Bump because compared to this team's other options (DeFrozen ball); it's the best chance of winning this team has
Well, not the highest bar to clear there. :lol

48 points wow, against a contender too. Just need consistency in the playoffs

True but compared to the crap show in the last 2 previous games it is cleared by a minimum of two miles.

Aldridge is probably playing the best, most efficient ball of his career, tbh. He looks downright dominant when he isn't settling for soft fadeaways jumpers. Still not enough to be a true contender, obvioulsy, but good to see him putting the effort to be playing his best at age 34.

It’s not winning basketball, because he’s out there for the stat while Timmy/Manu wouldn’t care (I cannot say about Tony :lol). He’s not over himself. I’m sure Pop had him stay up to almost the last minute just to feed his ego. But maybe it’s not that bad, and get him feeling unstoppable going into the playoffs. But he sure needs to be consistent.

Pop better be scheming on how to overcome teams double and triple teaming LA in the Playoffs. Apparently Aldridge IS WINNING BALL...... from today’s ESPN power rankings:
[ The Spurs are 35-8 when LaMarcus Aldridge (http://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/2983/lamarcus-aldridge) scores at least 20 points and 8-1 when he scores 30. Hold him under 20? The Spurs are 7-22. He's shooting 56.3 from the floor in wins and 44 percent in losses. Want to guess where playoff foes' defensive game plans will focus? -- MacMahon ]
Of course a lot of this will also depend on how LA handles these schemes as well as the rest of the team. I think SA will make a nice run.

Are you telling me the Spurs tend to win when their main offensive option shoots substantially better than his normal self? What a shocking revelation, tbh. :lol

So I guess we only need LA to shoot better than he normally does every single game from here on out and :lobt2:

DAF I just hold that with our current roster, letting the offense go through LMA is by far our best option. He is tougher matchup issue than Derozan and more consistent than Rudy. Most teams don't post up nor do they know how to stop it; so as long as LMA isn't just doing the fadeaway he is our best matchup advantage. There are players that do what Derozan does better than he does, there are not many that can come close to doing what LaMonster can do when he is at his best.

we've also seen derozan struggle when defenses key on him. then he gets frustrated, puts his head down, and keeps getting blocked over and over again. the more attention LMA is drawing, the more room derozan has to operate 1 on 1 where he can break things down

Bertans is always open in case LMA gets doubled. It's amazing how he just never stops moving so there's always a clear passing angle; I've never seen a player so good at it. I hope he continues to shoot his early season average. Or have an 8-10 night.

Of course LA is a better offensive option than DeRozan. I never argued otherwise, tbh. My point never was that Aldridge isn't the best offensive option of this team, my point is that as long as that fact doesn't change we are not coming even close to contender status.

This is completely absurd... LMA ball hasn't been winning ball even in his prime... U guys must be teens on here... Overblowing regular season wins...

Dunc are you comparing him to the Goat Timmay or an all time great like the HOTS MVParker? Then no LMAlpha isn't on that level BUT on this team right now what do you see as a better option than LaMonster? The first retort is 'what about the playoffs?' but his playoff history is equal to if not better than DeFrozen's and Rudy "Not This" Gay came to the Spurs to get the playoffs for the first time.

Toast one more time to this thread. Pretty much sums up Aldridge’s entire NBA career.

yeah just happy to see him go. With that being said i’m tired of PATFO getting ruined. At some point it’s not a about our perceived winning culture and treating players well. It’s becoming a trend of accommodating guys who should not be accommodated.

We tried to tell y'all.
But, tbf OP, half of this forum are PATFO slurpers and would have agreed with you until the Spurs brought him in.
Same thing with DD and Gay.

OP is correct, assuming he means they could never contend with Aldridge as a focal point..I don't know why he's getting attacked for that, it seems like an obvious point, tbh..
I loved last year's version of Aldridge, I think he could be a legitimate 2nd guy on a title team if he played the same role(defensive anchor and complimentary piece)..unfortunately, he doesn't agree, as he demanded a trade:lol
Good enough to be the best player on an early exit team(style of play easily shut down by a good defense in the playoffs), but not content with being a complimentary piece on a contender..maybe his mentality will change as he gets older..
Dunno why we're still discussing this 3 years later, tbh... he does seem he's ready to coattail to a ring though.

:lol This team would be playing for ping pong balls without "Aldridge ball"
Another great post, in retrospect, tbh... definitely wonder where this Spurs team would be now in their rebuild if they would've been playing for ping pong balls back then instead of Aldridge ball...
