View Full Version : playoff scenarios as of Tuesday morning 8/4, Spurs control their destiny

I think technically the Spurs are alive even if POR/MEM/PHO all win today, but getting to the play-in would require POR and PHO each losing their final game. The Spurs have to beat the Jazz either way.
Yes you are right technicaly and mathmaticaly spurs will still have a chance.
However i personaly feel it must start happening today or it wont happen
portland toughest challange is dellas.
Memphis must lose 2.
Counting on them on losing

Spurs win% right now if they would have beat the 76ers = 0.471 and the 8th seed.

Sucks that we won’t get to play as many games as the other teams. Very likely that we end the season with less losses and don’t get a chance to match their wins.

man these 4 teams are neck and neck. crazy.
the NBA should make a last minute adjustment with this playoff scenario thing. this whole restart thing is wack to begin with so making "in season adjustments" shouldn't be out of the question.
if the Grizzles, Blazers, Spurs and Suns end up within a game of each other to end the season, they should change the 8/9 "play in" to the 8,9,10,11 "play in". 8 vs 11 and 9 vs 10. One and done. Winners move on and winner of the 2nd game becomes the 8th seed. i don't think doing this would change much because the 8/9 seed were going to play against each other anyway so its not like they were a lock to make the playoff. i think the only team that wouldn't like this idea would be the team that ended up as 8 seed since now they would need to win 2 games vs just winning 1.
the eastern conference wont be having a play in so the extra game being played shouldn't be that big a deal scheduling wise. and this should be done as well since the separation between these teams seem to be based on uneven # of games played which makes it a bit unfair to lose out because you played less games.
i know it won't happen because they already made their rules but i don't think it would be an outrageous thing to do considering how close these teams are to each other record wise.
Suns will end up blowing out 76ers.

I agree. There should be a mini tournament for the 8 seed. The race for 8 has been the most interesting part of the restart

2 teams go to the play in
Spurs need to win thier last game and 2 of the 3 to happen

Yup. If I did the math right, Dallas would finish with a 0.600 win% if they beat both Portland and Phoenix, while Utah would finish with a 0.597 win% if they lose to the Spurs.

If Portland wins, the Spurs need two of Portland/Phoenix/Memphis to lose their last game, along with beating the Jazz.
If Portland loses, the Spurs just need one of Phoenix and Memphis to lose.

Memphis is loosing tonight but Spurs fate is in Mavs’ hands. If Dalla loses tonight Portland has it as they won’t lose vs Brooklyn’s bench in the last game. Implications go further as a Mavs L tonight means their last game vs Phoenix is irrelevant for them.
So if Mavs lose tonight, then Spurs are virtually out.

I think if the Spurs win their last game and 2 out of 3 of Memphis, Portland, or Phoenix lose, the Spurs get in.
If Spurs win, they finish 33-38, .464
If Suns lose, they finish 33-40, .452
If Memphis loses, they finish 33-40, .452
If Portland loses, they finish 34-40, .459
If all three lose, the Spurs are actually the 8 seed.
If any of those three win, they're ahead of the Spurs on winning percentage.

For Spurs to get in:
A Spurs win AND 2 of POR, MEM, PHX need to lose Thursday.
For Spurs to get 8th:
A Spurs win AND all 3 of PHX, POR, MEM lose on Thursday.

Said it in the game thread, but still a really good bubble showing for the Spurs regardless of what happens on Thursday.
Got a good look at some young guys (some showed out, some should probably be shown the door)...and they'll end up getting the 11th pick when it's all said and done. Not too bad considering how horrible the rest of the season was prior to this.

We will get to play knowing how 2 of the other 3 teams did. That could be a good thing.

Yeah, Brett Brown really fucked us. No more career well wishes from me for that guy, that's unless we get a great pick, lol.

If the Suns lose and two of the remaining three win, the Suns miss the playoffs despite going 7-1 in the restart.

Who is the 2nd best player on the Blazers? Nurkic? Trent Jr? Surely it can't be McCollum, who is basically a high usage Brynn Forbes.
What Lillard is doing -- by himself -- is incredible. Also have enjoyed watching the Spurs and your young players recently. That would be a fun playin game.
Nurk for sure

Blazers deserve the 8 seed, honestly. Popovich fucked the team over with his Forbes obsession. Oh well

Not even being better in percentage points can help us now. (Right?)
highest %age is the winner, spurs simply can't win because schedule gave 1 game less than others.

Maybe a wink wink deal with the commissioner to give us a top 4 pick in exchange?

Actually..
Games played for each team fighting for 8/9 at end of restart...
Spurs 32-38 = 70+1 = 71
Grizz 33+39 = 72 + 1 = 73
Suns 33+39 = 72 + 1 = 73
Blazers 34-39 = 73 +1 = 74
**+1 represents 1 game left to play.

Bret brown didn’t fuck us, Dejounte did with that dribble into traffic and get stonewalled wasted possession late. The game was in our hands.

I think if the Spurs win their last game and 2 out of 3 of Memphis, Portland, or Phoenix lose, the Spurs get in.
If Spurs win, they finish 33-38, .464
If Suns lose, they finish 33-40, .452
If Memphis loses, they finish 33-40, .452
If Portland loses, they finish 34-40, .459
If all three lose, the Spurs are actually the 8 seed.
If any of those three win, they're ahead of the Spurs on winning percentage.
