too bad it wasn’t kawhi, green, gasol for demar, siakom, ibaka.

He always struggles against screen players like Fournier(Beal, Redick, etc)..
It's the Raptors primary defensive weakness right now, since Kawhi is no longer himself on that end and Nurse sticks with Van Vleet's midget ass..

Danny battled his way to a competent statline tonight. For most of the game, he wasn't playing efficient ball, but he hit a few important shots down the stretch to get his team the win. His ability to do that as a fourth/fifth option was always an X factor for the Spurs. They don't have anyone like that now. Cun tried last night, but that felt like a career performance from him.

Lowry has been over riding Nick Nurses' plays few times this year. He probably did the same here. Nurse is terrible so far at designing plays.

The Raptors are saying in the postgame that the play was for Danny all along. And that is how it looked. They used Kawhi as a decoy. The inbounds pass was a step late so they're fortunate it worked.

The play looked pretty clear for Green. Kawhi didn't sell his decoy role very well, so if he was actually expecting the ball, it would have been hard for him to get a shot. You gotta give Nurse a ton of credit for going with Green down the stretch, given his relatively poor night. I can only think of three designed game-winning attempts for Green in his Spurs career. Maybe four if you count that play against Dallas when he was a garbage-time guy. They must really like him there.

I haven't heard exactly what Danny said, in context. Coach Nurse described the play in the postgame and he stated explicitly that the play was for Danny, as the first option.
One thing to like about Danny is that he is so much a team player. Maybe he just never thinks of himself as the #1 guy. After the recent crap with Durant and Draymond, and Butler, etc. it's a wonderfully refreshing attitude.

Danny definitely doesn't try to be the star of the team, even if he acts like a total celebrity outside the game. Dude has played with Shaq, Lebron, the Spurs' Big Three, Leonard and Lowry. There's a non-zero chance that GS lets Klay walk and convinces Danny to take the MLE next year. He seems to really hate having a spotlight on him. Any time the press tries to tell him how well he played, he brushes it off. Just the prototypical role-player.

Danny will be the odd man out when Murray/LW4 are playing at full speed, and Poeltl has a lot of upsides as a center, cheaper and at 23yrs old. I’m happy for Danny but the move was inevitable imo.

While giving up Danny was obviously extremely retarded and I disagree that the trade could have been any worse (if RC had given up a pick instead of receiving one then he should have just been fired immediately), Danny would absolutely be trash on this year's roster.
We have nowhere near the playmakers that Toronto has and Nurse has already put in place a better system than Pop 15 games into his coaching career.
Knowing current Pop, Danny would have been relegated to Bryn's water boy this year even if he hadn't been traded out.
+1. Sad but extremely true.
Has anyone mentioned Danny League has never iced a mid-range fadeaway game-winner over three defenders on Pop's watch? Because goddamn 31 year old Danny is killing it up north.

What a coincidence that two players basically spending their entire professional careers in the GOAT PATFO's system, left for dead the last 3 seasons or sice Duncan retired, are thriving once again.

Not in Pop's system. He'd be just another broken down player getting pulled out of games for missing a defensive assignment

Terrible take. Tbh. But I get your point. Would've liked to see Derrick White more since he is our best perimeter defender. Pop has to play him more but if he can't mesh with DeRozan then it doesn't matter.

I think the Raptors are going to walk the eastern conference.
But I think they'll lose in 5 games to the Warriors. Their interior defense needs some work.
Having said that, it is the best Toronto related team in 20 years. Siakim has to be the MIP this year.

Frankly as I was watching Danny I was thinking if PATFO is not even just a little remorseful Danny has had a renaissance. I assume Kawhi is not regarded in a positive light by the FO and news of his success must be bitter and salty... but damn with Danny. I'd be going to work dressed in black like a goth or a funeral all season in penitence for that trade.

I still feel conflicted watching Kawhi. I can root for Danny easily and the rest of the guys, but when Kawhi fucks up I actually don't mind. Which sucks cuz Rap shave always been my #2 team.
Shame Spurs are worse than most G-League teams this year.
