this huge breakout performance like in Game 4 of the NLCS. They still haven't done anything against anyone other than Bauer and Bauer is done for the series. Tribe is going to be at home with their two best starters and a bullpen that's loaded for bear. Everything sets up for them.

Yep. They still haven't solved your bullpen. But they were taking much better swings and approaches last night (aside from Baez, who is still mentally scrambled at the plate). They just have to hope Tomlin folds under the pressure and jump on him quick. Arrieta can also be shaky, so he's by no means a lock to limit to the Indians.

Think it's a 50/50 game. Maybe Cubs go into it a very, very slight favorite.

But, that's my point. A second go round is indicative. Use that indicator to essentially pull the rug out from under Cub's batter at 1-0. When you start Bauer, you're not starting someone who fits the mold. Your success was with the run scored and him pitching a shutout. Do not permit him to melt down. You won. It was over. Not over over, but over. Let Merritt, or, Shaw erect the bridge to Miller/Allen and end it.

There's no way he was ever going to wear out all their pitchers. Maybe if it was Game 7. But that early in the series? No way.

Francona should have started the guy that the Cubs hadn't seen yet, not the proven choke artist. But he got too caught up in "old-school" thinking.

I would have started Merritt too, mainly because I can't stand Trevor Bauer, his Jay Cutler face and his Twitter trash-talk while he shits himself on the mound. But what's done is done.

If the Cubs come back and win this series, give them credit. They'll have proven themselves the better club. But we've still got one more to play after tonight.

One guy I don't blame is Tomlin. He's a bulldog. But there's a reason he gave up 36 home runs and pitched himself out of the rotation in August. If he doesn't have it he can get shelled and he didn't have it tonight, simple as that.

That was his Game 7.

Just do it like this:::Before the 1st Indians batter goes to the plate top of the 4th, tell Kluber to go down there. "I don't want to call down. Go down there and tell Andrew to warm up, the 4th is his. Tell everybody else that all hands are on deck. And Corey, don't come back up here."

Francona was done in by vanity, tradition & habit.

But, he "won." He got you to 18 outs. You had the run. Don't make him win that game again, and again and again.

You can't throw that up there hoping to surprise them. That's not MLB hitters. That's why they're MLB hitters. That's the beauty of the profession.

CN has already said it but I'll say it again: if you don't trust your starter to go more than three innings you shouldn't start him. If you want to blame Tito for something, blame him for starting Bauer in the first place. Ryan Merritt had one major-league start going into the postseason and he went four-and-a-third in Game 5 of the ALCS. He didn't fall over with his legs in the air on the second trip through Toronto's lineup.

That's a stupid plan because it's not actually Game 7. They could have still lost, and then they'd be looking at two more games with gassed pitchers. They've already been pitching Kluber, Bauer and Miller on short rest as it is. It's just an insanely high-risk strategy because if you lose, then you've just conceded the entire series in Game 5.

No, Joe, Bauer succeeded on Francona's call. Francona failed Bauer thru his own vanity, and the tradition of the game.

You're clashing Indians pitcher against pitcher like it's worthy or relevant. It's not. They're each an entity.

Bauer won the point. He got them to 18 outs and if you're smart and directed you don't let the Cubs get a second bite of that unbitten apple. Shove Miller down their throat then and tell him:::"When you want out come to the dugout and get me. No problem, Andrew. If I have to come get you, it will because you failed me."

Well, it's true. Look, Cully, I've been a fan for a long time and when a team loses everyone wants to blame this guy and that guy- and hell, I'm doing it here with Bauer- but at the end of the day, when you get beat it's usually because your opponent is just flat-out better. If the Cubs win this series it'll be because they're a better club than the Indians. Simple as that.

It was there for the taking, for the brazen attempt. Bauer won, don't you understand that, Joe? He was never going to pitch a lot of innings with a low ERA. That is not him! So, Francona gets 3 innings at 0 and the run, but, he's vane and selfish and a big shot. Wants more, "I'll show them." So, he leaves him out there for a second bite. 15 innings later he's fucked. This has got trace to do with the Cubs and everything to do with Francona and his failure as manager. Let him own it. He earned it.

Cubs are taking much better swings now and finally executing. They ain't coming out of their shoes chopping wood like they were in Games 3-4. Addison Russell especially.

Indians got a small victory tonight by forcing Maddon to go to Chapman for 20 pitches. I also like Corey over Hendricks. I think Hendricks' lack of velocity will be his downfall. He relies on pinpoint location more than anyone, and he'll be under more pressure than any player in any sport in recent memory. I see him leaving a lot of 88mph fastballs fat over the plate. Weather will be relatively warm, so the ball's gonna jump off the bat like it did tonight.

I like the Indians 7 runs to 5.

Not a huge baseball fan, but this series has been exciting. How apropos that two teams that haven't won a title in collectively, 174 years have to settle it in a do-or-die game 7. But man, the Cubs have a core that looks like it'll be around a few years.

If history is any indication the Cubs should be favored tonight:

- In WS history a total of five clubs have come back from 3-1 deficits to win: the 1925 Pirates (vs. Washington), 1958 Yankees (vs. Milwaukee), 1968 Tigers (vs. St. Louis), 1979 Pirates (vs. Baltimore) and 1985 Royals (vs. St. Louis)

- Only three clubs have come back to win Game 7 after losing a 3-1 lead: the 1912 Red Sox (vs. New York), 1967 Cardinals (vs. Boston) and 1972 A's (vs. Cincinnati.)

Gotta bet on Kluber. Hendricks is an ace, but Kluber has better stuff and isn't as control reliant as Hendricks, which is a huge advantage in a pressure cooker game like this. I also don't know if the Cubs have truly solved their curveball problem yet. That said, it's Kluber's 3rd start in the series, so fatigue could be a factor. But funny enough, he's best when facing teams for the 3rd time.

Gotta also bet on the Indians pen.

I think both aces will be a bit shaky. I see something like the Indians holding onto a 4-3 lead as both teams go to the pen. Indians tack on a couple of insurance runs against Edwards, Wood, Montgomery or whomever. Cubs then rally, but fall short. 6-4, 7-5 type of final score.
