View Full Version : Kawhi is not resigning here

There’s a difference between being hurt and injured....
I’m just pointing out facts. He’s getting paid 20M and played 9 games. Team doctors advise one thing yet the player goes against it..which is fine to an extent but leaving the team/players out to dry is not cool. Having them to answer your questions isn’t cool.
I’ve made it clear what I think is going on and it’s definitely a unique deal that’s NEVER happened in league history.,
So I get why it’s frustrating
I don't remember you saying what you think is going on...

It really seems Kawhi and his camp are going on the offensive after Pop's "group' comments of the weekend by giving things to the talking heads.
Chris Carter yesterday (paraphrasing on all these) 'It is more about placing the streaks of 50 win games and making the playoffs ahead Kawhi's long term health."
Chris Broussard yesterday: "Spurs are nice to KL and his group to their faces but saying negative things to the media behind theirs backs. Essentially calling the Spurs disingenuous and that the leaks are from PATFO and meant to damage Kawhi's rep"
Stephen A today: "Kawhi is a quiet guy, doing nothing, but Spurs are throwing shade at him." Quotes Sjax without noting he has issues with Pop and may be biased.
All at once? Clearly, they have gone on the attack to portray KL as victim here. All 3 reporters pushing the story-line that the Spurs are to blame.
KL (or his people) vs Spurs in the media. Wow! It's like Kobe vs Shaq or Geroge Karl vs Boogie. Each playing the talking heads. So weird for the Spurs.

Now I saw it... Baseless speculation but with all that's being thrown around why not put that one out there? That's disrespectful and inconsiderate to teammates and the coaching staff if true. Frankly I wouldn't want to play with a teammate like that. I'd much rather belive this is all about an endorsement deal and the uncle. But for now, I am still assuming he's had a setback in his rehab...

Notice how Kellerman brought up the idea that Kawhi's people don't want him to be in SA due to him having lack of opportunities for endorsements. Once he brought up the idea Molly the dumb c-nt immediately interrupted him and brought up the Spurs misdiagnosis of Kawhi's injury. The dumb c-nt double downed at the end of the segment by saying Pop is throwing shade at Kawhi's camp. I laughed when Stephen A said it's really weird about what's going on with the Spurs and Kawhi and that he doesn't know what's going on. My reaction was it's not weird since its clear one side is at fault but you don't want to admit it since it's Kawhi's side that is causing all the problems and that goes against your racially biased pro-player agenda. It's clear there is an agenda here to take down the Spurs and ignore the truth about what's actually happening.

The whole endorsement thing is stupid. The Admirable had a ton of endorsements while being in SA. He was all over TV back then.
It comes down two things: 1) Being very good and 2) Having a marketable personality.

I agree. I grew up in NC and I saw LJ and Alonzo get national commercials back in the day which was amazing considering back then Charlotte was even a lot smaller than what is now. I also remember Shaq and Penny getting a ton of commercials when they played in a super small market in Orlando. They got them because like you said they had marketable personalities just like Drob. Kawhi just doesn't have that personality.
I'm speculating that this animosity grew last year in the WCSF and WCF. Spurs encourage Kawhi to play on a bum ankle against the Rockets, sprained it, got better and then had him play against the Warriors and re-injured. Kawhi being paranoid and weak minded had all trust he had with the team broken. Feeligns carried over the summer, from what I know he practiced elsewhere and not in SA. Uncle/whoever started whispering in his ear. Not being paid enough by Jordan brand, Finals MVP being paid shit by team, completely brainwashed and now he is doing this to preserve himself.
Pop being a military dictator type will not have this. Kawhi just lost himself the super max extension and possibly some titles with the Spurs, we could have beat the warriors if Kawhi was playing with LMA playing at this level.

The list of injuries they also had to sit out for were numerous... Kawhi has also played through injuries... Just not as many because he OBVIOUSLY hasn't been in the league as long... Jesus christ, how isn't that obvious?
When did TD ever blow off a season when he was medically cleared to play by team doctors? Tim wanted to play when he needed knee surgery and he was younger than Leonard at the time.

Also keep in mind Tim was free agent in the summer of '00 and still wanted to play in the '00 playoffs even if it meant risking his future. I remember it well because I was in hschool at the time and was angry at Pop for not allowing Tim to play.

I wonder how this affects the SPURS long term in free agency going forward. All the bad press on both sides i dont see helping the SPURS land a big fish moving forward. KL & LMA together would help us land a top tier free agent. But with only 1 star & and a bunch of role players doesn't look to appealing to potential free agents.

Tim was a warrior pure and simple. It is why he has 5 rings. He should have 6, and easily could have won 7.. 2006 was the best Spurs team to not win it all.. Duncan scored 40 plus in game 7 against the Mavs.. It is why some players with talent bang around this league for a while, put up some stats, make way too much money and just retire.. While others retire as sporting legends.. He was all about that competition, his team and trying to be the best.. Leonard has shown to be selfish and soft..

Lol People comparing dinky commercials to a lifetime Jordan Brand deal in a bigger market. Admiral wishes he could've sniffed that kind of money with his endorsments.

The admiral had one of the best contracts in sports in his first few years as a spur . Doubt endorsement money ever mattered tbh . Dont remember the specifics but it was a contract along the lines that it allowed for adjustments to make sure he was amongst the top 2 earners of the nba.
Talk about sacrifice. Knowing the spurs couldnt afford to keep paying him that typeof contract & remain competitive. He tore it up & had it restructured . Took out the top earning component.

The biggest issue facing the spurs. Can the spurs afford another season of kawhi sitting with this mystery injury . Keep in mind he got his own group that decides if he clear to play or not. The precedent has been set, Spurs docs will have no sway. Kawhi wont want to play through pain even if he gets told he cant make it any worse. They have had a season to realize his pain threshold will have him sitting rather than playing. Spurs are in tight spot here.

interesting. Kawhi's team therefore placing all bets on a trade at the end of the season. Can Kawhi afford not to play for two entire seasons and come out with his credentials intact to re join the league as a top five player? Massive risk for him. The Spurs can chugg along quite dandy in the new season with the existing team +- a couple of tweaks riding LMA and developing their young talent. They do not desperately NEED to be a contender . They do very little or nothing under pressure. So they can easily freeze him and build smartly as they have always done. Mos interesting space to WATCH.

Derrick rose?
Well he won't be able to sit forever. Seems like if he wanted out he would have been traded already. Maybe there were offers. But all signs suggest the spurs really wanted him to return around the all star break. If be made the trade demand before that why would the spurs be expecting him back?
Now it could be a legit misdirection play, that kawhi is trying to threaten leaving to get the spurs super max. If kawhi is permanently injured he needs that leverage. I think that with other teams spoiling to create a drama explains most of the leaked info

He hasn't even openly said he wants to be in LA like PG and even Presti gave up two solid young players with upside for a 1 year rental of George. Get outta here with that "he has all the leverage" nonsense. Spurs have 50 million guaranteed worth of leverage on their side

What your failing to understand is that TD, Manu or Tony never sat out a whole year with basically a sore quad. All three of these guys probably can't believe what is going on, and they all probably can't fathom sitting out that long with a similar injury. That's the issue. That is the point.
GET THAT THROUGH YOU THICK SKULL.
Now, he could still be injured and if he still is, it's bad news because that means it could be chronic. He may be done as a top level player if he's still legit injured from an injury that doesn't require surgery.

What he does not want to acknowledge, is the simple reality that Leonard is refusing to play through pain. Players need to play through pain sometimes. Especially when the doctors are clearing you to play. Steph Curry has been injured like three times this season with his ankles. The ankles have been problematic in the past. He is not going to come back at 100% in the playoffs. But he is going to come back. This is what Leonard is refusing to do. Thus people are really losing respect for him.

I KNOW Duncans history... I'm saying it never has been bad to where he was struggling to climb stairs like Kawhi... Ppl on here were making a HUGE deal about how Kawhi was walking after games.... When Duncan was PLAYING, he never walked this badly... So obviously Kawhi is injured

U are purposefully missing the point.. YOU said Kawhi doesn't play through pain... That's obviously false since every other time he hasn't played, he was wither not cleared to play, or being rested by Pop

So if he isn't playing now, something is wrong! And u can tell because his walk wasn't a simple limp... Dude was struggling... That's an injury

Can only be good news but at the same time, houses are built and houses are sold all the time. It is a great time to build or buy in Texas.
Is it definitely his house, though? Didn't someone say that he was building one for his mom a few months ago? Could it be her house?

Everything points to Kawhi staying, yet u guys make up scenarios in which he is leaving... Amazing... I bet if he was building a house in NY, u would take it as absolute proof... A guy who is so dead set on leaving that he is purposefully sitting out isn't building a house in the place he wants to leave
I never said he was dead set on leaving but him building a house doesn't mean he is dead set on staying either. He can just sell it or rent it out if he signs somewhere else.
You're delusional if you dont think their will be serious negotiating to do this offseason especially with the supermax up for grabs and this lingering injury. It will all be used as leverage that could easily have him want to be in a bigger market to make up for the smaller salary Spurs might offer him because of his chronic injury now. If the Spurs offer Super max I believe he more than likely signs though.

"Leonard is refusing to play through pain"
it's apparently CHRONIC, ie long-term pain, and with risk of, or actual, degeneration of the tendons, muscles. Serious, chronic inflammation, and not just soreness amenable to post-game icing.

Could you please verify that this could cause degeneration? I have followed pretty closely but I do not remember reading anything about this.

If this is true, why is Kawhi trying to fleece the Jordan brand for a superstar shoe deal?
And more importantly, why is he fleecing the Spurs for $19M this season?
And MOST importantly, why will he try to fleece the Spurs for a $219M supermax contract if he knows he has a chronic condition causing degeneration of muscles and tendons?
If what you're saying is true, him signing a supermax deal would be fraudulent and criminal. Instead of a supermax, he needs to sign a league-minimum contract until he proves he's long-term healthy, or he should retire due to his chronic, degenerative condition.

I heard SAGirl is super sexy and would only be dumped by a gay guy, so it must be the Anderson revelation.

CC again pushing the LA narrative. Nobody ever says why KL would want out other than 1) Spurs "Mishandled" the injury or 2) Bigger endorsement deals elsewhere

According to CC we know that Kawhi would consider New York, Boston. If Kawhi really wants to be traded I don't see the Spurs trading him to the Lakers unless they know his medical condition is pretty bad.

Met a family member of a Spurs player last night .
2 things I learned.
Kawhi is going back to LA - whether it be Lakers or Clippers, it's happening. He wants to go home, the relationship problems with the Spurs and Spurs doctors is a big thing and its done, the reports are true.
Danny Green is gone too.
Cheers.
