Boots is not only batshit crazy, he's also a massive snowflake, like all similar ilk.

Dude will probably die demanding "The Oligarchy Got Me" be written as his cause of death on his death certificate.

If memory serves, Buffet himself makes the claim. I don't think you have any idea just how concentrated the wealth of this country truly is.

“An operation that we did not disclose anything about after the IRGC’s missile attacks and was conducted by using special equipment we had prepared in advance was an important electronic warfare operation that started about 15 minutes after missile attack; we brought all drones flying over Ain al-Assad military base out of US troops’ control for some moments and cut their communication and image links which terrified the Americans,” General Hajizadeh said on Thursday, addressing a press conference to elaborate on IRGC missile attacks on the US military base.

not really trying to bash you, sorry of you got that impression, it is my fault for not being clearer. I mean most people in general don't have any idea just how much it really is concentrated in just a few hands.

I really do think we are moving quite clearly to an oligarchy. Buffet has said something along those lines as well.

Ok, then. Let's be a bit clear though, just to get a baseline for discussion:

How concentrated do you think the wealth in this country really is?

What percentage of the wealth (total value of all assets) does the bottom 50% of people ranked by income control?

How does that compare to the top 1%?

Israeli intelligence site, even they confirm Irans missiles were upgraded and unstoppably by US patriots.

Iran’s attack on US airbase in Iraq finds Israel vulnerable to same kind of ballistic missile strike

The breakthrough achieved by Iran in upgrading the precision of its ballistic missiles was displayed in its Jan. 8 attack on the big US Ain Al-Asad airbase in W. Iraq. US President Donald Trump laid stress on the absence of casualties and “minimal damage” caused, adding “our early warning system worked very well.” Then, on Jan. 9, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Aerospace chief Brig. Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh said: “Our goal was to destroy the central command room of the base and that is what we did.”
But meanwhile, the US commercial Planet company stepped in with revealing satellite photos of the attack and its impact, showing that at least five structures at the Ain al-Asad airbase in western Iraq – hangars and buildings – were “hit hard by a barrage of Iranian missiles.” They were precise enough to strike some individual buildings “dead center,” said one analyst.

The president was not asked about the failure of the most advanced US anti-missile systems to intercept the Iranian missiles at Ain Al-Asad. (The second US base targeted by Iran at Irbil in Kurdistan was evacuated some days earlier.) This could be down to three alternative breakdowns: either the early warning systems did not detect the missiles’ launch from Iran; or the interceptors did not react when the missiles exploded inside the base; or both.
Clearly, in the five months since its missile/drone attack on Saudi oil facilities on Sept. 14, Iran has made further strides in developing the precision of its missiles, whereas the US early warning systems were not correspondingly upgraded.
Iran therefore brought off the first missile attack on US military targets since the Korean War.

The implications for America’s military deterrence are plain, but no less grave are the implications for Israel. The Iranian general stressed that the missile attack on American bases in neighboring Iraq was “only the start of a series of attacks that will take place across the entire region.”
Israel has no illusions about its standing with America on the front line against Iran. And if the US military is short of answers for defense against Iran’s ballistic missiles, Israel whose early warning and anti-missile systems are based on American models is in the same boat.
The Iranian strike on US bases in Iraq on Jan. 8 must serve as an immediate red alert for Israel on what to expect. Instead of telling the Israeli public fairy stories about their country’s non-involvement in the spiraling armed contest between the US and Iran, it would be better for the government to tell the people frankly that Israel is more exposed than ever to Iranian missile aggression.

I agree, and understand, fully, the reality of the Top 1%. I'm not arguing that.

Making fun of Boutons, and people of the ilk, and why I do, is how they approach it. That's a different discussion. Suffice it to say, screaming til your blue in the face about wealth inequality does absolutely nothing.

And I know I'll be one of the few that have this sentiment, but since most people have some kind of understanding on wealth inequity, we still need to be mindful that most of us are consumersauruses and, while we bitch and moan about it, we still have no problem giving the 1% even more of our monies. It's not victim shaming, Americans are spend junkies and most aren't fiscally responsible.

You have to start with the things we can fix. It's insane to me to think we can fix the income inequality before we can indict ourselves as a society and admit we collectively are financially irresponsible. Once we can figure that, only then, at least to me, do I feel we're ready to have a legitimate conversation about how to tackle the larger picture.

Ok, but for discussion, we really need to try to put some hard figures on how concentrated it really is.

That will help us understand the parameters of the problem. You can't know what we can or can't do, really, until you know what the reality on the ground is. Not trying to argue anything here, and even if we agree, there is a great value, IMO, from starting with an understood set of facts.

'Completely Lawless President': Trump Reportedly Tried to Kill Another Top Iranian Commander on Same Day as Soleimani

"Multiple strikes on top IRGC officials is starting a war. These were decapitation strikes."

The Trump administration reportedly tried and failed to assassinate a senior Iranian military official in Yemen on the same day it killed Gen. Qasem Soleimani with a drone strike in Baghdad last week, nearly sparking (https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/01/07/nightmare-iran-launches-rocket-attack-us-airbase-iraq) a full-blown regional war.

The Washington Post reported (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/on-the-day-us-forces-killed-soleimani-they-launched-another-secret-operation-targeting-a-senior-iranian-official-in-yemen/2020/01/10/60f86dbc-3245-11ea-898f-eb846b7e9feb_story.html) Friday that

U.S. forces carried out a "top secret mission" targeting Abdul Reza Shahlai, a high-level commander of Iran's Quds Force.

According to the Post, the U.S. launched a strike against Shahlai in Yemen but it was unsuccessful for unknown reasons.

According to the Post:

The Trump administration views Shahlai as a particularly potent adversary.

The State Department offered a $15 million reward last month for information leading to Shahlai and the disruption of [the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps'] financial mechanisms.

The announcement said that Shahlai is based in Yemen and has a "long history of involvement in attacks targeting the U.S. and our allies, including in the 2011 plot against the Saudi ambassador" at an Italian restaurant in Washington.

the Post reporting undermines the Trump administration's claim that it assassinated Soleimani due to an "imminent threat" to American interests—and

indicates the general's killing was part of what was meant to be a far more sweeping effort to damage the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Chris Hayes Calls Out Reports That Trump Linked Soleimani Airstrike to Shoring Up GOP Support Against Impeachment Trial

two recent news stories, one in the New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/07/us/politics/trump-campaign-suleimani.html) and one in the Wall Street Journal (https://www.wsj.com/articles/trumps-new-national-security-team-made-fast-work-of-iran-strike-11578619195), that reported

Trump himself has privately admitted that

the idea of preventing Senate GOP defections colored his decision to attack and kill Soleimani.
he almost started a war with Iran to shore up Republican votes in the Senate for his impeachment trial.

What a damning admission by the man himself.”

two main possibilities,” Hayes concluded.

“One is this. This was a good faith action taken by the president with the national interest in mind.

The other is that

this was done for the president’s political survival.

And you get to decide which one it is.”

Iran just spent the past few days denying it was even possible for them to have shot down the passenger jet until it became impossible to continue denying it.

So you really believe Iran on that claim about the drone? US was looking to prevent commercial ships from being attacked by Iran and those ships sail in international water; seems logical to me that the drone would have been in international waters to monitor those ships.

U.S. STRIKE ON IRANIAN COMMANDER IN YEMEN THE NIGHT OF SULEIMANI’S ASSASSINATION

KILLED THE WRONG MAN

ON THE NIGHT the U.S. assassinated Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani by drone strike,

the U.S. launched a similar operation to kill a top Iranian commander in Yemen, a U.S. official told The Intercept.

The operation was aimed at killing Abdul Reza Shahlai, the commander of the Yemen division of Iran’s elite Quds Force, near the Yemeni capital Sana’a.

Shahlai survived,

but a lower-level Quds Force operative was killed, and Shahlai went into hiding, the official said.

Shortly thereafter, Iranian state TV reportedly announced the death of a Quds Force operative named Mohammad Mirza in “one of the fields of Resistance Front.”

The Wall Street Journal accidentally reveals the unbearable truth about Soleimani’s assassination

It would be unbearable

to think the president ordered a man dead in order to give Republican Senators a means of defending him against an indictment for abuse of power and obstruction.

It would be unthinkable

for him to bring America to the brink of war in order to create an image of a “war president” too indispensable to remove.

. Nearly 30 paragraphs into a 2,200-word story (http://email.mg1.substack.com/c/eJwlUNuKwyAQ_Zr6ZlCbavLgQ2HZ3wgTnbRujQadEPL3a1sYmC tzLg4IH7mclrAS2yuWKXjLvBVGOTOzUKelIK4QomXbPsfggEJO 7ysplGZPe1vmfvQatJlHGKT2cvC9uPbKa92PINmWK02w-4DJoc0pntMGwbNon0RbvVzvF_Xb4jiO7qh_nctr66BQcBFrK6n s61Z5woOnDzpEXtHtJdDJCWHlK3jkC1TiRy4vnhceCiReqYQXc ilvZtBylOONBauEEkJKIY0c1NDJzohemPGq72IwP_1wv_Rifci u7nMlcK83H1bsX36mBpDxWdrB4-3IZ9NMmVpe99TYTJhgjuhto4yMvq5-9NO5oW0KakQiLN9hM1EpoY1gDczn9jPZL8Q_nt2K3g), they said:

Mr. Trump, after the strike, told associates

he was under pressure

to deal with :lol

Gen. Soleimani from GOP senators

he views as important supporters in his coming impeachment trial in the Senate,

associates said (my italics).

Now, these are unnamed sources. They were speaking on background. In isolation, I wouldn’t make much of this.

But in context, it matters—so much so, it warrants its own reporting, which we have not yet seen.

That context would be the absence of legitimate non-political reasons for ordering Soleimani’s death.

Donald Trump Murdered Qassim Suleimani

DONALD TRUMP HAS DRAGGED America into a moral abyss.

And yet Congress, the press, and the public are unwilling to admit that we are now standing in blood.

The nation is enabling a murderous demagogue, and we are all complicit.

The president of the United States has murdered a high-ranking official of a foreign government.

The assassination last week of Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani was a state-sponsored murder.

But no one in the Washington establishment seems prepared to come out and say the hard truth:

Donald Trump is a murderer.

This criminal moment has been a long time coming.

(https://theintercept.com/2020/01/03/qassim-suleimani-assassination-trump-administration-war/)The United States has an assassination ban. :lol

The ban was put in place following disclosures by the Church Committee in the 1970s,

which revealed that the CIA had secretly attempted to kill a series of foreign leaders, most notably Cuba’s Fidel Castro.

For the last two decades, both Republican and Democratic presidents have worked quietly to skirt the assassination ban

in order to take advantage of new aviation, missile guidance, and surveillance technologies to find and kill individuals all over the world.

To launch targeted killings without violating the assassination ban,

presidents have counted on compliant government lawyers to issue secret legal opinions that rubber-stamped their actions.

10 Ways Trump's Actions Against Iran Hurt the US, the Region, and the World

1. The first result of Trump’s blunders may be an increase in U.S. war deaths across the greater Middle East.

2. U.S. acts of war in Iraq have injected even more volatility and instability into an already war-torn and explosive region.

3. Trump’s attacks on Iran may actually embolden (https://www.businessinsider.com/fighting-between-iran-us-may-help-isis-revival-in-iraq-2020-1) a common enemy, the Islamic State, which can take advantage of the chaos created in Iraq.

4. Iran has announced it is withdrawing from all the restrictions on enriching uranium that were part of the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement.

5. Trump’s blunders have destroyed what little influence the U.S. had with the Iraqi government.

6. Another inevitable consequence of Trump’s failed Iran policy is that it strengthens conservative, hard-line factions in Iran.

7. Trump’s blunders may be the last straw for U.S. friends and allies who have stuck with the U.S. through 20 years of inflammatory and destructive U.S. foreign policy.

8. U.S. actions in Iraq violate international, domestic and Iraqi law, setting the stage for a world of ever greater lawlessness.

9. Trump’s aggressive moves strengthen the weapons makers.

10. Any further escalation between the U.S. and Iran could be catastrophic for the world economy

Donald Trump's assassination of Iran's equivalent of a U.S. vice president, General Qassim Soleimani, accomplished several things:

1. It significantly helped the criminal and mass murderer Benjamin Netanyahu's chances of winning re-election and staying out of prison.

2. It almost guarantees that the CIA/Mossad terrorist organization ISIS will be reborn, as it gives a new generation of Arabs a reason to hate the United States.

3. It destroys whatever peace plan Iran and Saudi Arabia were negotiating and keeps the Middle East in turmoil, which facilitates the expansionist plans of Zionist Israel.

4. It rekindles the instability and unrest in Iraq, makes the U.S. presence there a violation of International Law and War Crime and helps to keep the fires of the "war on terror" burning.

5. It makes it much easier for Republican senators to vote against Trump's impeachment conviction, as it gives the rabid right wing meat-eaters (aka warmongers) the blood of the number two ranking Iranian official to feast on.

6. It puts giant question marks in the minds of state officials worldwide as to Trump's willingness to murder foreign leaders with impunity, which adds more fuel to the East/West divide and keeps the CFR globalists VERY HAPPY.

7. It almost totally distracts attention away from the biggest tyrannical assault against the liberties of the American people here at home since King George sent British troops to seize the firearms of the people in Lexington and Concord that is taking place RIGHT NOW in Virginia.

Does no one notice that this so-called pro-Second Amendment president, Donald Trump, has said absolutely NOTHING about the attempts of the Virginia State government to ban and confiscate the semi-automatic rifles AND pistols from the people of Virginia?

Instead of conducting a rally in Ohio and everywhere else, why doesn't Trump go to Virginia and rally the people against the draconian, tyrannical gun control laws that are being enacted? It's because Trump is a total PHONY and has no intention of standing in the way of gun confiscation laws in the U.S.

In fact, Trump is the loudest voice in the country IN SUPPORT of "red flag" gun confiscation laws. And Trump supporters know it; and they DON'T CARE.

Make no mistake: Virginia is a TEST. If tyranny (statewide gun registration, confiscation, ban on private sales, etc.) prevails in the land of Lee and Jackson, it will begin sweeping across the entire country. Lawmakers and governors in SEVERAL states are just waiting for it to succeed in Virginia, so they can propose it in their states.

Yep! The assassination of General Soleimani accomplished a LOT. Don't you feel safer???

I don't give 2 shits about your silly ad homs.

If you had evidence I was only stung by 2 bees but I insisted it was 4, you'd want to see the evidence. The problem is you don't have any evidence to counter, you just didn't see evidence to support a claim. That doesn't equate to "liar". Not by your own definition.

Words matter in discussions like these. The word "believe" is being used both as a the 1st and 2nd definitions of the word.

verb
verb: believe; 3rd person present: believes; past tense: believed; past participle: believed; gerund or present participle: believing
1.
accept (something) as true; feel sure of the truth of. (this implies "convinced" which implies "based on evidence")
"the superintendent believed Lancaster's story"
Similar:
be convinced by
trust

accept the statement of (someone) as true.
"he didn't believe her or didn't want to know"
have faith, especially religious faith.
"there are those on the fringes of the Church who do not really believe"
feel sure that (someone) is capable of a particular action.
"I wouldn't have believed it of Lois—what an extraordinary woman!"
2.
hold (something) as an opinion; think or suppose. (this is what you seem think Esper is implying)
"I believe we've already met"

In order to change your view and accept the 1st definition, you want to be looped into the inner circle of trust, so you can double check to make sure there was justifiable cause to kill a known terrorist. You won't be given that access, so you'll just continue accusing the administration of lying.

Oddly, Trump cannot make a phone call to another country without someone in the room ratting him out, but you think the entire group of Joint Chiefs, JSOC and SOCOM would all fall in line with a wag the dog move. Apparently you have the ability to believe improbable things without evidence, but need evidence to believe probable things - depending on who said it.

Because then you might have to name embassies. That would lead to more questions that involve the state dept and the dreaded DEEP STATE that has not been willing to lie along with you on everything.

Just say, if we gave you the names of the four embassies it could compromise intelligence entities. Then watch the backlash. Or actually probably get out of it. But Trump, as we know, is a blurter with his minions having to do an incredibly bad jobs of explaining (Just like you are trying to do)

‘Mark Esperanto is not a serious person’:

Defense secretary pounded for ‘astoundingly embarrassing’ Sunday show interviews

https://www.rawstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/esper_cbs_screenshot.jpg

Esper insisted Trump “never said there was specific intelligence to four different embassies.”

“What the president said was he believed it probably could have been,” Espert told Tapper.

“He didn’t cite intelligence.”

Esper admitted he “didn’t see” evidence showing a plan to attack 4 U.S. embassies.

The whiplash wasn’t lost on viewers, who took to Twitter to express disbelief over Esper’s performance — and

questioned why anyone would believe the defense secretary in light of the Trump administration’s shifting cover for the attack.

Donald Trump’s Iran Problem

The killing of General Qassem Suleimani has undermined the Trump Administration’s top goals in the Islamic Republic.

the Reagan Administration ordered Marine peacekeepers in Beirut to open fire on Muslim militias in the mountains overlooking the city.

U.S. ships fired more than three hundred rounds of seventy-pound shells. Geraghty later wrote, “As the sun set at the end of a tumultuous day, I remarked to members of my staff that my gut instinct tells me the Corps is going to pay in blood for this decision.”

On October 23rd, a suicide bomber drove a truck loaded with twelve thousand pounds of explosives into the peacekeepers’ barracks.

Two hundred and forty-one Americans died.

The largest loss for the corps in a single incident since Iwo Jima was

carried out by a Lebanese group that became Hezbollah—

but it was orchestrated by Iran.

“The Iranians’ goal was to remove the marines and Western influence,” Geraghty recalled last week. “And they did.”

The United States proved in 1983 that it had a tactical advantage,

but Iran proved that it had a more wide-ranging strategy—as it has demonstrated repeatedly through the years.

The next four U.S. Presidents avoided a military showdown with the Islamic Republic,

even as its strategic advance across the region deepened.

The risks and the potential complications were deemed too great.

Trump’s decision has already had sweeping consequences—for the regional military balance, the campaign against isis and Al Qaeda, Iran’s nuclear program, and the unnerving political dysfunction in the Middle East.

The U.S.-led campaign against isis—which still has fourteen thousand fighters in Iraq and Syria—was suspended.

The Trump Administration’s top two goals in Iran have also been undermined.

For decades, successive Presidents have sought to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.

two days after the killing of Suleimani, Iran said that it would no longer limit the number of centrifuges for enriching uranium.

For two years, the Trump Administration has also exerted “maximum pressure,” through sanctions and isolation, to force new concessions from Tehran.

the assassination of Suleimani reignited nationalism in Iran;

The United States has figured out how to react to a militia or to kill a commander, but it still hasn’t figured out how, creatively or proactively, to deal with the nation of Iran.

American Impotence:

Trump's Assassination of Soleimani Masks Broad Retreat

No amount of propaganda can paint the assassination of Soleimani as more beneficial than damaging to American interests.

The assassination of Soleimani was itself a symptom of how limited American power has become in the Middle East.

When you have to resort to missiles fired from an MQ-9 Reaper to kill a state leader, you're signaling raw power,

but you're also signaling your bankrupt diplomacy. It shows.

The assassination will cost Iran tactically, but anyone is replaceable.

Soleimani's loss was, if anything, to Iran's strategic advantage,

a confirmation of its status as the power to be reckoned with in the Middle East

rather than as a nation anywhere near its heels.

WATCH: CNN Plays Recording of Trump Telling Donors

He Killed Soleimani Because He ‘Said Bad Things’

CNN has released audio of a private fundraiser during which President Donald Trump said

he ordered the killing of Iranian Quds Force leader Qasem Soleimani because “he said bad things” about the United States, and

went on to provide a detailed account of the strike that included descriptions of military capabilities.

The network obtained audio of a Friday night fundraiser at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, during which he told the high-dollar donors that

he ordered the strike because of Soleimani’s threatening rhetoric and, according to CNN, did not describe any “imminent threat.”

“He said bad things about our country.

he was saying things like ‘We’re going to attack your country. We’re going to kill your people.'”

Trump says on the recording.

“I said, look, how much of this shit do we have to listen to?

How much are we going to listen to?”

Trump also gave a very detailed account of the raid that included information on U.S. military capabilities:

He went on to recount listening to military officials as they watched the strike from “cameras that are miles in the sky.”

“They’re together sir,” Trump recalled the military officials saying.

“Sir, they have two minutes and 11 seconds.

No emotion.

‘2 minutes and 11 seconds to live, sir.

They’re in the car, they’re in an armored vehicle.

Sir, they have approximately one minute to live, sir. 30 seconds. 10, 9, 8 …’ ”

“Then all of a sudden, boom,” he went on. “‘They’re gone, sir. Cutting off.’ ”

“I said, where is this guy?” Trump continued.

“That was the last I heard from him.”

several of his senior officials have said they did not see any intelligence to substantiate that claim.

War is above all a business

And the war on terror was all about grabbing Iraqi oil and enriching the military industrial complex and its investors

Mission Accomplished

India and China are by far the biggest importers of Iraqi oil.
These two countries exports went down with the war in Ukraine.
But they are still the largest exporters.

This is mission accomplished? These plans can go completely sideways and they often do.

It all really began when Saddam invaded Kuwait and was ready to move into Saudi Arabia. This would have destabiilized world old prices. We were not the only ones that wanted Saddam out of Kuwait. Then came the punishment involving wiping out the Iraqi army who Saddam basically sacrificed like the Russians do with their people. We made sure they did not have an army that could do this again. This was really the start. Islamic terrorists actually caused Saddam problems.

And this was well before the twin towers fell. Leaving out this background is disingenuous imo when looking at the history of the conflict. Now that we know there were no weapons of mass destruction that the second Bush used as an excuse clearly must take into account the things that happened before. Especially in this case. The first Bush made sure not to destabilize Iraq completely. He knew the vacuum that would be left by Saddam would be a problem the US wanted nothing to do with.

but we also are at least HALF guilty…it takes two to go to war

I fully realize our foreign affair adventures have been not all been squeaky clean.
I also fully realize that we will do what it takes to keep markets and trade open.
We are regularly running our Navy through the South China Sea to let the Chinese know these are international waters and we will send our commercial shipping through these areas. We will keep the Straits of Hormuz open. We will keep the Suez Canal open, we will keep the Panama Canal open. We dont own these places but they are extremely important for trade and our economy as well as many of our allies.

Bottom line: we will make economics a big part of our foreign policy thus our projection of power is involved. But we also run into adventures we dont need to get into. And we also do some incredibly good humanitarian acts that just cost us money but lead to more trust. And sometimes it gets very complicated deciding when we need to keep our nose out of situations. Looking back on situations that have already occurred is easy to define us a good and bad. Looking forward when situations are changing is difficult. Remember there are Republicans and a group of Democrats that think we should have zero involvement in Ukraine. Depending on how it ends up people will then start to see good moves and bad moves we have made.

You have to be explained how assassinations have been strategically implemented and shown dramatic success in both locations? Okay. I will spell it out clearly.

Taking out the leader of an institution can have humongous strategic impact in general; it's Ukraine and they are at war. Putin strategically assassinates all opposition and has seen it keep him in power. This is par the course for many autocratic regimes.

It depends on the results. US troops are still being attacked by Iranian proxies in Iraq and Syria, so the strategic result of killing Sulaiman would appear to be nil.

Paradoxically, the US is supporting Iran's proxies in Iraq and has no clear military or political mission in Iraq or Syria, except perhaps to dangle US troops as bait for attack..
