REVEALED: Trump demanded Comey’s loyalty one day after Yates informed the White House of Flynn’s FBI interview
It t was revealed Thursday evening that President Donald Trump had dinner with former FBI director James Comey (http://www.rawstory.com/2017/05/trump-demanded-loyalty-from-fbi-director-james-comey-comey-demurred-and-then-he-was-fired-nyt/) in which
he demanded “loyalty” but Comey refused.
On the day before that dinner, former acting attorney general Sally Yates met with White House Counsel Don McGahn (https://twitter.com/lrozen/status/862844515199201281) about retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.
She warned him that the FBI had interviewed Flynn and she believed that he was compromised and could be easily be blackmailed for lying about his interactions with the Russian ambassador.
The next day, Trump reportedly had dinner with Comey and demanded the FBI director’s loyalty.
He is essentially admitted the firing of Comey had to do with Russia after all (https://www.rawstory.com/2017/05/trump-tells-lester-holt-he-would-have-fired-showboat-comey-regardless-of-dojs-recommendation/).

Trump Just Admitted He Did What He And Right-Wing Media Freaked Out About Last Summer
Right-Wing Media Flipped Out When A Clinton Supposedly Talked To Law Enforcement About A Clinton Investigation
Nearly a year ago, conservative media figures assailed former Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s meeting with Bill Clinton that occurred as Hillary Clinton’s email practices were being investigated, suggesting that she be fired or recuse herself, and stating that she undermined belief in rule of law. Will right-wing media figures have the same reaction after President Donald Trump claimed that he talked to former FBI Director James Comey on several occasions about whether he was under investigation by the agency?
Trump Says He Asked FBI Director If He Was Under Investigation
Trump To NBC: “I Actually Asked” Comey If I Were Under Investigation. NBC News reported that in an exclusive interview, President Donald Trump “revealed he asked Comey whether he was under investigation for alleged ties to Russia”:
"I actually asked him" if I were under investigation, Trump said, noting that he spoke with Comey once over dinner and twice by phone.
"I said, if it's possible would you let me know, 'Am I under investigation?' He said, 'You are not under investigation.'" [NBCNews.com, 5/11/17 (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/trump-reveals-he-asked-comey-whether-he-was-under-investigation-n757821)]
Trump Deputy Press Secretary Claimed It Wasn’t Improper For Trump To Ask About Being Under Investigation. During the May 11 White House press briefing, deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said
when asked if it was inappropriate for Trump to ask the FBI director if the FBI was investigating him, “No, I don’t believe it is.”
She continued, “‘I don’t see it as a conflict of interest and neither do many of the legal scholars who’ve been commenting on it over the last hour.’” [The Guardian, 5/11/17 (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/may/11/donald-trump-james-comey-firing-russia-investigation)]
Right-Wing Media Savaged The Former Attorney General For Meeting With Bill Clinton During Hillary Clinton Email Investigation
Fox’s Tucker Carlson: Lynch Meeting With Clinton “Undermines Our Confidence In The Rule Of Law” And Shows “The System Is Rigged.” On July 1, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson said that the meeting between Lynch and Clinton sent the message that “the system is rigged,” and that it “undermines our confidence in the rule of law, which is the most important thing we have.” From the July 1 edition of Fox & Friends:
TUCKER CARLSON (CO-HOST): They're telling us this was an accidental meeting, born of happenstance. And there you have reporting that suggests they coordinated while the plane was still in the air. They're lying.
[...]
And do you know what this says to the rest of us? It says the system is rigged. This undermines our confidence in the rule of law, which is the most important thing we have. [Fox News, Fox & Friends, 7/1/16 (https://www.mediamatters.org/embed/clips/2017/05/11/53582/fnc-ff-20160701-carlson-lynch)]

That would be the most poorly thought out plan if that was what Trump was attempting. This investigation has been going on for too long to silence with the firing of one man. Trump would have to fire hundreds of FBI agents to squash this. That isn't going to happen and that's why it's stupid to think Comey was fired to do so.
You wanted Comey fired before what changed now?
"I was going to fire regardless of recommendation," Trump told NBC. He added: "(Rosenstein) made a recommendation ... He made a recommendation, but regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey."

Comey's firing has little to do with Trump. He was fired because his new boss, Rod Rosenstein, didn't like how he handled the Hillary email investigation. Isn't that what you libs wanted?

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Lawyers for President Donald Trump said Friday that a review of his last 10 years of tax returns did not reflect "any income of any type from Russian sources," but the letter included exceptions related to previously cited income generated from a beauty pageant and sale of a Florida estate.
The letter represented the latest attempt by the president to tamp down concerns about any Russian ties amid an ongoing investigation of his campaign's associates and Russia's meddling in the 2016 election.
The attorneys did not release copies of Trump's tax returns, so The Associated Press cannot independently verify their conclusions. Their review also notably takes into account only Trump's returns from the past 10 years, leaving open questions about whether there were financial dealings with Russia in earlier years.
As an accountant, I would also note that loans do not count as "income".
The lawyers could truthfully report no "income from Russian sources" even if there is a billion dollars of loans. Basically, this is a cheap parlor trick, designed to deflect from the opaqueness of his finances.

In the interest of fairness and disclosure, the letter addresses debt. Got around to reading the full text.
Which still leaves:
I am a (Cyprus/Cayman) bank.
Russian mobsters and oligarchs have deposited a billion dollars out of my 1.5 billion dollars in assets. They have a lot of pull as to what I do.
They communicate a desire to fund Tonald Drump to me.
I create a general partnership, of which I am the ONLY general partner.
I put in one dollar of equity.
The Russian deposits one billion dollars, as a limited partner.
The general partnership is a Cyprus/Cayman entity, because I, the bank, am a Cyprus/Cayman entity and the partnership was formed in Cyprus.
I then "loan" money to Tonald Drump. Either this is at a below-market rate (easy to hide, depending on how low), or some sort of equity stake.
Tonald's lawyers, looking over where the partnership is formed, and who the general partner is can also truthfully say "no Russian entities" because they cannot see the capital structure of the company, which is 99.9999% that of the Russian oligarch/entity, merely where it is organized.
The vast army of researchers and reporters that would pour over the returns would not be limited to just poking around at the organizational docs, and could do a LOT of digging into where they money actually came from.
None of the questions will ever be truly answered until someone not paid millions of dollars a year to represent him have had a chance to read them.
The returns themselves would offer some insight, but would be a very important springboard to discover all the actual felonies, noted earlier.

With respect to the Russia investigation, during the week of March 20, 2017, Director Comey publicly testified that in late July of 2016, the FBI began investigating the Russian government’s attempts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, including alleged collusion between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government. The inquiry appears to have arisen during the same time that there was intense public controversy over the FBI’s handling of the Clinton email investigation. On April 17, 2017, the FBI responded to my March 28, 2017, letter regarding Mr. McCabe’s involvement in the investigation into the Russian Government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 election. In that response, the FBI said, “the FBI has assessed that there is no basis in law or in fact for such a recusal,” without providing any reasoning, rationale, or documentation to support this conclusory statement.
Further, according to public reports, the FBI agreed to pay Christopher Steele, the author of the unsubstantiated dossier alleging a conspiracy between Trump associates and the Russians. Clinton associates also reportedly paid Mr. Steele to create the dossier against Mr. Trump. The FBI has failed to publicly reply to my March 6, 2017, letter asking about those reports. That leaves serious questions about the FBI’s independence from politics unanswered.
Mr. McCabe’s appearance of a partisan conflict of interest relating to Clinton associates only magnifies the importance of the Committee’s unanswered questions. This is particularly true if Mr. McCabe was involved in approving or establishing the FBI’s reported arrangement with Mr. Steele, or if Mr. McCabe vouched for or otherwise relied on the politically-funded dossier in the course of the investigation. Simply put, the American people should know if the FBI’s second-in-command relied on Democrat-funded opposition research to justify an investigation of the Republican presidential campaign. Full disclosure is especially important since he is already under investigation by the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General for failing to recuse himself from the Clinton matter due to his partisan Democrat ties.

The site had its most significant exposure yet this week. As confusion swirled in Washington Wednesday following President Trump’s firing of FBI director James Comey, Democratic Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey went on CNN to make an explosive claim: A grand jury had been empaneled in New York to investigate Trump’s ties to Russia. (Another grand jury investigation, in Virginia, has been reported by CNN.)
Among the outlets that eagerly picked up the news were the Palmer Report and the Twitter feed of Louise Mensch, the anti-Trump crusader who has accused hundreds of people of being Russian agents, often with no evidence.
And what were Markey’s sources for this alarming claim? According to a Guardian reporter and the Daily Caller, none other than the Palmer Report and Mensch themselves. Hours after making the claim, Markey was forced to apologize for spreading unsubstantiated information, and through a spokesman, to reveal that he had no direct knowledge of any New York investigation.
Dem Senator Uses Info From Conspiracy Blogs To Draw Trump-Russia Connections
Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey uses conspiracy theory-laden blogs as sources for information on alleged Trump-Russia connections, according to a top aide in his office.
“In fact, subpoenas have now been issued in Northern Virginia in regard to General Flynn and General Flynn’s associates. A grand jury has been empaneled up in New York,” the Massachusetts Democrat said in a Wednesday CNN interview.
One of Markey’s top aides told The Daily Caller that his sources were Louise Mensch’s blog and a left-wing blog called the Palmer Report. Markey did not mention these sources in his television appearance.
A spokeswoman later released a statement that said: “This morning Senator Markey erroneously reported that a grand jury has been empaneled in New York related to the wider inquiry of possible Trump campaign and administration ties to Russia. Senator Markey does not have direct intelligence that is the case, and the information he was provided during a briefing is not substantiated. Subpoenas have been issued in Eastern Virginia, but Senator Markey apologizes for the confusion.”
Mensch and the Palmer Report have promoted unfounded theories. Mensch, a former employee of News Corp and member of the UK Parliament, has blamed Russia for the bombing of a German soccer team’s bus, the death of conservative journalist Andrew Breitbart and low black voter turnout for Hillary Clinton.
On Monday, she accused Sen. Markey’s colleague Ted Cruz of having “worked with the Russians.” The Palmer Report is a blog ran by a man named Bill Palmer and frequently writes stories centered on tweets by conspiracy theorists such as Mensch.
The two Palmer Report stories that Markey relied on as sources — according to his aide — were based solely on tweets by non-reporters.
Both of them center around theories that have originated from Claude Taylor, a travel photographer and former Clinton White House staffer. Taylor has previously claimed there have been multiple grand juries convened in relation to the ongoing investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.
He tweeted two weeks ago, “This just in from a source with knowledge of Comey’s investigation. ‘two grand juries have convened and I know that one is almost complete.’” Republican strategist Rick Wilson, who is part of the “Never Trump” movement, responded to this tweet with “same.”
CNN did report Tuesday that prosecutors in Virginia have issued subpoenas for associates of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. However, the assertion that there is a grand jury in New York is unfounded.
In one of Mensch’s blog posts, also sourced by Sen. Markey, she pointed to two federal cases in Virginia and New York as possibly being related to Trump.
The Daily Caller reported Tuesday that the RICO case in New York has been dismissed and the one in Virginia is completely unrelated and involves the ATF. Mensch wrote in her blog post, “There will be more on this developing story as we receive it.” Mensch has not updated the piece after publication but has tweeted about Markey’s Wednesday television interview.
“So [Sen. Markey] has just announced a #TrumpRussia Grand Jury has been empaneled in New York…,” Mensch tweeted.

The night before on “Hannity,” the right-wing host led off his monologue with a paranoid rant claiming that “Trump-hating” Washington Post got its story (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-revealed-highly-classified-information-to-russian-foreign-minister-and-ambassador/2017/05/15/530c172a-3960-11e7-9e48-c4f199710b69_story.html) about the president sharing highly classified intelligence (http://www.salon.com/2017/05/15/report-trump-revealed-more-information-to-the-russian-ambassador-than-we-have-shared-with-our-own-allies/) with the Russian ambassador and foreign minister when they visited him in the Oval Office wrong.
Hannity claimed that many administration officials have denied the report on its face — this, despite the fact that national security adviser Gen. H.R. McMaster offered only a fact-free non-denial denial when he addressed The Washington Post story on the White House lawn.

Trump stormed off and left staffers to clean up after Comey memo — and now they’re dreading his tweets
the day closed with revelations of a memo showing Trump asked former FBI director James Comey to end his investigation of disgraced national security adviser Mike Flynn, reported Politico (http://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/17/trump-white-house-on-edge-238482).
“Nobody knows where this really goes from here,” a White House official said. “Everyone is walking around saying, ‘What is next?'”
Top White House officials knew the bombshell report on the Comey memo was coming two hours before the New York Times posted it online, and
the president angrily retreated to his residence upstairs within 75 minutes of the story going live.
That left aides to “figure out how bad the fallout was,” Politico reported, but without tape recordings or even a full readout of Trump’s conversation with Comey, which took place the day after Flynn resigned.
White House surrogates were reluctant to go on TV to defend the president because they weren’t sure what to say, and Fox News host Bret Baier complained Tuesday night that no Republicans were willing to go on camera to push back against the Comey memo.
“We are kind of helpless,” said one White House official.

Why did the president ask Pence and Sessions to leave the room when he talked to Comey?
“This is the kind of conversation that rational, experienced presidents know not to have,” Ruth Marcus writes (https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2017/05/16/is-this-criminal-obstruction-of-justice/).
“It is the kind of conversation that a White House counsel should make sparklingly, crystal clear to a president that he is not to engage in, not even close.
It is
the kind of conversation that seems completely in character for Trump, who, over the course of the campaign and now in office, has betrayed no — zero — understanding of the necessary separation of the president and his Justice Department
when it comes to making independent judgments about political matters and political opponents.”

The Comey memo was also about Trump’s request to arrest reporters.
Journalists are accustomed to President Trump’s contempt for the press by this point, but his apparent desire to jail reporters who publish classified information still sent shockwaves through the profession.
The New York Times published a story with details from a memo written by former FBI Director James Comey about a meeting he had with Trump in February. Although the memo has mostly generated controversy for Trump’s reported attempt to squelch an investigation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, the president also reportedly asked Comey to bring charges against journalists who publish classified information:
“Alone in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump began the discussion by condemning leaks to the news media, saying that Mr. Comey should consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.”
Yahoo News reached out to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an independent nonprofit dedicated to defending the rights of journalists around the world, for reaction to Trump’s reported desire to jail journalists.
Joel Simon, who has been the executive director of the CPJ since 2006, has led the organization’s efforts to protect press freedom in the digital space. He helped establish the CPJ’s Global Campaign Against Impunity and Journalist Assistance program.

Trump to lunch with network anchors
.
By Hadas Gold/May 17, 2017
President Donald Trump is set to have an off-the-record lunch with network anchors on Thursday, two sources with knowledge of the plans and a White House official confirmed.
The lunch is expected to cover Trump's upcoming foreign trip. But with bombshell reports about the Trump White House dropping nearly every day this week, the lunch is sure to cover more ground.
The get-together is expected to be much smaller than past lunches with the media. Ahead of his address to the joint session of Congress in February, Trump met with some two dozen anchors from cable, broadcast, Hispanic and other networks.
At least one anchor, Scott Pelley, is moving the CBS evening news show from New York to Washington on Wednesday and Thursday partly as a result of the lunch
yeah, that's going to be awkward.

"I'm not saying Trump could not have said this, but has Comey confirmed this [thing about potentially putting reporters in jail] was ever said or is this the same memo a Comey associate told the NYT over the phone that the NYT admitted they'd never even seen to verify? "
I don't know. You would want to realize there are probably more than one memo here, although the story indicated it was in the same memo where Trump asked Comey to drop it.
Trump has talked about rolling back libel laws.
He has repeatedly called the media the "enemy of the country".
Talking about any excuse to put reporters in jail seems to fit.
Trump now saying those conversations never took place.
Let me think...who do I trust more...an orange ferret who views the truth as his enemy or Comey, someone with actual intergrity? Umm who wins out...need to think for this one..

The next level spin that TSA has been told to believe is that it was just a "suggestion", i.e what Trump "hoped" would happen.
The thing is Trump got EVERYBODY out of the room before engaging in this conversation. Almost as if he knew it would be improper.
"It wasn't really a request/order".
As if a "request" by the President never carries any underlying context.
I can see it now.
Mob guy: "I hope you can see your way to paying me my money by Tuesday."
TSA: (well, gee that doesn't sound like he means anything, not *really*, he is just expressing what he hopes happens)

I'm trying to discuss this without even bringing up that the memos content as reported may be completely false. The NYT reported that Comey showed the memos to top officials at the FBI. If these memos do exist, do you really think he would not have shown them to the #2 in charge at the FBI?

It was. It reinforces something I suspected when I first heard Comey won't testify unless the hearing is open to the public. I doubt the reasons for that are going to be flattering to the Golfer-in-Chief, just like Comey's testimony in 2007 wasn't to Bush's administration.

The Carolina Theory: How Vladimir Putin Catfished A US Election With the Collusion of Team Trump
Did Russia use a criminal case against Anthony Weiner – so their hacker Nikulin could plant Hillary’s emails on his computer?
It was the Comey letter that handed the election to Trump. Even if corrupt elements in the FBI Field Office in New York, penetrated by Russia, forced Comey’s hand – even if Russian hacker Nikulin did plant emails on Anthony Weiner’s computer – there had to be a separate criminal case in the first place for the NYPD and FBI to go looking. I thought there was not – as above, I was wrong.
Did Vladimir Putin direct an attack by a hardened group of adult hackers from North Carolina who penetrated the emails of Director Brennan of the CIA, and doxed and attacked hundreds of FBI and law enforcement personnel?
In this story I exclusively report the connections between the USSR-CWA hacker group of North Carolina ‘Crackas With Attitude’ and the sexts with, ostensibly, a 15 year old girl from Gaston, North Carolina, who had early in 2016 been a genuine victim of Weiner’s predatory behavior. That started the chain of events that led to James Comey’s forced letter to Congress, including the fact that the an email to Weiner ostensibly written by his earlier victim is in fact a series of plagiarized texts it is unlikely any 15 year old girl has read, including works by J.D. Salinger, David Foster Wallace, Charles Bukowski, and – yes – “Fight Club” by Chuck Palahniuk.
There is also direct evidence that members of the Trump campaign were involved in this conspiracy and knew in advance what was coming – including Lara Trump, who visited Gaston, North Carolina, some days before she promised an ‘October surprise’ and ’tricks up our sleeve.’
====================================
The Carolina Conspiracy: Corrected And Updated in Light of Weiner’s Crime:
It is very important to correct things that are wrong. I have two major corrections to make to my theory, articulated in this story, following Anthony Weiner’s guilty plea to one count of transferring obscene material to a minor and also of “attempting” to do so.
The first is that Weiner did indeed, by his own account and that of prosecutors, transfer sexual material to a minor. The plea deal document said this happened ‘in 2016’. Therefore, all the following must be true, and I was wrong about them: Weiner did sext with a minor; the case was not invented, there was a real crime, with a real girl.
That is a fact. This article was a theory, written as such. And that theory has been proven partly wrong by the facts, which I must acknowledge with prominence. There was a real crime and a very serious one.
No 15 year old girl should ever have to undergo abusive contact by a predator like Weiner. Nor is she in any way whatsoever responsible for any actions by other adults. She is a pure victim.
The second thing I want to correct in this story is my blame on ADA Dana Boente. President Obama removed him from the line of succession. This now appears to have been a clever and successful feint into trapping Trump into reappointing Boente. He clearly has the trust of Director Comey and DUSA Rosenstein, and therefore has mine. I apologize fulsomely to him.
As far as the rest of the story goes, it is vital to emphasize, and I do, that if men pretended that they were an abuse victim, that is on them and them alone. Such actions, showing intent, would add to Weiner’s guilt and not diminish it. If grown men faked any thing, as coming from an underage victim of crime, that, again, is on them, and not in any way whatsoever on the victim of the crime.
The Carolina Conspiracy Remains My Theory, Although Founded on a Real Crime
I also want to be clear, however, that I am not correcting, or altering, my overall theory in this article on Trump and Russia. I believe based on all the evidence that Mr. Weiner also sexted and emailed with grown men who were not the real girl he factually abused, but whom he thought were that same girl.
I believe, based on the evidence of the indictment by the FBI of Nikulin in Federal Court in October 2016, that he used Formspring to plant a virus on Anthony Weiner’s computer and sway the election. From none of that do I resile. Weiner is a predator and a true crime took place with an underage victim. That does not exclude the rest of these events happening, and the FBI charge of Nikulin supports it. Thus, the thrust of the theory of a conspiracy in South Carolina, by hackers allied with Donald Trump and with Russia, to enable the seizure of Weiner’s computer, and to throw the election, remains. The fact is this conspiracy was enabled by a real offense of Weiner’s, it appears from his plea in court (as best I understand it). I have altered the text below to reflect the reality of that predatory offense.

The White House search for a new FBI director has been 'chaotic', with 'no clear framework or logic' (http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/6/4/1668810/-The-White-House-search-for-a-new-FBI-director-has-been-chaotic-with-no-clear-framework-or-logic)
Does the White House have the capacity to staff the position at all? (http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-justice-fbi-idUSKBN18T2S8)
President Donald Trump is still looking for a new FBI director more than three weeks after he fired James Comey, and sources familiar with the recruiting process say it has been chaotic and that job interviews led by Trump have been brief.
[...]While the department has compiled a long list of candidates for the White House,
there has been no “clear framework or logic for who was interviewed and why,” said one of the sources.
Another of the three sources described the process as chaotic and said that
in one interview, Trump spoke mostly about himself and seemed distracted. :lol anybody surprised?
That indeed sounds like the Trump we know.
The good news here is that the longer it takes for Team Trump to fill the position, the longer the FBI's investigations can continue without an additional layer of impediment.
It also appears that whether the person chosen is qualified, competent, experienced, or none of those things will be left to a roll of the dice,
because nobody in the White House, from top to bottom, knows what the flying monkey hell they are doing.

White House Staff, Congress Blindsided by FBI Pick Announcement
President Trump decided to leave much of his senior staff out of the loop before announcing his pick to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
A number of senior Trump officials learned of the president’s pick to lead the FBI the same way everyone else did: on Twitter (http://www.thedailybeast.com/white-house-staff-react-in-real-time-as-trump-tweets-jesus). :lol
President Donald Trump (http://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-officials-he-looks-more-and-more-like-a-complete-moron)’s top communications staff, and much of his senior White House team, did not know the president was going to make the official announcement for nominating James Comey (http://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-officials-on-comey-memo-dont-see-how-trump-isnt-completely-fcked)’s successor early Wednesday morning via a single tweet, according to multiple White House officials.
Several observers noted on Wednesday morning that Trump’s Christopher Wray (http://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-picks-chris-christes-lawyer-to-head-the-fbi?via=desktop&source=copyurl) announcement did not (https://twitter.com/Hadas_Gold/status/872431575899803648) arrive with any fact sheet or official press release, as would be expected with news of this weight.
And it’s just the latest instance of President Trump’s senior staffers, particularly his communications and press shop, being cut out of the loop, undermined, and frazzled by their unpredictable boss and his compulsive tweeting habit.
One senior administration official said “of course not” when asked by The Daily Beast whether top communications staff such as press secretary Sean Spicer and his deputy Sarah Huckabee Sanders were informed that the president would be tweeting out the news about Wray on Wednesday morning, sans a basic press strategy in place.

Because some disgruntled ex-employee metes out vengeance. Been done a zillion times. Hell, I've done it.
He had it all, a nice paycheck, a swell health insurance plan (not like we got), limo service, power, a 10 year contract, a nice paycheck, power, a nice paycheck. And it was all wiped away in the blink of an eye. Poof!!! Just like that.
He'll be fine, get a permanent gig over at CNNMSBC where they'll teach him all about it.

Trump, furious and frustrated, gears up to punch back at Comey testimony
Alone in the White House in recent days, President Trump — frustrated and defiant — has been spoiling for a fight,
Glued even more than usual to the cable news shows that blare from the televisions in his private living quarters, or from the 60-inch flat screen he had installed in his cramped study off the Oval Office, he has fumed about “fake news.”
Trump has seethed as his agenda has stalled in Congress and the courts.
He has chafed against the pleas for caution from his lawyers and political advisers, tweeting whatever he wants, whenever he wants.
Trump is keen to be a participant rather than just another viewer, two senior White House officials said, including the possibility of taking to Twitter to offer acerbic commentary during the hearing.
“He’s infuriated at a deep-gut, personal level that the elite media has tolerated [the Russia story] and praised Comey,” former House speaker Newt Gingrich said.
“He’s not going to let some guy like that smear him without punching him as hard as he can.”
The president’s lawyers and aides have been urging him to resist engaging, and they hope to keep him busy Thursday with other events meant to compete for his — and the news media’s — attention.
