Yeah it only lasted another week or so after that. But he's emotionally not good. He is very insecure and cries at the front window the entire time we are gone from the house .. be it 15 minutes or 15 hours. He has major abandonment issues.

Set up a playlist of your WOAI videos (or something of that nature) before you leave so he hears your voice in the house. And don't play with him as soon as you're leaving.

Pet him, then do something else away from the dog and let him get preoccupied, and then leave.

Deuce has issues when it rains or when he hears water running too. I guess that's what happens when get a dog that was rescued from Hurricane Katrina. Hopefully it starts to get better for him soon.

Good suggestions, but he would never get preoccupied. He starts to panic as soon as he sees me putting on makeup and getting dressed to go out. By the time I go downstairs, he's running around me and then by the door like a maniac. Even if I give him a brand new bone or anything to distract him before I get ready to leave. And then while we are gone he stands on his hind legs in the window the entire time.

It's a good thing we both work from home or he'd go nuts.

Zak - for somebody as 'philosophical' as you, and for someone who has 'seen the light' - you sure say some stupid stuff in regards to your relationship. I'm a very devout Christian - and I'd be a wreck without my girlfriend. My parents are both very Christian, and they need each other, a lot.

Having Jesus in your life is great - but don't act like relationships of the flesh (not sexual) aren't important. They're even in the Bible.

You guys should probably look into some counseling.

My dog had the same problem. I don't recommend this but I used one of those "shock" collars (I did it on myself to make sure it wasn't too harsh :spin ). I recorded the first day I used it. He cried/howled once, got shocked and then waited a few minutes. Tested it by growling/howling louder, louder, louder until he set it off again. He yelped and never cried/howled again when I would leave!

What I would recommend is the Dog Whisperers technique. I don't remember exactly what it is though. I'm sure you can find it on the net. It worked for Oprah's pooch. Much more humane!

Try putting him in your kennel when you leave. Dogs are den animals and that might make him feel secure. My dog doesn't need her kennel anymore, but she still will go in it and sleep. He may whine at first, but he should get used to it and start feeling more secure.

I know you think you do.

But you really need to think a lot more before you speak, especially to your wife. And spend some time with a clergyman of your choice. You'll realize that you aren't going about some things in the right way.
