View Full Version : Woj: Kawhi Back in SA Working Out with Team; Spurs Expecting a March Return

Sounds like he decided to go to New York at this time on purpose, maybe not to get cleared like we've thought, but more just to get out of town. If he has for that reason, he's turning into one of the biggest bitches of all-time. I hope that I am wrong on all of this.
I hope I'm wrong too, but I could see NYC being a key spot for his brand (meetings, etc.). Pretty F'd up situation all around that continues to leave people scratching their heads.

This cuck took Woj's "Kawhi is aiming to return against the Wizards" report and then pretended that sources were telling The Expr:lolss News that. Quite possibly the only "insider" in the league with no sources aside from his twitter notifications.
He should stop belittling fans and gain some confidence in real life. He looks like a weird creepy virgin when he's in the background of the practice interviews.

Kawhi is looking to get cleared by NY doctors and will aim for April 7th against Blazers...
Going back to NY is ONLY way to get cleared.. Spurs won’t or haven’t ruled him out..there’s still hope

If that happens Spurs should not allow him to play. Throw the narrative that they are willing to risk Kawhi out the window.

Yikes, his inside source is WOJ. We should ask him to ask Woj to find out what is going on with Kawhi.

This IMO been his plan all year..which is why we heard him speak when Pop made the “gotta move on” point which wasn’t a coincidence...
Kawhi isn’t gonna rush back to play in 10 regular season games and risk injury to miss playoffs all together..waiting until last possible minute and let it fly...
Spurs/Pop don’t like it and they’re being held hostage..and honestly cannot do anything about it. It’s fucked up but Spurs have everything to lose if they mess around...
This team ain’t dick without him so there’s no risk..Kawhi is only one risking anything and if he “clears” himself let him hoop. “Chemistry excuse” is total BS and Kawhi camp shut that down almost immediately..
If Kawhi is officially “Done” his camp or Spurs would announce it...does nobody any good to dangle the hope unless there is some.

If he supposedly had to go back to New York all along to receive medical clearance, then why didn't he or the organization mention that beforehand? Why were their rumors, on March 10th, that he planned to play on the 15th? Pop claimed to have watched him working out on the 14th and they agreed he wasn't ready. Then came the team meeting on the 17th.
On the 26th, he went back to New York and remains a week later, with no sign of coming back; as if it would take that long to receive an answer from his "group" or he'd need medical clearance from independent doctors anyway.
I think what happened here is, he decided to get the hell out of Dodge after the team meeting and the organization as well as his mouthpiece in the media decided to cover up for him by pretending this was planned all along.

Then why not officially announce he’s done....because once you do that you can’t go back from it..
Why does Kawhi speak to media once Pop tried to end all speculation??
How else do you get cleared from an outside doctor without a visit? It’s like missing work without a doctor note...lol
The only reason why this “speculation” continues is cause Kawhi wants to play in the playoffs...why else bust your ass off?? If you’re “done and out” there’s no need to let this go on..
PATFO and even the players don’t agree with how he’s holding them hostage..but deep down they know they need him and they’re not shit without him..:so what can they really do?

If you still want to believe the official sources, RC said long ago that the rehab has been frustrating because it hasn't gone in a linear fashion, implying that this is a chronic injury that has flared up and that there have been times he's felt better and with increased activities he's gone back to feeling worse.
There is no issues between the Spurs organization and Kawhi," Buford told ESPN in an interview. "From Day 1 all parties have worked together to find the best solutions to his injury."
Buford said the situation has been "difficult for everyone."
"It's been difficult for Kawhi," ESPN quoted Buford as saying. "He's an elite-level player. It's been difficult for the team, because they want to play with a great teammate. And it's been difficult for our staff. Historically, we've been able to successfully manage injuries. This rehab hasn't been simple, and it hasn't gone in a linear fashion."
https://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/article/Spurs-Buford-denies-report-of-a-rift-between-12515497.php#photo-14346081
It's quite possible he's had a setback much like the one he had in January and which prompted them all to pull him back.
It's a worrisome situation for this injury and it's effect on his career.
He's not coming back this season. It's easy to see he's not well enough and is highly unlikely to be in the time left. No one is going to tell him it's impossible if he's working really hard to play this year, but using your common sense you can form your own conclusions. Why hasn't he been ruled out for the rest of the season? Bc it's up to him and his medical team to say when he's going to be ready at this point and the Spurs are respecting that.

So he's definitely there to get cleared? He's not there to run away from the media due to the NCAA being in town and the report of the meeting with his teammates.
If that is the case, I'm OK with it, and I definitely would welcome him back at any time. The Spurs have no chance to do much in the playoffs without him.
Another thing is, Sean Elliott mentioned a couple of weeks ago during a game that the Spurs do want him back because a lot of people and players in the organization believe they can go on a big playoff run with him back in the lineup. I think that's another reason why they never officially shut him down. And if Kawhi really is working this hard to try and come back, how can you take that away from him? You can't. I hope he comes back. He looked awesome in one of the games before he was shut down when he was making his signature defensive plays. I thought he was back, then next thing you know, they shut him down again.

It's a long shot, but I like the idea that he's still trying to get cleared which I believe he is. All the static doesn't help, hopefully he's not listening and Pop is checking in with him. I have a feeling we will hear something more definitive in the coming days! Hope it's positive.

I honestly think if he was holding out for anything he wouldn't be rehabbing like he has. Rumors run rampant, especially in today's media crazed world.
The Spurs can beat the Rockets with Kawhi, and the Warriors are vulnerable this year. I can understand the Spurs really wanting him back for this post season.

All I can tell is that Leonard's image is going to suffer from this drama. Fans here are already shitting on him and there is no doubt franchises will have second thoughts about hiring him after such a mess. I know he's probably in the top 3 players, but what's the point having him if he can do stuffs like that and not play at all ?
Maybe he's not doing that on purpose, maybe he's still really suffering, but at least explain it.
If the spurs manage get to the WFC, look for Kawhi to come back. Won’t be a good look for him if the team is that successful without him in the playoffs.

Cool. Even his teammates said they backed him on not playing if he’s not healthy. What they don’t back him on is being so distant and not doing anything a leader should do to help out in other ways by being more present and engaged as they are battling and playing not 100% themselves on top of having to face the media every damn day while you duck those responsibilities.

SHOW ME! I've read everything and I can confidently say that MAYBE One person KINDA said Kawhi needs to communicate better and that was Manu... And what he said was he wanted to hear it from Kawhi himself, and not the media... NOWHERE else did ANY other teammates say ANYTHING close to that... And the only reason the meeting was called was because of Tony Parker and Manu... Who are concerned because their window is closing and they wanted to put pressure on Kawhi to play

The thing that is bothering me the most right now is those interviews with Cris Carter. It seems like he thinks he's in a group that's calling the shots with/for Kawhi, and I just don't like what he's implying. The other guy (sorry I don't know his name as I don't watch that show) asked him close to a week ago if he thought Kawhi would come back this season and Carter said "no." Then in the latest video he just couldn't hide his smugness and let slip at the end of the video that "we" have a big announcement coming, but they can't say until the end of the season.
If Kawhi has no intention of playing due to some other issue and not the injury itself, then he needs to announce it now and stop screwing the team and fans around with a false sense of hope. If Cris Carter is full of shit and Kawhi really is still trying to play, then maybe he should say something in that case too (I hope that this is the real case). His teammates had to ask a week or so ago, and if they had to do that, then it means he pretty much had not been around to communicate with a lot of them. Maybe he talked to some of them like Danny Green via text, but it seems like a bunch of them didn't have a clue what is going on with him. I don't see the point of leaving everyone in the dark and twisting in the wind. You're supposed to be the leader of the team - an MVP level player. You don't get to hide and sneak out the back door when you're at that level. He has to man up to his responsibilities even if he doesn't want to or like doing it. That's what being a leader is all about. You can't just disconnect, disappear and vanish.

If that’s true that’s some dumb shit. The difference between his Jordan deal and this other shoe deal couldn’t make up the difference between a max and super max contract. Jordan didn’t get sponsors cuz he played in Chicago. He got Sponsors cuz he won a lot. I think Kawhi is hurt and that’s it. I can’t accept Kawhi doing to Pop what Deron Williams did to Jerry Sloan.

You realize that those kinds of shoe deals are for life, right? Usually that or some huge payout at some point.
It is within the realm of possibility that Kawhi is betting on himself here. So you lose that max deal temporarily. That's fine as long as he can collect his money here, play well somewhere else on a big deal, then accept the super max later on all while still making his massive shoe deal money -which could open the door to more sponserships - over the course of his lifetime.
This isn't to say that he doesn't want to be here, or that he'll be moved. But if one is to believe he will follow the money, then it should be considered that San Antonio is probably not the place he can make the most money over the course of his life.
Jordan and a bigger market has to be better than that HEB "make me look like a retard on TV" money.

The length or the payout of the shoe deal shouldn’t be substantially better outside of SA. He already has a major shoe deal. There are no doubt better sponsors in other cities but the difference between a super max and max worth of them? A player must have been drafted by the team offering the super max or be traded on their rookie deal to be eligible. Meaning, Kawhi can only sign a super max with SA.
Even if Kawhi went to a larger market I’m not sure his personality fits that archetype. HEB isn’t what makes Kawhi look... special.

You cannot get a SuperMax anywhere else if you’re Kawhi FYI. The spirit of the SuperMax is that only the team that drafted you (along with other qualifications) can offer that massive deal.

Either way, he can make up that money elsewhere and then some.

Not really, no he can’t. Especially factoring in the difference in guaranteed money over 5 years plus no state income tax in TX vs somewhere like LA.

How much salary total would he get in 5 years from another team? I know he can only sign a 4 year deal with another team, but if he were to re-sign a new contract with another team after the 4 years are up, what would be the first year salary of that new contract? I want to see the difference between 5 years at the Spurs and 5 years at another team.

Spurs are the only team that can offer the Super Max at $219M over 5 years. If he gets traded and signs an extentsion with the new team he can get $183m. If he’s not traded, but instead leaves as a 2019 FA he can sign for $140m/4yr.

Exactly. Also, there is no endersoment deal that can give him the money he loses...He would lose almost $50M not signing the supermax.

Yeahhhh I call his bluff and make him chase 140/4yr...
What could Spurs offer him if he plays out his deal??

Thanks. It looks like it's still a bigger gap that I thought. Good to know there is still a big difference from 5 years at the Spurs and 4 + an extension at another team.

Depends. If he doesn’t sign the SuperMax this offseason and instead decides to play out next season, SA could still offer him the SuperMax again if he qualifies (would have to make all nba team, win mvp, etc...to requalify). If not, then it’s closer to the 183M I believe

Do you mean if the Spurs don't offer him the supermax. Why does he decide to play out next season having to play other year for the same team to sign with them for less money after a year? It doesn't make sense.

Agreed, but it doesn’t matter the reason. The point remains. Maybe he wants to assess what SA does this next season before he decides if he wants to stay? He can still get the SuperMax if he waits, whatever the reason, is the point. He would just have to re-qualify (which obviously poses some risk to him)
I agree that the more likely scenario is that SA doesn’t offer him that contract this Summer if he’s not signed to it.

He's not a vet like CP3 and LeBron with many max deals signed in their careers that can wait and see...Like you said the most likely scenario is the other.

Most reports were than Manu and TP headed it I thought but remember Manu was the one that made the comment the media made them all believe he was coming back soon and then they got in a slump before this most recent surge about 10 games ago.

Well just confirming what I thought basically you are a player fan. Now that Duncan is retired you have become a Kawhi player fan.
This doesn't make sense... Do u have a favorite player on the Spurs?
Why is Kawhi in NY where it's raining and snowing and dropping into the 30s at night when he could be enjoying the 70s here in S.A.?

Yeah, let's run off the GOAT coach bc Kawhi wants to go to a bigger market to grow his brand. That would really stabilize things.
This team almost won 50 with Kawhi being a faggot all year, with injuries to Gay, LMA, Green, etc. They aren't getting another Kawhi but put an all-star level player at SF instead of Fathead and this is still a 55-60 win team.

IDK...he seemed willing to elaborate on plenty of the other questions.
You'd like to think he'd respond to the question positively and then adding at least a sentence or two behind it.
"Yeah...for sure. Spurs are a great organization and I can't wait to get back on the floor."
