Also, Parker needs to stop ball dominating, stop force feeding Aldridge, stop hogging it away from Kawhi. GIVE IT TO KAWHI and let him control the offense with the ball
Passing the ball to LMA for an ISO is losing basketball.

When you're a scrub you really have no reason to be scared. No one gives a fuck about you. You have no legacy on the line. It's like Horry used to say..."If I miss the shot you're all going to blame the stars" :lol
lol, Horry was a legend. He's the only guy that play on an opposing team that ripped the Spurs hearts out on more than one occasion and I never hated him. I still liked the guy. I think he had a great attitude about the way he went about the game in general.

Wow. Mills has finally shown up big in a pressure playoff game. His lack of defense towards the end of the 3rd is the reason we had to fight this hard for it, but it looks like he's redeeming himself. Defense has got to be better by everyone, though. Yes, even Kawhi.

04-25-2017, 10:41 PM
I was wondering why Pop wanted both Parker and Mills on the court at the same time.
These two can't guard anyone.
I am guessing that the reason Mills shot so well was that Parker was passing the ball right where Mills needed it.
No he was completely benched healthy. It was most definitely a benching.

It's Lee or bust apparently.
Final nail in Deadman's Spurs coffin?
I wish Lee was taller. Pau is a badass off the bench. It's a shame the Spurs don't have a legit starting big man who is legitimately big. But Lee's toughness and effort go a long way. Dedmon looked like he might step up, earlier in the season - but he never did.

Final nail in Deadman's Spurs coffin?
I don't know yet, but Pop hates guys with stupid fouls and mistakes.
He entrusted Deadman as a starter when he was in a very deep bench in Orlando before... there are definitely positives defensively and with his hustle, but he didn't develop that much and truth is his minutes had been declining ever more in this series. He can opt in if he wants to take a chance on himself and his development. Spurs need bodies and I think he may develop a bit more. He had some flashes in the regular season.
Also, he may still be useful in other rounds. Lee will get exposed sometimes.
I'd actually be more worried about Pau Gasol tbh. 15 mill man playing only 16 minutes on a pivotal must win game 5.

It shouldn't be a steal, even on the road.
I don't think people realize how good MEM offense has been since Game 3. If MEM played like this all year they would be a top 3 team. They are going HAM and its Conley (expected) and other guys (definitely not expected).
Good news is, even with great shooting tonight, MEM was down double digits most of the game. Spurs "others" were 2-20 from 3 in MEM and went to OT.

I mean Patty is not going to go 7-10 with 5-7 from 3 every game... there are concerns for sure...
Spurs should not need that many 3's from Mills if MEM is not fluking out themselves. Point is when Spurs play well they blow MEM out. When MEM plays great and SA plays awful SA usually still hanging around.

Phew
This.
Glad they didn't blow this, if so I was gonna login and start ranting at Pop :lol
what a tough series. Fizdale's whininess makes me even more pissed when Spurs are down.

I was wondering why Pop wanted both Parker and Mills on the court at the same time.
These two can't guard anyone.
I am guessing that the reason Mills shot so well was that Parker was passing the ball right where Mills needed it.
True. Green could've provided the same 3-point barrage but with elite D as well. Just Poop trying to prove his detractors wrong by stubbornly sticking to his favoured defensively-challenged lineup to close out the game. Luckily it didn't blow up in his face this time around.

I wish Lee was taller. Pau is a badass off the bench. It's a shame the Spurs don't have a legit starting big man who is legitimately big. But Lee's toughness and effort go a long way. Dedmon looked like he might step up, earlier in the season - but he never did.
Deadman comes up with some seriously athletic rebounds, and he has remarkable ability to switch onto smalls and guard them on the perimeter. When he got the starting nod, I thought he would become a solid starter for this team. But he just continued to commit those dumb fouls. He and Simmons are such teasers.

Memphis' shooters have made way more than their share of circus shots. Nothing you can do about that. I thought they were better than their record. But you're right - if they shot like this all the time, they wouldn't have been a 7 seed.
One thing I'm sick of watching is Memphis' big coming out like they are hedging, but extending their arms and grabbing at our guards. I don't understand why the league has decided to allow that shit. I respect a good hedge. But when you don't get there in time, you don't get to just reach out and grab the guy as he circles around the top of the circle. Memphis has done that all series, and it fucks with the flow/timing of the offense badly. If I hat those two big bastards on my team, I would probably try the same thing. My beef is with the refs not calling it. The physicality has been the other big difference maker in this series. But that one play is something refs have to call, at least once in a while.

Are we championship contenders again?
this doesn't change anything.
But I do think Pop is probably tightening leashes and rotations, and it was good to see Manu back. Without him back Spurs don't win this. He was missing, AWOL... however we want to call it.
Still same team... still same chances.
I have a suspicion it's not good that we are getting this heavy dose of David Lee, but I hope he proves me wrong.

I thought of him too.
I guess if they stay in the team at a reasonable price Pop takes them. Heck at their current contracts they are a great deal. I think Simms will get paid... doesn't need to be a lot, I am thinking CoJo/Baynes type contract but no the 1 and 1 ppl here keep wanting to swing him with and it's really hard to tell. I still maintain he needs a better deal. It's possible Spurs run this thing right back frankly in which case they probably consider reupping him at a reasonable price.
I see Dedman more or less the same at this point. He can opt in to his contract, but it's really unknown. We spursfans tend to underrate the guys in our own team. But neither guy is going to be as expensive as initially thought... Spurs aren't making a run for any names IMO.. though coachmac87 keeps making noise with CP3...

I wonder about that too. Pau has struggled on defense to be fair, but so has Lee. I don't know.
I don't even know if it is on account of not having one brother duel the other and Marc besting Pau being a blow to his ego... something of that nature. it's really hard to tell. I am surprised at Pop's sudden Lee love tbh.

I think I saw what he likes about Lee in the video posted about all the missed 3's last game. One - even though Lee was a negative and defense overall sucked, Zbo did not have success. That is the first thing and was his main assignment. The second thing is unlike Dedmon, when Lee rolls, he was excellent at reading the play and delivering an on time and crisp pass.
The Spurs generated a ton of good looks from that. They missed most of them even though open. Spurs were struggling on offense with Dedmon and getting off to slow starts. Spurs got off to a fast start with Lee (even though they lost) and the same 3 balls where there today and SA nailed them.

Yes it makes sense but its changed the identity of the team from one that hanged it's hat on defense to something else. It can't be helped, playoffs are a different monster and Spurs were struggling to get others going. Also Deadman really was making a lot of mistakes out there.

Ya I get it. Just think Pop was going with offense and tbh, even though SA made plenty of mistakes defensively, I dont think Pop respects MEM offense that much so he's electing to go with more offense since its the "bigger issue". A lot of what MEM is doing has little to do with SA defense. They are just hitting shots. Dedmon would help for sure there, but the offense was suffering.

memphis has played a lot better than I expected. I know people are complaining that this series is close but imo it's a blessing in disguise for the Spurs. Kinda like how the 2014 Mavs gave them a good test in the first round. Spurs need this composure and mental preparation for later rounds. I hope the team closes it on Thursday.

i also like that pop has been playing bertans, who has hopefully been earning his trust. i think the kid could be a real difference maker in later rounds.
if this was the physical memphis of a couple of years ago, i'd say a long series is bad news as it wears the guys down, but realistically the only guy who's been pounding has been aldridge, and i'm not that worried about his conditioning or durability. if they had tony allen healthy who was playing rough with kiwi, that would concern me.
