Our defense is fucking trash.. They give up what? 5 YPA? I'm surprised the national talking heads haven't really pointed this out before allowing whatever that faggot's name is score 4 TD's on him.. We need to let some people walk and bring in a whole new wave of rookies to revamp this trash
They haven't been able to stop the run one lick since that fateful Saturday night against the Rams in January. Even in week 1, Barkley ran all over us even though we won big. We can't. stop. the. run. We're like the Chiefs in that regard. You never want to be compared to an Andy Reid defense, never ever. Pathetic.

Did the catch get correctly awarded on replay?
Or did Carrots minor PMS get wrung up by butthurt ref with far worse PMS?
Only saw highlights with sound down. Did the Cowgirls get robbed on that one?
Yes, it did get reversed, and yes it was a rotten call, and Carrot did have the right to be upset, and the ref pulled a 2007 Joey Crawford vs. Timmy. It didn't affect the game however because the very next play Zeke went for 28 yards to erase the 1st & 25.
The play/bad decision of the game that ruined our last ditch comeback attempt was when we had the ball down 10 with 2:25 left at the GB 25, we should have kicked the field goal right then and there which preserved our chance to kick deep instead of playing for the TD and onside kick which is futile because onside kicks (especially when they know it's coming) just don't work in the NFL. Reduce the deficit to 7 and kick deep, with one timeout and the 2 minute warning in tow you get the ball back with around 1:15-1:20, no timeouts, and probably 70-80 yards to go barring a return. It's not a great chance if you have Dak as your QB, but it's still far better than relying on an impossible onside kick.

That's actually not a bad idea with today's onside kick rules. Most of the casual fans wouldn't understand the logic there and The Garrettbot would've been ripped to shreds if it didn't work.

Absolutely. Most coaches, especially those of the archaic boring old guard, don't have my elite mathematical, analytical, situational mind... even Sean McVay is a failure in that regard. He's a millennial but he doesn't do analytics, sort of like a black QB that doesn't run. Meh.
I could only think of 3 coaches who could actually think of and execute my ideas on the spot... the Colts' Reich, Doug Pederson, and possibly Belichick. Andy Reid and Sean McVay are losers that kick FGs from the one yard line, I don't like them at all.
The key to managing late game situations when you're losing... completely forget the onside kick as a viable possibility. Onside kicks don't work in today's NFL with today's NFL rules. Obviously, if it's your only possible option it's still worth a shot, but it's better to exhaust all possibilities that don't involve relying on an onside kick before getting to that.
The number 1 rule if I'm owning, managing, directing, coordinating, or coaching a team: Never, ever burn timeouts in the 3rd quarter. (I'm looking at you, Sean McVay.) Take the delay and loss of 5 yards, if necessary. Get to the line quickly after big plays, etc. And you better be >95% sure you're right if you challenge a play. Don't challenge PI, it almost never works.

It did affect the game because Garrett didn't have a challenge to use on the Michael Gallup mugging. Still would have taken a miracle to win. But having to lose a challenge when you're right is BS.

If I was a coach, I'd make it simple and just tie a % around each outcome and do basic fraction multiplication. With today's rules, I would give a successful onside kick recovery a 5% chance.
Your scenanario:
Kick the 43 yard field goal (with Maher I'd give it a 72% chance) * the chance of getting Green Bay to go 3 and out (55% chance) * the chance of scoring a touchdown after getting the ball back with 1:15-1:20 and no timeouts (20% chance imo) --> .72 * .55 * .2 comes out to about an 8% chance of sending it to overtime.
Now what about the chance of Dallas scoring the touchdown and then recovering the onside kick like they originally intended?
With the way they were moving the ball, I'd give them a 40% of scoring a TD yesterday when they had the ball at the 25 * 5% chance of recovering the onside kick * 60% chance of kicking the field goal if they recovered the kick --> .4 * .05 *.6 comes out to a little over 1%
Your scenario makes the most sense, but if that strategy was even encoded in The Bot's firmware, I guarantee you he still wouldn't do it because it was still so low and he would get ridiculed when they likely go on to lose anyway

I agree, I think it was stupid competition committee rejected the "you get back every challenge you win" idea, having to get BOTH of the first two right to get the third is down syndrome shit. That paired with reducing OT to 10 minutes and not adding something to the game to eliminate or decrease the risk of ties, is why competition committee is retarded.

You're exactly right on all points, good analytics info, and also the fact that Garrett is too much of a pussy to do something the media might cry at him for, unlike Big Balls Doug Pederson.
Onside kicks with the new rules were 4% last year, and are 0% so far in 2019. I get why the competition committee nixed the 4th & 15 idea this past offseason -- that's just way too easy, especially if you have a Mahomes or Rodgers or even Wentz at QB.
I think next year you come back with a 4th & 25 proposal instead (which can only be used once per game) and the biggest point, NO AUTOMATIC FIRST DOWNS until after the down has been converted. All "Automatic First Down" penalties against the defense, until the initial series is converted, are exactly 15 yards, repeat 4th down -- making it 4th & 10, so a defense would have to receive two of such penalties for the offense to convert by penalty. (Such as DPI [even longer PI's are a max of 15 yards and no automatic first], DHolding, Illegal Contact, RTP, illegal hands to the face, personal fouls, helmet/helmet stuff, unsportsmanlike conduct.)

No wonder Owens hates The Bot so much. I'll always blame Garrett for those two underachieving teams in 2007 and 2008, and criminally underutilizing most of his offensive weapons especially Owens by forcing his retarded "Air Coryell" offense. It worked in the 07 regular season because of the ridiculous talent on the team (had like 13 pro bowlers or something?), but once teams had time to adjust they shut it down in the playoffs and in 08 when the whole team melted down after being Super Bowl favorites. That's where my hate for CarrotBot started
He had a HOF receiver in Owens who killed teams in SF on short drag routes, but The Bot only called him to run flies and stop n go routes. Miles Austin could've killed teams on the slant, but he was also wildly misused those seasons. And then of course, having a stable of running backs plus a big mauling offensive line only to go pass first. That line should've been mauling other D-lines but his offense forced them to stand the whole game and wear down in the 4th quarter. Who could forget Andre Gurode's shitty shotgun snaps? Yet Garrett insisted on going shotgun most of the time even on run plays. Another example of this clown not knowing how to scheme to his players' strengths

Reminds me right before cupcake Wade Phillips was fired. Jerruh had the exact same demeanour for post game interviews. My guess is if we go 1-2 or worse in the next 3 games or if we lose badly on national TV, then JG will get the axe and someone will interim until we can coax Bill Cowher out of retirement.

Eagles are inconsistent in their own right, so probably wont happen but I'm definitely rooting for L's at this point so The Bot gets canned at the end of the season. Doubtful Jerruh cans his ass midseason. The Wade Phillips situation was rare in which the team basically quit and turned into the 08 Lions. Something had to be done asap, as the Cowboys didn't even look like an NFL product his last few weeks at the helm.
With The Bot, they're always competitive in their typical 8-8 mediocre fashion, but it's a good sign that players gave him the cold shoulder last week when he was doing his usual high five, attaboy, grabass routine when they came back to the sideline

The Cowboys have the bye after this week, so a blowout loss would be the best possible (and actually a legit) shot of the axing actually happening during the middle of the season. A landslide home loss to a division rival (that just followed an embarrassing loss to a winless, hapless opponent) just might actually do the trick. I'm hopeful.
The one caveat about that team was that it had no quarterback, because Romo went down very early that season and it had no viable NFL caliber backup until they signed Jon Kitna late in that season, which turned out to be a mistake because they ultimately won a few games down the stretch that cost them some draft positions. It would have been better to lose out and go 1-15 that year.

You are completely mistaken my friend. They had Kitna the whole time in 2010, you're probably thinking of 2008 where Romo was hurt those few games when Brad Johnson came in and played like complete dogshit.
Kitna was there in 2010, and they had the same roster when The Bot took over and they went 5-3 the rest of the way. That was the most blatant midseason mutiny I've ever seen

tbh I think it was later that same season when Kitna went down. Kitna was a pretty solid backup when he was here. Brad Johnson I remember played three games in 2008 and was complete trash which ended up costing the Cowboys a playoff spot when they got blown out by the 2-14 Rams

Not sure, but I think The Bot tried to emulate the Mike Martz offense from St Louis which was retarded since everybody saw that system get exposed at the end of his tenure with the Rams. They only won the Super Bowl because Vermeil was able to keep him in check by forcing more run plays into the playbook. Once Martz took full control, Warner kept getting killed back there which led to all those injuries. No wonder he went back to the Pro Bowl once he left and went to Arizona.
Speaking of The Bot not knowing his personnel, you could actually argue that his fetish for this type of offense ruined the team during the trio of 8-8 seasons. There were a handful of games (2011 against Detroit and 2013 against Green Bay come to mind) where they would get off to a big lead early by establishing the run only to go full Air Raid in the second half to let the other team back in for no reason whatsofuckingever. They had to stick to the run in 2014 because it was just too dominant, and they had to keep the defense off the field after the disastrous season they had the year before.
However, none of this compares to the “Garrett gimmicks” that other teams always sniffed out. Lining up the athletic, backup TE (Bennett, Escobar, Gathers) our wide for the goal line fade that never worked. rofl and who can forget about the FB dive with Marion Barber. I think it worked the first time, and then after that every team sniffed it out and would tackle him for a loss
In short, fuck Garrett. This guy has squandered so many potential seasons at his helm and HE'S STILL HERE!

I wish I could give 5 likes to this post. Quality.
2013, was my freshman semester in college and my first time living in the Dallas metro area (Denton). It was my first time intimately watching all 16 games plus pretty much every game from the rest of the league. The Green Bay game was the worst because we were up 28-3 and the Packers had Matt Flynn not Rodgers at QB, but there were a handful of other games that year that were lost on that same concept. The Detroit road game..... ugh, maybe the most sickening loss ever. Even in week 2 they refused to run the ball against the Chiefs even though Frederick was getting his lunch eaten by Poe in pass protection all game. They had success running in week 4 but didn't stick to it and let Philip Rivers tear them a new asshole. Even in their wins it was a problem.
How did Garrett keep his job after going 8-8 in three straight seasons, tbh? I know he had a solid Year 4 but he shouldn't have been given that chance. Losing to a hapless Green Bay after going up 4 scores should have gotten him fired on the spot. Don't give me Kyle Orton week 17... if Romo didn't bail out Garrett in the very last minute of the previous game @ Redskins, they never would have had a chance.

Bennett was actually good last year with the Eagles despite his old age. He had a fairly late start to his career so he might be better longer, ala Grant Hill.
He'll bring the nasty, but will the drama be worth it? Could be a Hardy 2.0 situation. Cowboys had his brother and they're pretty much the same personality. Can't wait for the first time him and Witten get into a punching match in practice.

He'll bring the nasty, but will the drama be worth it? Could be a Hardy 2.0 situation. Cowboys had his brother and they're pretty much the same personality. Can't wait for the first time him and Witten get into a punching match in practice.

I think he's referring to the potential to be a locker room cancer, not actual ability or level of play

thats the funny part. comparing hardy's locker room issues to bennett is absurd. their on field effectiveness was actually comparable at bennett's peak

Here at the Dallas Football Cowboys organization we pride ourselves in hiring young men .... AND women ..... with character ....... character.......
With that being said, I am proud to welcome the newest member of the Dallas Football Cowboys to the Dallas Football Cowboys.....character is the reason we brought in Michael Bennett....
Now if you define character by being a three time pro bowler .... then I would say Michael Bennett has character....character....
And if you ask me how character fits in with him and his brother trashing every team they've been with.....my answer to you would be.....
"Hey look we're just focused on the New York Football Giants right now....not gonna get into any of that....we're just taking it day by day.....we're just focused on the New York Football Giants right He was ok in the locker room until they went on that long losing streak and he gave a hard, violent shove to the special teams coach at the time (Bissachia) over giving up the game winning kickoff return to the Giants' Dwayne Fucking Harris of all people.

That was one of a handful.
Before the game against the Patriots that year, he said in an interview that he'd come out against Brady "guns blazing" (poor taste after the incident with pushing the girl onto a couch full of loaded guns) and he kept waffling back and forth about whether he even did that in the first place despite the video evidence. And Jerry actually called him a "team leader" at one point, whatever that meant.

right, he wasn't referring to the incident with Nicole Holder, but it was a very poor choice of words considering that.

I know there's a lot of noise.....noise.....surrounding this year's trade deadline.....
As part of the duties of my position as head coach of the Dallas Football Cowboys organization...we're constantly evaluating and looking at the tape....and trying to bring in the RIGHT kind of football players.....
We are in discussion with the New York Football Jets over upgrading the safety position of the Dallas Football Cowboys...and with that being said......I am proud to announce the newest starting safety for your team is.....Jeff Heath!

Isn't his rookie deal expiring soon? I'll admit I'm very ignorant to the financial side of the NFL, but for a young, pro bowl caliber player I wouldn't mind ponying up (i.e. Amari last year).
My issue is, if we added Adams too that's just another young guy we'll have to lock up meaning Byron, LVE, or Smith would then have to walk later I'd think. You can only have so much talent tbh

Yeah but the Jets wanted a first and two seconds instead of just one like they got Amari for.
Edited: not multiple firsts

right. Or you could have traded say Zack Martin for Adams since the Jets have had such major problems on the OL especially at guard this year

I know what you guys are thinking, but the other thing y'all have to consider is that, is dedicating such a high % of the salary cap to O-Line such a good idea? Especially at guard where guys are fairly replaceable. Sure Martin is one of the best at his position. But didn't the rushing attack get strangled against the Saints? Considering how much money you have invested into this OL, they should be able to run consistently well against any D-Line in the league, plus hold up better than most teams in pass protection. But they haven't shown that consistency even when healthy (all 5 starters played in the Saints game, and they got buttfucked).
Might be better off balancing the team a little better, than just dedicating so much to the QB, WR1, RB1, OL and one DE. Think the Patriots.

A Sunday between the months of September and January happened, that's what happened.
Check out my posting average on ST from mid February all the way up to August... it's paltry. At least with this account. With my previous accounts in previous years, that was a different era when I actually cared about the Spurs, pre-Zaza, but that's gone by the wayside since.

Dak Prescott headed to tag after no progress on new deal
Long-term contract extensions are rare during the season. If there is a window, however, the bye week can present it.
However, with the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) and quarterback Dak Prescott (http://www.nfl.com/player/dakprescott/2555260/profile), no progress was made on contract talks during the off week, sources say. In fact, negotiations in earnest have not gone on for some time.
This means Prescott is headed toward the franchise tag this offseason. At this point in the season, with a tag looming, it's hard to imagine a new deal getting done. That said, neither side has put a deadline on it and talks could kick into gear at any point. As Dallas is set to face the Minnesota Vikings (http://www.nfl.com/teams/minnesotavikings/profile?team=MIN) tonight, there is "nothing going on," per one source.
If the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) gave Prescott the exclusive franchise tag, it would cost them more than $33 million. If he's tagged again in 2021, it would eclipse $40 million, and he could become a free agent in 2022 if they haven't struck a pact.
For Prescott, his play for the NFC East-leading Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) has earned him a spot among the game's richest players. His passer rating of 102.5 is among the best efforts in his career, despite the pressure to perform in a contract year.
This sets up an interesting situation for two looming contracts. With Prescott slated for the franchise tag, receiver Amari Cooper (http://www.nfl.com/player/amaricooper/2552487/profile) is also in a contract year. Cooper has said he's comfortable waiting until after the season for a new deal.
Could Dallas tag Prescott and then transition tag Cooper? In the final year of the Collective Bargaining Agreement only, they can. Time will tell how they handle it.

Garrett gets a D+ for the Vikings loss. Only "+" because a) he actually did let Dak air it out more than usual, and b) because he didn't squander any precious second half timeouts until he actually needed to use them.
But those inexplicably horrible, mind-numbingly stupid run calls when the run game wasn't working all night... just awful.

also, :lmao :lmao :lmao at you foolish clowns who wouldn't have traded Zack Martin straight up for Jamal Adams. Adams is a superstar Kam Chancellor clone (who would probably cost less than Martin on a per year basis), while the Cowboys' pathetic interior offensive line got royally buttfucked in the run game again for the 3rd time just this season alone.
This team would win a super bowl with Dak, Cooper, more resources allocated to defense (DTs, a star SS), maybe another stud receiver and tight end, and less money hogged up by this way-underachieving offensive line. Keep Tyron Smith and L. Collins, but Frederick and Martin can go. They just don't get the push they used to before they got paid.
And get rid of the Zeke contract, too. RBs are replaceable, jeez. Draft and replace.

while i dont think zeke's talent is easily replaceable (i do think he's a top 3 or top 5 back in the league), i think it's pretty redundant to pay huge money to your entire OL while also paying huge money for the back.
the cowboys are projected to have a healthy amount of cap space next summer, but on top of paying dak and cooper, they have some other pending FA's like byron jones, bennett/quinn, jeff heath (he's not very good, but is still a starter).
if they want to re-up dak and cooper, they're not going to be able to substantially upgrade via FA, so just roll with what they have and hope draft picks pan out

Jerry Jones Announces The Cowboys Are Always "Great In Eight-and-Eight"
"We really consider eight wins to be a successful season," described Jerry Jones, the Arkansas-based multi-billionaire owner of the Dallas Cowboys. "We always set out every season, every training camp, for the ultimate goal of achieving an eight-win season. Eight wins is a really successful season, and I definitely think that we, really, should all consider ourselves really, really fortunate that we have the ideal head coach in place to acheive our goals as a franchise. We're always great in eight-and-eight."

The Front Office still has memories of 2015 when they cut Murray and gambled that the underwear thief would step in and produce just as much with that offensive line, which obviously backfired big time. That whole season was a trainwreck though for many other reasons, but you can tell Bot and the front office are scared of it happening again hence paying the O-line and Zeke

yeah, and part of the reason McFadden didn't do even better was the fact there was no respect for the historically lousy passing game. Lamar Jackson is prime Peyton Manning compared to the options we had at QB in 2015.

Garrett has not been and never will be more than an average coach. Continuing to waste the prime seasons of this current roster (which is a very talented group) is not acceptable. I wish I knew the right person for the job, but I don't. The current coaching staff (which is managed by Garrett) does not add enough juice to the overall team. Losing two very winnable home games to GB and Minn along with the horrible performance against the Jets is enough ammunition to end Garrett's tenure in Dallas.

yeah and The Bot's answer to that was to check it down to Witten/Dunbar every game. Rarely did a pass go over 10 yards and teams figured that out quickly and the moron never even tried to adjust

:lol
Off the very top of my head I can think of a handful of games before this season which showed The Bot is not a quality head coach
2013 vs Green Bay - historic meltdown where they blew a 26-3 lead to Matt Flynn at home. The Boys were gashing the Packers in the run game, but The Bot for some reason up by 20+ decided to go full Air Raid on offense and let the Packers back in. Even Packers players after the game were laughing at Garrett for giving up on the run game
2011 @ Arizona - historic "icing his own kicker" game which wasn't even the worst part. They were right on the edge of FG range with 30 seconds left and two timeouts with the clock running. The Bot having no clue what to do just stood there "deer in the headlights" and waited for Romo to spike it with a few seconds left. Could've easily gotten 2-3 more plays in before the FG attempt
2012 @ Baltimore - another game where they were gashing the opponent only for him to turn into Mike Leach letting the other team back into the game. Terrible clock management at the end, led to a long missed FG where they could've easily gotten a closer attempt if the retard could actually make calm decisions under pressure
2015 vs Atlanta - The Bot's offensive gameplan in their first game after the Romo injury was to check it down to the RB every play. Falcons eventually crowded the LOS and game over, no adjustment
2017 vs Atlanta - classic case of The Bot unable to adjust when one key player is out with an injury. Tyron Smith is out with an injury, and Adrian Clayborn all of a sudden looks Canton-bound with a six sack game against the backup left tackle. The Bot refused to adjust by never giving help and running his stupid Air Coryell offense instead of shortening the routes
Most of the 2008 season - went into more detail about this one earlier, but The Bot's horrible "Mike Martz-style" offense was a terrible fit with this extremely talented personnel. Other defenses adjusted to it, and one of the most talented Cowboy teams ever flamed out and completely missed the playoffs due to the offense completely getting shutdown the second half of the season.
2013 vs Minnesota - rofl, the "4 carry game" for Demarco Murray when he was averaging 8 YPC. Cowboys got dragged into an unnecessary nailbiter with a bad team by abandoning the successful running game once again
2014 vs SF - Once again, the running game was grinding up yards but Bot went pass happy with a rusty Tony Romo who just came back from injury and cost them the game with one backbreaking INT after another. Romo gets his share of the blame, but he was clearly rusty as evidenced by his MVP-level play the rest of the year. No reason for the Bot to abandon the ground game
2017 vs SEA - Sounding like a broken record, Cowboys were moving the ball against the Seahawks, but Dez went full ooga booga on the sidelines over not getting the ball even though they were winning. Bot being the doormat he was, called for the offense to force it to Bryant leading to turnover and stalled drives. Seahawks eventually came back and won of course

we'll see. I'm not betting on it but NE seems more vulnerable as ever. Of course the bot is the type to not take advantage of it. But if they can get Zeke going, it's going to be hard for the Pats to stop all of the CB weapons.

The Buffalo game has all the makings of being a typical "Bot Bounceback" game where they come back after a humiliating loss, beat a decent team, and everyone forgives Garrett for a little while longer

Add to the fact that Buffalo is quite possibly the worst 8-3 team that ever existed in the NFL. Fool's gold if there ever was any. Not only has the AFC East in general had the easiest schedule in recent memory (they play the one-trick-pony AFC North, the mediocre to awful NFC East, and the awful Dolphins and Jets) but the Bills also got to play the Titans with Mariota and the lousy-ass Broncos.
Buffalo flat-out isn't good, especially on offense. Their run D can be exposed too (e.g. Eagles home loss last month), and the Cowboys run well at home. Plus, Romo is in the building with the CBS mic.

Everyone including Garrett himself knows he's gone after this season. That's the first game I've ever seen where he wasn't smiling, clapping, or shoving his players around after a big play. That absurd decision to go for it on 4th down from their own 20 yard line in the first half just shows he doesn't give a fuck anymore

It wasn't an absurd decision. If it was 4th and 2 or longer, maybe. But 4th & inches from just about anywhere in most situations (with a few exceptions like if you're trying to go up 2 scores late) is almost always the +EV right analytical move. Part of it is because the QB sneak with that little to gain is downright unstoppable.
Also, the Cowboys are pretty much locked into the #4 seed (Eagles completely depleted by injuries) so Garrett will have one final opportunity to make a cinderella run. If he makes the NFCCG, not sure he doesn't get a new contract here.

2020 Offseason agenda:
- sign Garrett to a 1 year prove it deal
- tag and trade Dak for a couple firsts. Start Cooper Rush/Clayton Thorson/Mike White/whoever
- pay Cooper
- trade Frederick or make him a cap casualty. He hasn't been good this year and he's way too expensive.
2020 Season Agenda:
- #TankforLawrence
- fire Garrett on Black Monday after Week 17 next year. If Jerry can't stomach losing him altogether, make him an assistant talent manager or whatever.
2021 Offseason Agenda:
- Hire Lincoln Riley or Urban Meyer
- Draft Trevor Lawrence #1 Overall

obviously happy as everyone else with how our offense looks, but us being hyped as a Superbowl contender already is typical marketing BS. None of our opponents have won a game, heck even Tampa Bay is putting it on the Giants. '
These next two weeks are going to be big. If we can handle Green Bay, I'll start buying into this being a potentially special season but if we lose another shoot out to Aaron Rodgers then it's same old Cowboys IMO

Bot's inability to ever craft a unique gameplan when certain players are in and out cost the team again against Chicago. They had Trevaythan, Hicks, and Smith out yet The Bot did nothing to target that area of the field. It's shit like this that we've seen over and over and over for years. He just rides with the stupid "we do what we do" mentality, which is basically just run it down their throat no matter what the opponent is showing. In today's game that approach just doesn't work. You can't just line up and mow down your opponent week after week, the talent gap just isn't that large, you have to be creative

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001088655/article/jerry-jones-believes-big-things-could-still-be-in-store-for-cowboys
IRVING, TX -- This moment -- the bounce in Jerry Jones' step as he made his way into the locker room, the extra sparkle in the glittery star on his left lapel, the smile that finally creased his face again -- was thick with irony. It was, after all, nearly a year ago, when the Dallas Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL)' crushing playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams (http://www.nfl.com/teams/losangelesrams/profile?team=LA) first made Jerry Jones seriously consider life after Jason Garrett. Now, it is the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL)' 44-21 crushing of the Rams (http://www.nfl.com/teams/losangelesrams/profile?team=LA) Sunday afternoon that may give Garrett renewed life. Jerry Jones believes again. In the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL). In Garrett. In all that is good about football.
"You would be pretty shallow if you said this game changes a lot of your mind about Jason," Jones said. "And I say that positively about Jason. I've said that many times in speaking about Jason Garrett. Jason Garrett checks a lot of boxes for me, the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL), sports and the NFL, checks a lot of boxes positively. This game didn't change that. It shows, though, he can coach the team to come out here to get physical when they are down, when the situations are a challenge. Nothing I'd like better than to ride his coattails to a fairy tale here."
Jones feels the ups and downs of his team as acutely as any fan does and this victory, after three straight losses and a month of misery, may have been as important to his psyche as it was to the team's. It came after a miserable start -- a screwy coin flip fiasco, an opening kickoff that sailed out of bounds, defensive penalties on third downs that extended the first two Rams (http://www.nfl.com/teams/losangelesrams/profile?team=LA) drives -- that seemed to portend more disaster ahead. It came with the offensive line physically overwhelming the Rams (http://www.nfl.com/teams/losangelesrams/profile?team=LA) to the tune of 263 yards rushing. It came with two beloved and aging Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) providing big-play heroics -- a one-handed touchdown catch by Jason Witten (http://www.nfl.com/player/jasonwitten/2505629/profile), an interception by Sean Lee (http://www.nfl.com/player/seanlee/496937/profile) -- that Jones called inspirational.
Jones has a gift for storytelling and this is the kind of narrative he aches to believe the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) can still write, full of the resilience and grit of any good western. A win over the Philadelphia Eagles (http://www.nfl.com/teams/philadelphiaeagles/profile?team=PHI) next Sunday, improbably, will give the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) the NFC East title.
More immediately, a win like this -- against the defending NFC champion that had so much at stake, too -- gives the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) a shot of credibility, just as the loss to the Jets (http://www.nfl.com/teams/newyorkjets/profile?team=NYJ) stripped away their early overinflated sense of selves. That it seemingly came out of nowhere, with the season slipping away, only enhanced the surrealness. It is their first victory against an opponent with a winning record, their first at home since Oct. 20. The locker room was ebullient, of course. Dak Prescott (http://www.nfl.com/player/dakprescott/2555260/profile) was able to joke about his role in the coin flip confusion. Where was all of this -- the physicality, the urgency, the energy -- all season? Jones didn't want to go there. He is just happy the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) are going to get a renewed sense of confidence when they so desperately need it.
It also, not incidentally, quiets for a few days the narrative that has dominated a large chunk of NFL chatter for the last month, since Jones set fire to the seat beneath Garrett after the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) lost a winnable game to the Patriots (http://www.nfl.com/teams/newenglandpatriots/profile?team=NE). That night, he noted that for the makeup of this team, he should not be as frustrated as he has been. That was Jones, the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL)' general manager, saying that for the high-priced talent on his roster, the results should be a lot better. He was not wrong then and he would not be wrong now. That the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) are clawing for a playoff spot with as much offensive talent as they have points the biggest fingers at the coaching staff. As the losses piled up, the decision seemed all but made, with Jones even musing about the relative merits of college coaches making the leap to the pros. Garrett tried everything to rally his team. Last week, he showed them a highlight reel of good plays, many taken from last year. It seemed hokey and desperate. It also may have worked.
And for a least a week, the seemingly-inevitable trajectory has been rerouted.
"That implies that I had concluded and had assessed the future and that's not correct," Jones said. "I had not reached that, and wouldn't under these circumstances until this season is over. What it does remind me is that the season is not over."
Jones is an inveterate optimist and he sincerely believes that big things could still be in store for his 7-7 team, despite the fact that they could win the division as a .500 team, the kings of a very low hill. The celebration Sunday notwithstanding, it seems nearly certain that Garrett will have to take the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) on a deep playoff run to get a new contract. That seems unlikely, given that if the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) win the division, they will have to host a wild card team that will have a much better record.
Whatever. There is plenty of time for that later. Sunday was about Jones spinning the team's shortcomings into the launching point for an inspirational turnaround, a plot point on which to build a stirring ending.
"We've seen how we played on balance for several weeks," he said. "When I see a team that can take it on the chin the way this team has and turn around and have a game like today against the Rams (http://www.nfl.com/teams/losangelesrams/profile?team=LA), that shows me it's there. I've seen these guys individually and as a team really handle adversity."
They have. After all, if this game was a reminder that the season is not over, that means that even Jones -- who took a brief oratorical detour Sunday to talk about seeing dreams made -- thought, it fact, that the season might be over. He did, as it turns out. The dreamer is a pragmatist, too, after all. And Jones knows that as good as Sunday was, he is only now waking up from his earlier nightmare. And as with any dream, there are still so many questions left to answer about what this all means in the end.
"I can sure count in terms of knowing where you are statistically," Jones said. "That loss against Chicago set me down pretty hard. We've had other disappointing losses, but I didn't expect that against Chicago. I didn't expect Chicago to play as well against us as they played. I must tell you, our team played above my expectations tonight. I'm really proud of them. Just as much above my expectations tonight as we played below expectations in Chicago."

this is pretty much a win and in game considering both teams play the two NFC East doormats next week. With that being said, I think the Cowboys will shit the bed per par etc as they always have done in "win and in" games. Not only that, but The Bot will win next week's meaningless game at home to Washington to go 8-8 and miss the playoffs going full circle.
I except the full array of miscues that we usually see under The Bot in order for the Garrett tenure to end in style. Big plays called back due to holding/illegal shift, touchdowns called back due to offensive PI, not sticking to the run, and icing his own kicker at some point.

The father of Dallas Cowboys (https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/_/name/dal/dallas-cowboys) running back Ezekiel Elliott (https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3051392/ezekiel-elliott) has been charged after his wild cat allegedly attacked a neighbor's dog in Ohio in October, according to multiple reports. According to the reports, Stacy Elliott, also known as Stacy El-Muhammad, is facing 21 charges -- including allowing a dangerous wild animal to escape, failure to notify of a dangerous wild animal escape and possession of a dangerous wild animal -- from a number of Ohio and local agencies after his serval, an African wild cat, got loose in Violet Township, Ohio, on Oct. 13 and allegedly attacked the dog.

Win and in for the Boys confirmed, gracias.
Lose, and the Bot still lives to have a playoff possibility:
"If the Cowboys lose to the Eagles, they would need to beat Washington in Week 17 and have the Giants beat the Eagles. That would leave both teams at 8-8 and their head-to-head record would be even. Then it would move to the division record, and under this scenario Dallas would win the tiebreaker with a 5-1 division record versus the Eagles 4-2 record."

rofl would be funny if we beat the Eagles and then The Bot decided to go all out the last week just to avoid the '8-8' stigma in a meaningless game. He did exactly that our last game in 2017 against Philadelphia where neither team had anything to play for. Dallas was already eliminated and Philly had the #1 seed clinched. God that would be foolish. At the very least, Dak and Cooper need some rest. Cooper comes out every other play it seems like. They were in 3rd down situations the other day in 3 WR sets and Cooper wasn't one of the three. He's clearly not close to 100%. And Dak with his shoulder.
Tavon Austin isn't close to an NFL caliber wide receiver. He's a fun gimmick option and decent as a kick/punt returner but that's it.

I do think Gallup is a Michael Thomas junior. Runs great routes. He's missed a handful of games this season and he's still going to end up with over 1,000 yards. And that is with a bunch of near misses from Dak that would have been even more big plays.

That's an insane comparison. Thomas has some of the best hands in the league. Gallup is one of the leaders in drops.
It's early for him. But I just saw yesterday that he leads the league in incompletions due to WR error (drops, routes).

then how come he has roughly 100 yards a game to this point? as the #2 receiver, no less.

Because he doesn't have roughly 100 yards per game.
Comparing him to Thomas is up there with your dumbest takes yet.

that paces out to a 1200 yard season though, which are strong numbers, and what thomas put up his first 2 seasons (this is only his 4th season)
but they play so differently. thomas is a much more physical receiver who makes his money in the middle of the field running crosses/slants where he uses his strength to shield off defenders and consistently make tight window, contested catches. thats why his yards per catch aren't that high. gallup doesnt remind me of him at all from a playing style perspective. he's not going to be a 100 catch guy

you just wonder if a guy like that would be a pro bowler without one of the 10 best QBs ever.
Gallup isn't going to be an extremely high volume catch guy like Thomas, but he will have more explosive plays, though Gallup is also the best short slant type guy on the team. He also runs comebacks and other short routes very well. The difference is the Cowboys offense likes to feature the TEs short for the most part rather than the WRs, but the Saints like to send Thomas short and run a TE up the deep seam.

I think he was laughing because Andy said that he was averaging "roughly" 100 yards per game.
But yeah...they are such different receivers, it's not a good comparison.

Possibly not. QB and situation matter a lot to WR. I'm not sure the difference between WR can be indicated by stats alone. Parker in Miami looks legit (like he was drafted to be) without Gase and with a QB that's not scared to throw him the ball.

but on the flip side you have guys who go from great QB situations and godly rookie contract stats and then they get paid top market value to go to a bad team with a bad QB and coach and they get cut halfway through their 2nd year because mgmt wonders why their performance hasn't matched what they paid for
so it evens out I guess

Nah, the last 2 are division games. The one thing about Garrett is he tends to bring his "A" game in division games.
whelp, Garrett saves his job with another winning season. 9-7 instead of 8-8, folks.
Have you seen the Eagles lately? They're not just awful, they're on a whole, different level of bad on offense... literally half their offense is out with long term injuries, including their star RT and best 3 WRs.
They're not losing to the shitty Eagles. Though I wouldn't be shocked if they rested their starters in week 17 assuming they win next week.

Guess the fuckety fucking fuck what. No they fucking won’t. They won’t turn it around. This is the The Dallas Cowboys. There is no happiness here. We will not pull it out. We will leave it in there and the next thing you know you’re 37 years old with seven kids, living in a 250-square-foot singlewide trailer in Mesquite, married to a semi-retired hooker from East Texas, getting blasted on Steel Reserve BECAUSE YOUR DAD NEVER TAUGHT YOU THE OL COITUS INTERRUPTUS.
And dont bring your “Dallas will always be a destination because America’s Team" bullshit up in here. A DESTINATION DOESN’T INCLUDE TEN SEASONS OF JASON GARRETT BECAUSE YOUR WANNABE ROCK STAR FUCKFACE OWNER IS MORE SENILE THAN A ONE HUNDRED YEAR OLD MAN. We are destined to get all these national games every year, at which we’ll get the piss knocked out of us for the entire country to see like Mussolini’s corpse getting put on display in Milan for all of Italy to come take turns beating the shit out of it.
Ya wanna know what it’s like being a Cowboys fan? It’s like getting ready to have sex with a girl and she slips your dick out of your pants, starts to blow you, then yanks the zipper up on your pants as hard as she can. And then says she's off to BANG DEZ BRYANT AT HIS MOM’S MANSION IN DESOTO TEXAS BECAUSE HE WAS FORSAKEN BY US.
IT TOOK THE SACRIFICE OF EVERY BIT OF BONE IN TONY ROMO’S BACK TO EVEN MAKE THIS TEAM COMPETITIVE.
don’t tell me it’ll get better. don’t tell me how to feel my feelings. I don’t want to hear “Dak’s in the MVP race” from Skip Bayless. And I don’t want to hear fucking a fucking thing from literally any other fanbase in the league. Fuck you. I don’t want to hear about how we don’t have a winning culture. VANILLA ICE WAS NUMBER ONE ON THE BILLBOARD THE LAST TIME WE WON A TITLE.
One day I’ll die and the misery of being a Cowboys fan will be over. I’ll be walking to take my place in heaven, I’ll walk up to the pearly gates, full of bliss and happiness with all my suffering over, there will be sweet calming music, and then all of a sudden from out of nowhere I’ll hear Terrell Owens say, “I love me some me.”. The music stops, dread fills my stomach, everything turns dark.
Just then, a bright light shows up and Tom Landry appears. I feel the warmth again, everything will be alright. He leans forward as if to tell me something wonderful and whispers almost inaudibly, “Dez Caught It” then kicks me right in the dick and shoves me off the edge to fall into a silver and blue room with my eyes taped open to watch Jason Garrett go 8-8 every season until the sun expands and engulfs the earth.

Exactly. I've been bringing up the 2010 Chargers on this board referring to this year's Cowboys for a couple months now.
And it's not just special teams, it's bad situational football, bad coaching, bad/conservative decision making.

And Norv didn't get fired after that season. Likewise, The Clapper will somehow manage to keep his job.

The Bot's contract ends next week tbh. Only way for him to keep his job is to get a new contract which would be impossibly absurd even from Jerruh
