I'm a Democrat. Here's what I have to say. Good for Trump. He is 100% correct on this issue. In my opinion, this a cop out on the owners part and the NFL's. They have no back bone. I bet you all of the owners and The Commissioner can't stand this and want to make these bafoons stand during the Anthem. I bet that is what they truly believe. What decisions they make don't necessarily line up with what they really feel. They are just too afraid to go against the black guys. If it was a bunch of white guys kneeling during the Anthem, you better believe the NFL and owners would be handing out fines and the bear minimum. They are just AFRAID of black people's reactions. See, black people are rioting in the streets over everything, using everything as an excuse to riot, assault innocent people, loot and steal and vandalize. You didn't see whites rioting in the streets when OJ was found not guilty. No, the blacks though were running the streets with signs saying "The Juice is Loose." Yep. It's pretty much one of the more respectful, nonpartisan protests I can recall. the employers can discipline the players if they wish (as defined by their contracts and collective agreements) but why? Why is it so upsetting to anyone?

America is not a perfect country, but imo, it is still the best place to live, the place with the greatest freedoms, the most opportunity, second chances, etc. People don't appreciate how good they have it here. I didn't contribute for 21 years while raising kids so definitely I'll be a net gain - in current form, I would probably get half of the SS that my dh gets (since I doubt my 12 years before kids plus the years I work from now until say age 70 will be > half his - I had to start at the bottom of the pay scale). As far as Medicare, I think one qualifies with 10 years' credit? so definitely contribute less than I would take out.

FYI, Ryan's plan for SS reduces "home-maker" benefits to 1/2 of the average SS benefit - much less than my dh's. I am for this and for tying SS to life expectancy and raising Medicare age to 70 in order to save the programs.

Of course, all that is moot if we decide to retire in Jamaica (where medical and COL is very cheap) - in which case, we'll have put in much more than we receive (0) - who knows what will happen? Maybe I'll have grandchildren and my kids need help with them.
