The career of all of those players spanned 15 years at least and only competed with their national teams for a short while, despite being Ballon D'Or caliber players. He needs to accept a more specific role that takes him out of the middle of the field. There's a reason why trequartista are extinct, they do nothing against the modern 4-3-3 or Variations of 4-1-2-3. Ronaldo is beasting out there because he plays a role within a team structure. He no longer hogs the wings and occupy the ball 100% of the time, he now relies on delivery and that allows portugal to set up a structured game plan. Messi has Dybala-Higuin-Aguero-Pavon all extremely talented offensive players who have to limit themsleves because they play a very antiquated style of football.

Messi either needs to accept a False 9 role or Just play in the wings.
