Curry was blessed with a superior team that still got beat in finals 2x and has proved he cannot lead without Thompson and Durant. Not once was he MVP of a finals as he consistently deferred to Durant to take the key shots. All Curry is a great shooter. Young may get some players around him and get a chip or two but is a lot more fun to watch already than the soft Curry. Yes Curry right now still accomplished but time will tell.

He is just one of many shooters. Great player but soft when it counts and can’t lead. Game changed before him he just benefited soft new rules and having great teams including Thompson- who may be an even better pure shooter. But it has been definitely proven cannot carry a team.

Dumbass, he's the one who showed you can win titles with the three ball. You just hate Curry for talking shit about Trump and you'll be talking shit about Young in two years if he makes efforts to get black people in GA registered for the midterms just like how butthurt you have been at LeBron for his efforts in the 2020 election instead of shutting up and dribbling.

Sure, it's not life and death, but this player is a great America tragedy. 3-14, 2-8, on and on and on. They keep him and let Rondo, Howard, et al walk away. Maddening.

We're just gd lucky we rang last season.

The only player that even compares to him in the fear induced when they have the ball in their hands is Lillard, and unlike Lillard that's true for the entire game. Not to mention the rest of his offensive game.

The Clippers are only down three points despite shooting 37% from the field, and 20% from three. They have one quarter to hope the law of averages kicks in. They need a fourth quarter explosion from Paul George and the team

Dude c'mon man, this round ain't even over and next round will probably be tougher, as flawed as the Bucks are. Still, I'm rooting for you guys and think you have the most fun team to watch in the playoffs (not of the remaining 4, but of the entire group of 20). And the best team in the league. If you can get Finals tickets, there's nothing like the experience for a fanbase that's hungry after being a joke to the rest of the league for years (eg like the 99 Finals was for Spurs fans after years of the the team being called soft).

you said he is just "one of many shooters" as in he's a dime a dozen. I always like to think that I evaluate posts unbiasedly.....as in I (and pretty much everyone on the forum) knows that you're a grade A dimwit, but I will still take your posts seriously. That being said the guy literally changed the way the NBA was played.....i.e. extended the defense to where you now have to guard 25+ feet out because any good shooter nowadays can pull up quickly from that range and make it at a decent clip. and guess who started that trend? any other era if you try to pull something like that and miss, you'll find yourself on the bench the rest of the game

now I do think you can make an argument that Curry may be lacking as a leader because cases can be made each time they won the championship that someone else was the alpha and/or pileup of injuries by his opposition. However, you are the one that said 'he is just another shooter'...your words not mine. as the late great pussyface would say 'that is worthy of some serious ridicule'...

tl;dr I'll revise what I said to you in that other thread. I don't think you should kill yourself but you may want to look into/research the possibility of ending your life

I'm a more than a bit conflicted, Mitch. The older I get the softer I seem to be getting. When you want something as bad as these Suns fans want this it's difficult to not be affected. (We've) been there. I wanted that one in '10 so damn badly. I thought I'd die if we didn't get it. It's still like a dream sometimes. Thne afterward with Artest holding that emotional news conference; his entire family was there, his mom and dad, his wife and children and he came clean if front of the entire company, no advance warning to Media, no set up, just rang and took to that microphone. He recovered himself that night on that podium for all his transgressions. He was contrite and compact. I never saw it comin'. I'll never forget it.

I suppose I want the Suns fans to experience that feeling. The hate is draining from me. Win or lose I'll never do the O & __ again as long as I live.

In times of real life when it kicks you down and leaves you helpless I always think of the championships: the look on Kobe's face as the end came into view in '10. He was so frightened and desperate to have it just be over. No game face then as it came down to it. And Daddy there vs. Indiana, in the immediate aftermath coming to the restraining ropes and looking for his father with that terrified look on his face. If he hadn't rung there Media woulda went after him with a pair of pliers and a blow torch. The Media was merciless then. Took all the joy out of it for me. I just settled back into the Lazy Boy and rested. It was too much. And Kupchak in the Boston Garden after it was finally all over. He's in tears, his knee is shackled and Bertka is by his side. "Tell 'em what I told you."

"I'm still 6'10, 240."

These moments warm and help me get past another day, another crisis as the girl and I grow older. I cannot imagine going thru 52 years without having an NBA title in my possession. I know these guys, have fought with them since the Internet came on-line. I know just a fraction of what they're going thru and it haunts me and has changed me, Mitch. It's inexplicable, and I know how it must sound, but I can't help myself. They are so close to what (((they need))), and they need it so damn bad. I already have had that need sated. I'd like to see them win the last game they play.

Agreed that the 80s/90s aren't as tough as we are led to believe, but the game today is definitely softer, and tbh it's mainly on the perimeter/with perimeter players.

I'd actually argue that post play was called tighter back then. You can do anything short of shanking a guy on the block now, but if you hit a guy's face while contesting a jumper, it's a flagrant :lol

It's weird how some of these teams have performed better without their stars for at least a game. Clippers played a few good games without Kawhi. Suns without CP3. Hawks blowout Bucks without Trae. Bucks return the favor without Freak. It's almost as if the pressure is a little off, role players don't think too much and just play, and certain guys get comfortable with more responsibility on offense. There's an argument that both the Hawks and Bucks play better as a team without their respective stars. Issue is that when things don't go well, shots don't fall, they don't have that one guy to take over when no one else can and put the team on his back.

But in a way, it's more enjoyable than watching Trae draw hip fouls 40 feet from the basket and chuck logo threes every few possessions or watching Freak take two steps from halfcourt, elbows up clearing dudes grills, and pretending he's a graceful ballerina on his way to the hoop.

Save the super bogus call to gift them Game 4 and series could well be Clippers.

He may be able to coatail the Suns to a ring but i think it ends his first ever trip.

...and that will be the interesting part...if Paul is in for the remainder of his career; if he'll come here, make a homestead, vest himself in home & not hearth, but heart. He'll need Sarver to meet him half-way, give-OR-take a portion. Lengthen the contract, ease the monetary hit. Is Sarver willing to, with both hands dig into that Sarver Personal Boodle not only for Paul, but for a wide variety of deserving people? & not grudge it, but actually give up money as a gesture of selflessness, in broad daylight without wincing and living then in regret? Or, will Sarver hog it, smile at the cameras then hustle into his pesonal study, lock the door behind him and bring his fortune up on the Internet?

Vs Clips, save for the last game, the Suns played better without Paul on the court, especially with pace.
If I were a Suns fan, I would worry about Paul playing hero-ball in the finals.

That's because he wasn't healthy. He was coming back from Covid and Clippers broke his hand/fingers/wrist in Game 3.

If CP3 rings this year, he's third PG ever behind Magic and Isaiah. Oscar being fourth, Stockton being fifth.

No one is even close to Magic though. Might be the most lopsided best and second best of any position in the NBA tbh lol.

That’s an interesting proposition.

Although Oscar is often viewed as a top 10 caliber guy himself, while I think Zeke isn’t even considered top 20-25 to a lot of people. It’s a shame for those who didn’t really get to appreciate him the way Detroit fans did. He was basically a faster, better scoring mini version of Magic. Just watched that Bad Boys 30 for 30 again last night and relived some of those years, including that 25 point third quarter in game 6 of 1988 while he had a sprained ankle.

As for that proposition... small forward maybe?

I’m not even sure who would be third behind LeBron, Bird. Is it Dr. J? Durant? Elgin? Hondo? Guess it would depend whom you thought was third and how close you think he is to Bird.

Zeke is definitely underrated. The whole walking off the court in the Bulls series probably did him in in that regard, unfortunately. This guy was as tough and fearless as Iverson but with a much higher basketball IQ and leadership skills.

It’s also media and fan overblown.

It was a little glossed over in the 30 for 30 but not overlooked by Pistons fans. But when the Pistons finally got over on the Celtics in 88, the Celtics all walked off the court also with time left on the clock. However, there’s video of McHale shaking hands with Isiah so somehow that is remembered instead of Bird and the rest of the cast not shaking hands and just walking off. And Isiah even said, at that moment, they weren’t offended that the Celtics had walked off. They were like, oh shit, did we finally just beat them? But Jordan’s thin skinned bitchass had to feel all insulted over the same shit Larry had done because it was Isiah and the Bad Boys, and NOT video’d or at least not brought to attention was that Joe Dumars did trail behind and shake some of the Bulls players hands, just like McHale did. Shit got twisted because the Pistons were national villains.

So telling how the media shaped the perception of those two similar events.

Thank you. Specifically it was Michael. He was publicly quoted saying the Pistons were bad for basketball. And everyone outside of Detroit would be happy when they were gone. You put those thoughts out there in the media and then bitch and whine about their bad sportsmanship. Yeah okay... But the media was all too happy to oblige his Airness.

Birds career was cut very short by injuries. I think him and Lebron are really close, all era bias aside. I think LeBron is great but his image will be very different 10 years down the line. Third would be Dr J without question. A lot of folks I know would put him above Larry or Lebron tbh. Think it's a much tighter top 3 than PG. Durant is admittedly an all time great scorer but dude can't win without making unfair competition within the NBA due to this stupid fucking superteam trend. But that can also take a point away from Bron too so idk.

Duncan/Barkley/Malone can be looked at too, because Duncan was so much more successful, but skill wise it was close. Esp Barkley. He's so underappreciated.

Exactly

People are saying there was a lot of iso ballers back then because of the rules (no zone D) but Magic and Bird - who were talented enough to average 30 ppg - played in the no zone D era and were team 1st players. (James Worthy is another player who strikes me as an unselfish superstar, underrated)
They just had the right mindset so no excuse for Jordan

I'll clearly take LeBron over Bird. He matches Bird's peak while nearing Duncan's longevity. Taking that 09 Cavs roster to 66 wins in a conference with the defending champion Celtics and a pretty good Orlando team is about as impressive a season as I have ever seen out of a player. And I'd never call those Cavs teams superteams. Irving has never done much without LeBron with Love was exposed as empty stats. Also you can't tell me Bird's Celtics and Magic's Lakers weren't super teams. Built differently but same result with overwhelming talent disparities.

Absolutely right on the Lakers/Celtics superteams. Especially Showtime but didn't Celtics draft most of their high end roleplayers? How is that different from pre KD Warriors?

Regarding Bron, the longevity is insane but when matched against the greats of the 2000s, he lost twice to Duncan and once to Dirk. Would've lost to Kobe in 09 and '10 had he played him. As I said I think he's top 3 SF for sure but recency bias has him as a GOAT contender which I honestly think he lost when losing against Mavs.

He was drafted in what? 05? Bird, Magic, Duncan, Kobe all came in dominating and winning chips.

Of course he would have lost to Kobe in 09 and 10. Kobe had Gasol, Bynum, and Odom and LeBron had Mo Williams and then for a year the corpse of Antawn Jamison's career. Can't really blame him for losing to Duncan in 07, Spurs were a superteam with Duncan + Ginobili + Parker all in their primes while the Cavs starting backcourt was Boobie Gibson and Sasha Pavlovic. It would be like blaming Duncan for losing to the 01 Lakers when Terry Porter and Danny Ferry were starters for the Spurs. LeBron's 11 Finals were a disgrace for sure, but Bird got swept by Milwaukee and Magic threw away the 84 Finals, it happens even with the greats in their primes.

Timmy and Kobe parallel rings true here. Timmy could have easily averaged 30 ppg in his prime, but didn't for the sake of the team, and his unselfishness gave Tony and Manu room to blossom into all stars. Bird and Magic likewise brought out the best in their teammates.

When guys refer to "making your teammates better," this is the concept that I always think about. It's about giving them room to shine in the games and inspiring them off the court in whatever way works best.
