You get surprise returns from past characters, love interests, the obligatory "hey guess what, you're related to so-and-so," and way less of the Asian chick.

JJ Abrams has always relied on mystery boxes and nostalgia in lieu of a real story, that’s why Lost’s ending is so hated and why Star Trek went downhill on his watch too. Rian Johnson tried to fix that, but clearly a faction of people hated his changes, including JJ Abrams.
