Bernie Sanders and the Revenge of the Superdelegates
Unless Bernie Sanders wins enough delegates to capture the Democratic Party nomination on the first ballot,
he is not going to be the nominee.
The reason will be that the superdelegates–those same people who were his wrath in 2016–
will come back to deny him the nomination.
In 2020 there will be 3,979 delegates to the Democratic National Convention who will be selected as a result of primaries and caucuses.
To win the nomination one needs 1,991 delegates.
If Bernie Sanders does not get to this number by the first round,
the 771 Superdelegates will get to vote, and he will need 2,376 votes to win.
Fat chance!
https://www.counterpunch.org/2020/02/19/bernie-sanders-and-the-revenge-of-the-superdelegates/ (https://www.counterpunch.org/2020/02/19/bernie-sanders-and-the-revenge-of-the-superdelegates/)
Superdelegates are stupid and anti-constitutional. That's why you should join the Republican party, none of that "because I said so" bullcrap there.
To call yourselves the "Democratic party" and have an un-democratic primary election process is hypocrisy of epic proportions.

To play devil's advocate, I kind of like that one news cycle can't make or break a campaign like if the primaries were all done in the same day nationwide.

Maybe the states should all draw cards and, by random chance order have 5 states each week for 10 consecutive weeks from Feb-April to decide the primaries.
Have the drawings done the summer before (the summer of the odd numbered year before election year) so the candidates can plan their campaigns accordingly.
Make sense??

Before the state’s Democratic primary, on February 29th, some conservatives are trying to settle on the least electable candidate.

Age bracket is going to be what drives it. If Sanders gets the nod... it will be interesting to see how the turn out unfolds.
In my neck of the woods, with Texas State University, I am guessing we will see some record turn-out. Given the number of large college towns in Texas, and youngish population, that may skew Texas very very close to purple this time around.

That’s right now Reck. I worry that Bernie supporters will may come out and vote for anyone except Bernie especially if they think he got screwed over. And what I mean by those numbers now is Hillary held similar leads to Trump prior to Election Day too and wound up losing. Listen I don’t really have a dog in this race, I just look at his rallies and social media support and they are a lot similar to where Trump is. That might sound dumb, but that worried me about Hillary in 2016 and then the nightmare scenario happened. Sanders just looks to have a more grassroots following than the other candidates imo.

I get you. But voting for Bernie or supporting him out of fear that his supporters might vote for someone else is no better than voting for Trump.
Like for example, if Bloomberg is the nominee I would rather lose and go down in flames then give my vote to him. Paying attention to twitter and facebook is why most people are full on retarded these days.

I think some people (the average joe blow voter who does zero research) just will vote for whom ever comes
out of the dem party no matter if it does happen to be that scum Bloomberg just so Trump and his supporters are raving mad on Election Day. I like Bernie fine. I just thinks he has a little more of a campaign message than Biden does. Trump had it with his wall nonsense, and Bernie’s is free everything. Like Trump’s stupid wall we all know most of
Bernie’s free everything will not come to fruition. Maybe sometime down the line, but not here and now. But it’s a talking point that gets people riled up and gets them to come out to vote. The other candidates just seem stale and I don’t think they would be able to garner the enthusiasm that Sanders can. And we need someone like this to go up against Trump because you know his followers will be out in droves again. That’s the reason I continually really push Bernie on people. For instance here in MD right now Biden is leading. Hopefully that will change come Super Tuesday the more Bernie rambles on about giving everyone stuff for free and simply making that bad billionaires pay for it.

:lol I like how Republicans think the Dems should nominate another Republican because they’re projecting their warped views onto the rest of the country
That is the insidious part.
They have gotten so used to setting the narrative, and the right wing media has pushed that even into what is normally considered "mainstream", that they have assumed that they can pick or should pick the nominee for the other party.
Republicans will not vote for a Democrat, no matter what. Why give a flying shit what they think about who the nominee should be?

universal childcare paid by taxpayers to already-super-expensive for-profit childcare centers is stupid, if that's what is proposed.
non-profit, govt-operated childcare, pre-K is the solution, but America can't do solutions For The People anymore

the approaches are generating new turnout vs flipping votes. of course the ideal answer is "both" but i dont know that pete/amy/biden/bloomberg are going to do the former, or that sanders/warren would do the latter.
and if you had to lean one way, its an open question. i would argue that in a country with poor turnout figures, there is enough of an untapped base that focusing on turnout/excitement/mobilization is the more viable approach. and the largest pool of untapped votes, by age, is the younger vote

Just say we condemn the authoritarian regime with the dig about Trump and Kim Kong and leave it at that. In the eyes of Cuban voters he needs everything about Castro was bad and he’s not going to change their minds.
This, but probably has to go a step further and say specifically what his policy towards Cuba is going to be, assuming it's going to be different from Trump's

bernie answers are pretty complete- he denounced authoritarianism but the media cut off that part of his answer-
and basically highlighted the part where bernie credited castro for something positive that castro enacted
so if the goal is just to set up bernie and/or attack him-
I just dont think bernie should play along in his own demise especially after 2016.
So yes - trump figured out a way to trump the system (pun intended) and bernie can also use it - since the media has proven to not actually be able to handle that tactic.

universal childcare paid by taxpayers to already-super-expensive for-profit childcare centers is stupid, if that's what is proposed.
non-profit, govt-operated childcare, pre-K is the solution, but America can't do solutions For The People anymore
parents are getting fleeced by for-profit child care, sometimes costing more than, eg, a parent nets.
Why do you think govt-operated ANYTHING is good - look at our public schools. Look at Miami-Dade's half penny tax for a Metrorail that goes nowhere. Look at these 2 express lanes on the Palmetto that causes accidents and creates more traffic than when it was free flowing. Does government do anything well? And you want MORE of government controlling our lives?
he didnt make those comments unprompted. they specifically asked him about his comments from the 80's, and his response was, yeah, we condemn the autoritarian regime, but lets not act like things like improved literacy were also bad things. also fyi we condemn the authoritarian regime and im not going to cozy up to murdering dictators like trump has done with kim
The thing is Bernie can’t denounce the Castro regime and then finishes it out by saying oh and btw, it’s unfair to say everything was bad about Castro, he had an excellent literacy program that worked. Denounce and praise at the same time doesn’t work.
Guess what the media, his rivals are going to nitpick from that.
"To many people in Miami, that's like saying, 'Not everything Hitler did was bad, he also created the Autobahn,' " said Herrero. "It’s hard to see a scenario where he wins Florida if he keeps talking this way."
During interviews over the years, Sanders has said Castro, though not perfect, educated his people and implemented a health care system that benefited all Cubans.

trump : “why did you defend castro?”

Also, the whole anti-Castro crowd in Cuba is already relatively solid Republican (you can thank Reagan for that, and it's actually pretty hilarious to hear Republican bitching about immigration these days), but the 2nd-3rd generation and the rest of the latinos don't really give much of a shit.

Polls in Texas show him within 3%...
California+New York+Texas = 41% of the electoral college votes needed to be president. Steady drip drip drip of young hispanic voters becoming eligible every day, and old white voters dying off.
Dems have written off Texas forever, but since Trump got elected, we have been hyper-energized, and that has been led in no small part by Latinas. I have seen this first hand.
