It's more likely that he shut it down to not show too much, imo. timvp said he's with that agency that tries to land players with their team of choice as opposed to as high as possible...and we all know Europeans love themselves some Spurs.

You got a point there. The good thing is his biggest weakness is that he's not giving 100% all the time, but when he does he's great. Pop would never let that slide, so it's easy to fix. I also thinks Spurs want Bogdanović to mentor him

Yeah, racist low IQ posters comparing this guy to Bertans just shows how low their IQ is. Their racism blinds them from obvious facts.....sad tbh.... :wakeup

FkLA
06-20-2019, 09:37 PM
We already have him, and we're paying him more than 8-9M/year. His name is Davis Bertans. We also already invested in developing Bertans. And his position is not nearly as important as a 3-and-D guy in Today's NBA, especially with our shit roster. Horrible pick.

I think it's lazy to compare him to Bertans just because they're both white euros. Bertans is strictly a stretch four. Samanic, to me, looks like he can be a combo forward with his ballhandling+slashing ability, imho.

Texas_Ranger

Samanic is nothing like Bertans, only similarities are their heights and that they're white guys. Samanic is way more athletic and way more fluid offensively.

Lets hope he will show some of that athleticism and be fluid offensively, cause after watching the guy play in over 30 games all he showed me is that he sucks.

Sure, I get this criticism - I was just saying don't knock the pick because of his athleticism. Personally, I think he has a higher ceiling than Bertans. His shot isn't there yet and probably won't reach Bertan's level, but he's on track to be a very capable shooter. And in my opinion he is more skilled or has the potential to be in other key facets of the game - especially taking his man off of the dribble. He's a very skilled ball handler for his size.

Hey, I wanted Little like everyone else. But I also see the upside with Samanic.

I'm not knocking really anything about him specifically, and hell maybe Spurs drafted what they thought was best available vs. by need. I'm just saying due to last year's shitshow, we know what our need is, and it's glaring.

I'll just put this right here.

Johnson works. Would have preffered roby or claxton but a good pick nonetheless

I am very leery of Coach Cal's players. Johnson looks like another guy who is undersized for his position. No matter how I try to avoid getting sucked into pre-draft expectations/excitement, I always do get excited and optimistic before the draft, and the Spurs inevitably bring me back down to earth at the actual draft. This is a particularly disappointing draft for me. I really hoped that the Spurs might figure out a way to capitalize on a super-rare draft when they had 2 picks. Maybe they will surprise me...

Depending on who comes off the board between now and then, I wouldn't mind of the Spurs surprised everyone and drafted Josh Perkins or even Cody Martin at 49. If not, they're at the top of my list for UFA' to invite to camp.

It went by quietly, but Charlotte did well taking Cody Martin. I thought he would probably get drafted, but 36 is a little higher than I expected.

Josh Perkins is still underrated and underappreciated. If Dort is off the board, I think the Spurs ought to take him. Less of a flyer than most of the players left.

Roster is going to be full, especially if Luka comes over as is expected. You’d be spending cash only to have guys not make your 15 man roster and then potentially lose their rights.

Then again, the team is willing to fork over money to trade a future HOFer to pay for his trade kicker. They get money again on July 6th, so could have dealt for a pick and completed it later technically.

They could have afforded an injury stash. I'm not sure if I've ever been so disappointed in a draft by the Spurs. Even in 2015 when I was apoplectic about Miluntinov, at least there was Cady. The players may well be decent or even good, but considering what they could have had, I just wish they had gone in different directions. Samanic might start right away, but I don't see either of the latter two picks getting significant minutes any time soon.

Saving grace is that they should be able to sign a decent forward with the MLE. But will they? Don't know.

Weatherspoon is a good kid, I just didn't think he'd get drafted. He was another one I had been planning on floating as a UFA pickup. I'm sure the Spurs spent some time with him. TIMVP mentioned a 2-way contract - that would actually be a good outcome for 49.

He's a good athlete. He doesn't have the silky stroke that Forbes has, but he can shoot.

That sounds foolish. If he's drafted, some team will be able to help with his medical costs and give him access to world-class rehab and training facilities. I don't see any reason why he should believe he would recover better on his own given his reinjury.

Looking like:

White, Mills, (Weatherspoon?)
Murray, Forbes, Walker
DeRozan Belinelli, Johnson
Samanic, Gay, Bertans, Metu
Aldridge, Poeltl (Eubanks?)

Given that Samanic and Metu can play some five, maybe the Spurs would be okay with signing Weatherspoon. Or maybe they cut Metu and sign Eubanks to better balance out the roster. I still feel like there will be an MLE player, and that would crunch the numbers way more.
