Greatest competitor to ever dawn the Silver & Black tbh. Hats off to a 1st Ballot HOF career and thank you for all the memories in what is undoubtedly the greatest era of Spurs basketball ever, and for your part in 4 of the 5 Championship rings. Olé Manu. :cry

Duncan is the greatest Spur.
Robinson is clearly #2
Not sure if those would place Iceman, Tony or anyone else above him but as a Laker fan I would say one of the Spur I enjoyed watching the most outside of the big men in their prime.
Salute to Gino, dude was always nails.
Great competitor

lol supposed to be emotionally invested in derozan/aldridge/gay?

Murray/Walker/Poeltl are the new Medium Three. That's not too bad, honestly. But that Big Three is lacking a lot in the way of accomplishments. If Gay were at least in his prime, maybe it would be different. Too bad there's zero hope of Pau having a Diaw-like resurgence.

you can say those guys were young and Timmy was used poorly ... but using international rules that many NBA players have been using since 16 and under Team USA squads (some even play from 14 and under IIRC)
Manu was in the convo of the best player in that tourney ...period. And look at who he competed against. Argentina had some high level talent, but only Manu is a HOF lock of that group.
I know Spur fan brushes it aside out of Duncan love, but Gino led the most significant non NBA win of the past 25 years or so ...

The respect is real. Fans &haters both inside and outside the Spur family should pay respect.
We argued last week about his place among SG's no matter where you have him ranked, he is one of the great ones ...no doubt about that.
The Tony/Manu fan beef should be sidelined too.

With respect, as a non Spurs fan, he was one of my favorite players of all time, mainly and simply because of how hard and how fiercely he competed. And unlike guys like KG and AI, who I also admired because of their in game effort and intensity, Manu had none of their unlikable personality flaws, none of their douchebag tendencies. A true legend.

When the Spurs got eliminated by the Lakers in '02 I remember being bummed out about it. So I tried to find ways to be optimistic about the future and decided to download a Ginobili mix video. Back then youtube didn't exist and the video was over 200 MGs just for 5 minutes. At the time downloading it took me nearly any hour to do. I wondered if it was even worth it to download. After an hour I watched the mix tape and was amazed at how good Manu looked and was thinking wow this really was worth the download. I also believed after watching the video that he was going to be the final piece that would put the Spurs ahead of the Lakers.

Man, this really sucks. The big three era goes out with a whimper. Honestly, I know its best for the team he's not on it, but I really wish Tony was still around now. In the end the complete ushering in of a new era is for the best, but I have so many memories of Manu doing something - good and bad - that changed everything. More good than bad obviously.

For me, he's tied with Tony as the 3rd best Spur ever. Even last year Manu was able to give us thrills. I still remember the dunk in the 4th quarter of game 6 in the 2003 finals that really started the run that put that game away. Just a legend.

1. Tim
2. Manu
3. Danny Green
4. Bowen
5. Parker
6. D-Rob
7. Boris Diaw
8. Horry

10. Patty Mills (despite his latest contract)

Can't wait until they hang Manu's jersey next to Tim's.

2013 was the toughest sports moment for me to get over. It wasn't because the Spurs lost for the first time in the finals or because we blew the 5 point lead with like 20 seconds left that made me just stare with my mouth open stunned by what had happened. And this isn't a comment for some stupid debate about why we lost either. It was tough because Manu Ginobili after the game answered every single question and looked about as depressed and down as I had ever seen him. In that game 6 loss, you could see the passion and the love and the desire all mixed together with his disappointment and most likely resentment for himself during that one moment. Just something about that loss and seeing and hearing and in a way feeling Manu's emotions, it resonated within me.
So when we won in 2014, the first thing I did when I got back to SA was go to academy and buy myself a Spurs Championship shirt. And there were like 50 to choose from, but the one I got was Ginobili dunking over Bosh. To me, that was the ultimate moment for me as a Spurs fan and maybe the best moment in his career. And he's had so many great ones. So thank you Manu. I modeled my game (and long wild hair) after you so much so that random people would come up to me and say I played like him. Ginobili was my idol and it's been a privilege to watch him.

:lol and they didn’t even win it that year too. Loser ass Mavs

Mavs got what they deserved. They got favourable treatment from the refs in the Spurs series and they didn't deserve to be in the finals. I loved seeing them get the same treatment in the finals (getting screwed over by the refs) like they got against the Spurs. They never should have been there is the first place. I still get mad any time I see video footage of Miami celebrating that year (probably even more mad than 2013 footage). Spurs were the best team in 2006 and should have won it all. I feel like we definitely left that one on the table. It should have been a 3peat, or at the very least a back to back.

Clearly a foul but more contact than that has been swallowed by refs too

I have no problem with that foul, but what about Tim Duncan getting hacked on the final play of the game? There was just as much contact there. Fucking bullshit referring in that series (games 3 and 4 in Dallas were horrendous officiating in the 4th quarters of those games - Mavs got every benefit of the doubt call and both Tim and Manu fouled out of those games with bullshit fouls when they were dominating the Mavs - Lebron or someone like that would have never had those same fouls called on him/them). Spurs were the best team that year.

What game was it when Duncan got the foul called on him for getting out of the way of Dirk?

It was either game 3 or 4. One of the games Tim was dominating and taking over, and then he gets that bullshit foul call with Dirk stepping on his foot and fouling him out, then the other game Manu was dominating the 4th and he gets fouled out - both fouls that fouled out both Manu and Tim were unnecessary calls that were pretty ticky-tacky in my opinion (it's not TD's fault that Dirk was an uncoordinated SOB driving to the rim back then). Game 7, Tim got hacked on that final play - should have had two free throws. If Dirk got that foul call before that, TD should have had 2 free throws. Mavs got what they deserved. They should have won it all as the Spurs were the best team, but unfortunately they weren't good enough as they basically cheated their way past the Spurs, then NBA screwed them over in the finals.

Yes, todays NBA sucks.

The Warriors the most dominant team will eventually have a starting 5 of all-stars.

Good luck to LeBron in LA, he's hoping to pull off a miracle and knock the Warriors off early but if they are healthy don't see it happening.

Rockets will be about the same and this time Warriors will be ready to play them harder.

Spurs just trying to make playoffs again like last season.

Only thing interesting in the NBA is how the East plays out, does Boston go to Finals or does Toronto with Kawhi get in.

It's basically the Warriors title to lose this upcoming season. The only thing fun that could come out of it is if the Warriors lose.

Not surprised, but it's awesome to see the outpouring of respect and adulation from around the NBA world. From players to coaches to fans, all of them have something positive to say about Manu and the memories they share on and off the court with him.

He was a rare cat, man. He'll be missed tremendously.

Just as a reminder: Manu got voted to the all-star starting lineup this year. Not even Jordan accomplished that on his last year.

Silver´s NBA is all about GSW.

Also GSW has Rockets´number, the Carmelo addition would make things worse fatso will hurt his own team.

Lebron plays in LA because his son will be there in a couple years and also he saves himself from the embarrassment of playing vs GSW with a buncha scrubs adding more L´s to his Finals record.

Unless some injures visit GSW, they have the players, the calls, and shitty teams as rivals.

I say Boston goes to the Finals, have more time together but lets see.

Predictable and boring, it has been like that since 2015...

Manu.................Thank you for providing years of enjoyment!

Basketball is dead to me now until some rule change is brought in that puts the big man back in the game. I'm tired of the game evolving into nothing but a three point shooting contest.

Yep, I see Boston going to Finals they almost made it last season without the 2 all-stars but the NBA was sort of fun in 2015 an 2016 (Cavs pull out historic series win vs 73-9 Warriors).

It's been since Durant signed with Warriors that it's been a total predictable mess pretty much. It's even worse now, the Warriors have 5 all-stars. If healthy going to be pretty tough to eliminate in a 7 game playoff series for any team not in San Francisco.

Manu, we're going to miss seeing you at the AT&T this season. TV just doesn't do you justice. In person you are a magician. You've thrilled us fans for many years with your special passing abilities, not to mention your drives where you juke your opponent one way and you go the other with a slam or a twisting reverse layup. Enjoy your retirement. Spend lots of time with your wife and kids. And thanks for the memories. You were one of the best basketball players 'EVER' no matter what league or when playing for Argentina. Good luck, bud.

Going to miss him a lot but hoping he enjoys retirement. It sounds though like he's still going to be around the team like Timmy has.

:lol Fucking Fisher with the .3 bads.

BUT even using .3 is a compliment if you gonna Be real and honest. Manu did everything right. A contest without fouling, a heavily contested shot is very low %. And furthermore Fisher has to break his form and follow through on the release... Fisher was a clutch player but that shot was luck. Good luck Lakers, bad luck Spurs... Manu defended that play as best as anyone could...
Great photograph if I were still coaching I would use that Pic to demonstrate a perfect close/contest.

Huh? He would have been in the all-star game if he was voted in.

Well now, after 27 years of this team feeling great and being great. It feels like a part of me died yesterday. However, I will still wear my shield as a fan and watch the next stage. This summer has been brutal, Parker diminished and let go (was the right call), the coward Kawai showing his true colors and holding our off-season hostage and now Manu retiring. You cannot really expect much left from a player who gave everything for 17 years to your franchise. The consummate lightning to TimmyD's thunder on the court. He redefined the shooting guard position and ultimately was the best off the bench ALL TIME. Euro step your way in to the hall of fame, and may you and your family enjoy a good long healthy life!

I wonder if he'd be open to being a fullfledged assistant coach? Traveling with the team, etc.

Manu sacrificed a lot. Only 2 All Star appearances. Play-wise, I consider him a top 3 SG all time. The stats really hurt his case though.
