Yeah but does another team sign him or does he go back to FC Barcelona or somewhere else in Europe and end his career there?

Spurs have been big on Brewer in the past. Wonder if he is a buy out candidate. He's a good defender, but probably not a good enough shooter to beat out Anderson, which is saying something.

After playing for the min Jones will want to go somewhere he can get a lot of minutes and get paid in the summer. This is the very reason he might be waived by NO. There's no way he'd want to sign for the Spurs.

Bad news for us in our race for second place if Bogut goes to Houston tbh..

They would've addressed their 2 biggest needs, which was a ball handler in Lou when Harden is out and a defensive center in Bogut.

What if Dedmon and/or Lee leave this summer? Wouldn't it be good to have some insurance? Bogut would be solid off the bench. Also, Dedmon has been great this season, but we really don't know how that would translate to the playoffs.

02-23-2017, 04:57 PM
I think people are reading too much into the Spurs' interest in Bogut. They obviously don't have a rotation spot to offer, so what this probably is, is due diligence. He's obviously significantly better than Anthony, so they'll likely reach out just for the hell of it, but they have to know he ends up with the Celtics or Cavaliers.

JuneJive
02-23-2017, 04:58 PM
Did some digging in the CBA FAQ...

If D-Will gets claimed, the other team has to pay him his current salary.
What was bugging me was, why doesn't, say Denver, claim him and mess up Cavs plan. Now I know. Nobody wants to waste that kind of money.

Also, the waiver process occurs after both waive or buyout phase.

Chillen

Can someone refresh us on how contracts off waivers work? Is it always the team with most money that wins the claim? Can a team offer multiple years, or just the length of the remaining years of the players current contract?

The player stays "on waivers" for 48 hours (including weekends and holidays), during which time other teams may claim the player and assume his contract. If no team has claimed the player before the end of the waiver period (which is always 5:00 PM Eastern Time), he "clears waivers." The player's contract is terminated and he becomes a free agent. The only way to terminate a contract early (other than with an ETO -- see question number 59) is through the waiver process.1

A team can claim a player on waivers only if one of the following is true:

The team is far enough under the salary cap to fit the player's entire salary.
The team has a Disabled Player exception for at least the player's salary (see question number 25), and the player is on the last season of his contract.
The team has a trade exception for at least the player's salary (see question number 85).
The player has a minimum salary contract (one or two seasons at the minimum salary, with no bonuses of any kind).

If a team makes a successful waiver claim, it acquires the player and his existing contract, and pays the remainder of his salary -- the waiving team is relieved of all responsibility for the player. There is a fee of $1,000, payable to the league office, for claiming a player on waivers. If more than one team tries to claim a player on waivers, the team with the worst record gets him.

Deron might be worse than before but he is still effective as a distributor. If he would be added now he would automatically be the best pg on the team in terms of points (13) and assists (7). And Second best in per (15), behind patty (16).
He will be a clear upgrade over Tony at least statistically.

I think most of us would like to see us waive Anthony and sign a backcourt player but, if patfo are just determined to have that 15th spot be a front court guy I'd be interested in kicking the tires on Larry Sanders instead if we can sign him for a cheap two year deal with next year being a team option. He would not help much this year but he'd be cheap insurance for next season if Dedmon bolts.

He is talented so it's not crazy that chinook and some other fellows wanted him. But you can't get fat in your contract year. He did it with Boston and then did it again in Toronto.

He has nobody but himself to blame. Lost a shit load of money in a market that is giving tons of money to mediocre talent.

The first question is, do you think the Spurs are actually after him? If so, I assume they want to stay big at all times and go the opposite of small ball. I assume his defense is still better than Gasol's or has he dropped off this season? That might also be a reason they want him. They may want a defensive presence on the floor at all times so the guards can be more aggressive defensively. They also might want those so called 'screens' of his.

Edit : Just thought of another reason. If they sign Bogut and play him minutes at the expense of Pau, that could cause Pau to opt out freeing up more money for the Spurs. Not sure if the Spurs would do something like that, though.

I just don't think Bogut is a very good match-up against the teams we'd be most concerned about (GS, Cleveland, LAC), and it'd just give Pop another person to potentially play over Dedmon, which I don't want to happen.

He was making a difference defensively against Cavs last year in the finals until he got hurt. He's another big you can use to pound KD and Green when GSW tries to get away with playing them at the 5. And you keep him away from other teams.

Bogus...nevermind. Against the Cavs he averaged 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 12 minutes. The Warriors were outscored by 9 points per 100 possessions with him on the court. He can bang with bigs. Maybe that's all he's good for at this point in his career.

Why would he want Anthony's spot in the rotation?

i never said he would.

if he did sign with us he would have a bigger role than joel though. spurs are in contention for him for a reason.

lee and bogut would be motivated as fuck against the warriors. if they were on the floor together against them, their corporate knowledge would not be a negative for us.

spurs don't have that "enforcer" type. bogut would definitely add physicality.

I think Bogut would be good just for the Intel on GSW.

Exactly, between him and Lee. Bogut ain't afraid to do some hard screens on the dubs

If we'll face the Clippers in the PO there is a point about bringing him in, if we don't there is simply doesn't make sense.

Sooooo if the Spurs sign anotha big, who loses playing time? Dedmon??? He's playing the most consistent of all the bigs... We know the Spurs ain't gonna cut LMA or Gasol's mins. Fuck Bogut... sign Matt Barnes an call it ready for the playoffs. Split Simmons an Ginobili's mins to have Simmons ready too.

Yeah man. I'd like Bogut if we didn't have one of those three. He doesn't put the Spurs over the top.

You don't think the Spurs have a chance to make the Finals? I do. Not saying it's likely but it's possible. The thing that sucks for the Spurs is if they beat the Warriors they have to be a stacked Cavs team with LeBron to.
