View Full Version : Woj: Kawhi Cleared to Play; Chooses to Sit Out; In NYC Getting 2nd Opinion on Injury
Can someone call the doctor and ask about Kawhi?
Not unless Kawhi gives the okay to release that info (which may be another reason to avoid contact with Spurs "company" doctors).

The Spurs should try to get Michael Yaszemski M.D., PhD. as part of their staff. He was head of Orthopedics at the Mayo Clinic, has a PhD in Bioengineering from MIT and is one of the world's leading experts on tissue regeneration. He is a retired 2 star general from the Air Force. UT Health Science Center scored a bit of a coup in getting him to head up their new Bioengineering Dept so he will be moving back to SA at some point. He's also a big sports fan. If there is some rift between Kawhi and the Spurs regarding treatment/health options he is as good as it gets. And it sounds like tissue regeneration is what Kawhi actually needs.
I mean it's not like the Spurs doctors are bums or like they're over aggressive. I'm guessing you have to have amazing credentials to handle multi-million dollar assets (players) and they basically invented DNP-rest so we know they're ultra conservative. Imo they just went along with the "misdiagnosis" because of who Kawhi is. You have to kiss the ass of that level of player even if you think you are right. If that's BP3 or Forbes they probably just tell him nah you're good to go, stop being a bitch.
Look, Kawhi says he's in pain and injured. We have to take him at his word. Pop just said pre-game yesterday that saving endangered animals is more important than saving humans, so is that the guy Kawhi wants to take health advice from? My guess is no. I don't blame him.

So so true. We must always take everyone at their word. After all, Nixon said he was not a crook, Clinton denied having relations with that woman, and athletes like Lance Armstrong, Mark McGwire, and Barry Bonds denied using PEDs.
We must take them, and everyone, at their word! After all, no one ever lies.

He's right about saving endangered animals. Humans are destroying with the world and the worst ones are breeding making shitty inbred copies of themselves. We should save the Rhinos damnit!

So u think Kawhi is lying about being in pain after the games he played this season? U think he was faking the limp and struggle to climb stairs?

Did pop really say that? About endangered animals?

It makes a lot of sense and your chances of refuse the supermax seem bigger now, Parker's comment was very bad when it happened. and it looks even worse now, only Pop could fix it (if something is really wrong in this relationship)

OH, another pro Kawhi article painting the Spurs, not Kawhi, as bad guys because they are “talking”. Well, when the guy who should be talking literally abandons his team and they are forced to do interviews (literally, the nba requires teams to make players available) what the hell do you think they are going to be asked to talk about??
This is ON KAWHI. I would be pissed if i was a teammate and he’s lucky the team and his teammates have protected him as much as possible.
Even the 100% comment by TP was answered very PC and was to a DIRECT question about the situation. It was also 100% THE TRUTH.

The impasse boiled over late last month, when Leonard showed up for the annual team picture, posed in his No. 2 jersey and quickly left. His teammates later confronted him at a players-only meeting
That makes Kawhi sound like an immature asshole who doesn't give a shit about teammates, and it completely justifies their attempted intervention a.k.a. team meeting.
He's a grown man, the main cog of a team (and he knows it ... unless he really is Forrest Gump) ... and most importantly -- he's a paid professional. He should start acting like it.

It was probably a bad move by Pop and the team to have that meeting with him. I'm sure the relationship was already irreparable but now Kawhi can have his Windhorst (to LeBron) paint the Spurs out as bad guys. I doubt that guy writes that article without Kawhi's blessing. He's gone.

Yeah, the premise that his teammates should unconditionally support him is really bad. Not even Lebron's teammates would do that, and he hand picks them. The team has shown remarkable restraint in the face of the numerous media leaks and this whole situation in general. Kawhi can take his "real NBA" ness to another club if he's not prepared to play ball. Wherever he goes, Jabari can go there too.

agree,
The article doesn't do Kawhi's image any favors IMO. If anything it makes him childish and resentful. But it does protect his bottom line: money. Bc it makes all the rift about something else than the fact that he's an injured player that hasn't played an entire year with a history (yes a history) of chronic tendinopathies and a possible degenerative knee tendon condition. IF he's unable to play, he's not worth the supermax. Heck if he can't play he's not worth any max... He has to play to get his next deal at this point. I think Spurs will even have trouble getting good value for him (which the article assumes they will get) bc of the injury situation.
The article says that him sitting out is not about money, but never says what it was about. And it's not about Tony's comments. Kawhi got a worsening chronic injury first and distanced himself from the team and then comments were made later, which by the way are completely taken out of context, but they really came at the end.
I think the "journalist" is butthurt that his sensationalist ass was denied media credentials bc Spurs knew he was coming with precisely this agenda.
I didn't have to go that far than this same forum to find out Kawhi had a history of chronic tendinopathy b4 and he's possibly having a worsening of a chronic condition. Is he going to have to deal with this for the rest of his career? That doesn't sound like a supermax worthy player to me.. but sure it's better to make this about the Spurs than about the injury itself... to protect the player's bottom line.

I requested a media credential. For the first time in 30-plus years of sports journalism, of covering Olympics and World Cups and everything in between, I was denied.
He then goes on to blame pop. Like Pop cares about a reporter from San Diego.
Sounds like a pissed off journalist that wants to get on Kawhi’s good side by sucking him in preparation for his inevitable return to the west coast.

All of these guys in the media are auditioning to be Kawhi's insider. They want to be for Kawhi what Brian Windhorst is for Lebron.
