I don't see Kawhi winning it. It'll likely be Westbrook.

Well if it does go down like this really wish they would've announced the results during the playoffs like always...would've been helluva debate created.

Kawhi keeps adding to his game. Other teams have decided that the way to play him is to blitz him out on the perimeter when he has the ball, and force him to pass to someone else. Recently he's been throwing those rapid-fire crossovers and between the leg passes. He's done those things before, but this is much more refined and much quicker.

Memphis took it a step further and brought full court pressure and aggressive traps/double-teams at him. Kawhi did exactly what a great player is supposed to do when defenders over-commit. He went at them hard and forced them to foul him. Nobody would have gotten their panties in a bind if Westbrook or Harden did that and got to the FT line 17 times - it happens all the time. Some people are bitching because Kawhi shot that many, but that's because they aren't used to seeing him do it. But those whistles last night were a result of him being aggressive (and good) and forcing the zebras to make calls.

It's almost like we've seen Kawhi evolve - again. I was expecting to see him bring something new after this offseason. But to me it looks like he got pissed about the blitz coverage he was getting and leveled up. If he really has stepped up that part of his game, he's the MVP. Whether he gets the votes this year or not.

They're going to pick Westbrook and then everyone's going to be embarrassed about it.

Jalen Rose just called Kawhi the second best player in the league (presumably behind LeBron). The chorus is growing....

Did anybody hear the comments coming out after the game? One said that the MVP race "might have to be re-opened". Shaq saying that Kawhi is his favorite player.

I thought it was decided, and it still probably is. But if Kawhi could keep having these kinds of performances, and the Spurs could somehow win this series without Tony Parker, and kick Hardon's ass? It might still be in play. At the least, the voting has probably gotten a lot tighter. I think Kawhi is going to be second on just about every ballot where he's not first. If enough first place votes go to Harden? It could be a lot closer than we thought.

This thing Kawhi did tonight was... I think FkLA said it was "video game stuff". A stat line like that just doesn't happen in the playoffs in the real world. I said at the beginning of the Memphis series that I think Kawhi may have just evolved again. I think it's official - he has. That shouldn't get lost in the big win, and the Tony injury stories.

If someone was going 13/16 against me in NBA 2K you know what I do? I turn off my PS4.

Voting is already over. All the votes are in - they're just not revealing the results until after the postseason. So no, unfortunately none of this matters in terms of changing the MVP outcome.

It's already done? Well shit. That comment made it sound like they votes hadn't been cast yet. You can tell how much I care about the awards. They're still going to delay it until June, so they can milk it as a separate event?

There's another award show I won't be watching.

They voted prior to the postseason starting so all this won't really affect the voting. Stupid but I guess they wanted to keep it strictly a regular season award. If Kawhi keeps this up, while shutting down Harden a lot of media guys who voted for him over Kawhi are going to feel like real dumbasses though. 13/16 on one end while forcing Harden to shoot 3/17 is as dominant as it gets, tbh.

Makes everything less fun as well. Nobody cares about the awards after your team lost in the playoffs. Besides people discussing player resumes of course. Such a stupid move by the NBA.

Takes away a lot of fun factors as well. Like watching if the MVP can deliver or not ala curry last year. An mvp losing in the 2nd round, wont really care much about the award in june etc2

I feel it takes the excitement out of the playoffs that you normally get when you announce the MVP in front of the fans. Also you get to see what a player is made of during the playoffs when that award is announced. There is added pressure and scrutiny to perform. All that is taken away due to this stupid awards show.

What I took from that comment is that Kawhi didn't win it. Hence the need to re-open the voting. I mean, based on the premise that they know who won.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm just laughing because everybody but me knew they had already cast their votes. :lol

Honestly, I thought the voting was open, and that's why Pop has been campaigning for Kawhi recently. Damn, it really doesn't make sense to start the campaign AFTER the election.

Maybe it just was to give Kawhi a moral boost? Not that he needs it but in case of... Also to make voters look bad? We'll never know :lol

I agree w/ the majority in here. Even Marc Stein wasn't pleased w/ the idea of revealing the awards after the Season. But we need to remember that contrary to other Sports, the players are NBA's product/face. And while I hate it, I can see some logic behind all this shit. I mean, after all the trolling that took place after last year when the 1st unanimous MVP failed to deliver and win the Championship? It was BAD, it's still BAD. Plus after winning 73 RS games and choking a 3-1 lead in the Finals they felt the need to do something about it. That's my theory.

In reality, it takes a lot of pressure and weight off the players' shoulders. But fuck that tbh. I know it sounds selfish, but as a Fan? I want to see the players wrinkle, die or succeed from that same pressure.
