Wonder how much Dylan Harper we'll get to see.

IIRC, we got 2 games of Wemby and 3 games of Castle in SL, right?

Can't wait to see Topic cuz I love him as a player (but I'll definitely have mixed emotions).

I’d say since Kawhi… although Harper looks more polished. Son of a baller.

With Wemby we had a reasonably idea to what expect.

USC’s Chibuzo Agbo has committed to play Summer League with the San Antonio Spurs, per source. The 6-foot-7 wing averaged 12 points and shot 40 percent from three last season.

LSU’s Cam Carter is joining the San Antonio Spurs for Summer League, league sources say. Carter, represented by @OctagonBsktball, worked out for several teams during the pre-draft process.

Jamaree Bouyea has been a two-way player for the Bucks since the middle of last season.

Flynn has signed with a Turkish club.

Mensah is confirmed joining the Spurs SL after quite an adventure in Europe and Israel.

Nunez had surgery for a torn meniscus in March.

Nelson is a bit of a head scratcher. He's still playing in the Canadian league (CEBL, which might be the best "regular basketball" men's spring-summer pro league ever -- low bar) while other G-League vets have been temporarily released to participate in mini-camps, etc. Kyle Mangas and Osayi Osifo have been so released; I would put them in the "probable" category.

They shut Castle down early last summer like they always do with their cherished picks -- if he's in Vegas he'll be in street clothes.

The real question is Harper cuz he'll probably get shut down early too.

Better be there on July 10 to be sure.

Really looking forward to seeing Ingram and Minix.

I went and watched a game in Austin last year. Ingram was effectively invisible.

I like him a lot as a person, but he doesn't appear to be a viable NBA prospect.

Hopefully I'm wrong. It's a very small sample size. But against the low competition of the G-League you'd hope he stood out at least somewhat to have any hope in the big league.

I think Nunez' recovery time is six months so I wouldn't expect him in SL at all even if he wasn't under contract in Europe.

wasnt he averaging near triple doubles? No one is expecting a crazy playmaker but if he’s making shots, securing rebounds, and making all the right passes - that’s all you can ask for

I agree. Minix is very interesting. He did tear his labrum on January 1st, so this will probably be his first organized basketball in a while and I expect some serious rust. But he feels like the perfect kind of guy to put on a 2-way, plant in Austin, and just see what happens.

Triple doubles? No.

Harrison Ingram (32 games)
32 MPG
12.8 PPG
9.5 RPG
4.1 APG

42% FG
28.3% 3PT
57.1% FT

He was billed as a potential 3&D guy. But his defense is pretty bad and he can't shoot the 3 especially well.

For comparison, here is Riley Minix (admittedly in only 3 games, due to injury)

Riley Minix
24 MPG
12.7 PPG
4.7 RPG
1.3 APG

50% FG
43.8% 3PT

I agree. Minix is the guy. A big three-point shooter, just what they need more of.

But he's coming off an injury and he won't have that long runway for success (like those more coveted draftees PATFO's reputation is invested in). He may have to show it this year.

I'm really hoping and rooting for him.

Full schedule at https://www.unlvtickets.com/eventInfo/spe/866/nba-2k-summer-league/

All times Pacific:

Thursday July 10 7P @ 76ers

Saturday July 12 1P Mavericks

Monday July 14 5:30P Jazz

Thursday July 17 4P Hornets

All games at Thomas & Mack, all but Saturday's game either before or after the Lakers. So, so seats could be tough.

This is fairly normal scheduling with the top five draft picks in a round robin in Thomas & Mack.
The Lakers are always in Thomas & Mack because they pack the stadium.
Jazz & Suns are moderate travelers.
Meanwhile, non-Summer League, tourists are way down but for from LA.

Complete freedom. No need too get there early just to go back and forth.

You can easily go between those two arenas without ever going into that Vegas heat.

Nice interior foyer between the two venues replete with bars.

If you want to go to a later game, it's always a good idea to enter during the preceding game if there's room so you have a better choice of seats when that game ends.

Usually seating is not a big problem.

You just poke around for the seat(s) you want.

After each game, people go out for concessions and you can relocate.

The one exception to that rule was Wemby's first game. You sat through that entire meaningless game before hoping to move up in between.

No one left. No one moved a muscle.

If you even left your seat momentarily to try to move down, you did it at your peril.

Sure. I lived in Vegas for about 6 years and went every single year. It's a great event.

Thomas and Mack and the Cox Pavilion are connected and so you're able to freely walk between the two. You don't have to show your ticket or anything, they have a concourse connecting them. In my opinion, the games in the smaller Cox Pavilion are far superior. The space is much smaller and more intimate so I feel like I'm closer to the game than in the full arena of Thomas and Mack. Plus, at Cox you never know who you'll run into. You'll frequently sit next to players from other teams (many times other SL players, but sometimes NBA players). Or sometimes you'll notice Euros that are just watching. I remember seeing Davis Bertans in the arena the day before he signed with the Spurs many years ago. One time I sat next to a middle-aged dude and talked with him for a while not knowing he was the head coach of the Chicago Bulls, Fred Hoiberg. Stuff like that doesn't happen nearly as often in Thomas and Mack. Although I did talk to R.C. Buford in the concessions line three years in a row, lol.

In recent years they've started offering tiered tickets. They have general admission and VIP tickets. The latter costs more and allows you access to seats a little closer to the front. I found that the basic ticket was always good enough for me. Seating is open (in those two generalized sections - VIP and general) as an open rule.

I highly recommend avoiding Lakers games. They always put them in the Thomas and Mack and it's hard to find a good seat. But as soon as the Lakers game ends there is plenty of great choices of places to sit. Definitely always loved when the Spurs played right after the Lakers.

Since you buy the ticket for the full day (and not just a single game), some people will get there early and camp out all day. If you return for another day you have to purchase another daily ticket. They've been raising prices and you should really plan on going to at least two games.

Yea, I never made it to a Raider game either. Their first season was during Covid and nobody was able to attend. We moved back to Texas the next August before their second season even started. Oh well. I watched that stadium get built but never got to go inside.

Reminds me of an early season tournament some older St. Joseph's fans/alumni took me to some years ago. We got there early, pretty nice seats some rows behind one of the baskets, and there were two dudes talking in our seats as the players were warming up. Instantly I got the vibe of coaches (head and assistant) discussing ideas away from their bench. They very politely vacated our seats -- and I realized it was Mark Few from Gonzaga.

Cox Pavilion is neat because you can sit next to the roped off section and see all the players, coaches and executives taking in the games fairly close. Keep your head on a swivel when you're in the concourse as well.

Farrakhan blames Jews for the slave trade, plantation slavery, Jim Crow, sharecropping and general black oppression. Farrakhan’s tone grew more belligerent in June 2010, when he sent letters to several leaders of the Jewish community as well as the Southern Poverty Law Center demanding that they acknowledge the evils they have perpetrated and that they work to further Farrakhan’s goals. The letter ended with a threat to “ruin and destroy your power and influence here and throughout the world” if his terms were not met.

Playmaking could be a problem when Harper's not out there. Nelson was a dogshit ball stopper in Austin but he looked like he was doing somewhat better in the CEBL games I saw. Hopefully the non-PG types can move the ball.

Will be interesting to see if Bryant can show any flashes in this department. I don’t expect him to be a point forward or anything, but he’s shown some solid vision and passing abilities here and there. For the people who think he was capable of much more than what he showed in his limited role at Arizona…this could be a first glimpse of whether that’s true or not.

I don't want Harper to get hurt, but I'm not a fan of how the Spurs baby their players in summer league. They haven't taken SL seriously since 2015, and I think it shows in their development in general. No, guys who are hurt or at elevated risk of injury shouldn't play. But if they're healthy enough to play in a regular-season game, they should play in SL.

If we're talking about who might get the 3rd two-way slot, I'd slot in Mensah as the clubhouse leader for his higher level experience and just to keep him around unless some swingman shoots lights out or Nelson shows some PG skills or Diallo plays anything resembling offense. I do like Osifo because he doesn't make many mistakes but he doesn't do anything terribly well either and is a bit undersized. Gotta have at least one hook -- e.g., with Diallo you get 7 feet and blocks for sure.

Why wouldn't they exist? IMO It gives teams a chance to get more of a look at certain players. Vegas doesn't have many games. Having more games gives teams a better chance to see certain players play more games. I think it's fine to have those extra Summer Leagues. You just want to rest your NBA rookies a bit more, though, if they're going to play both Vegas and other leagues.

I forgot he even existed. I had to look up if he played in the NBA last season. Looks like he didn't. I saw his best season of his career was his last season with the Spurs. He shot 50% from the field and 39% from three point range (he hasn't come close to this number since leaving the Spurs) and averaged 9.7ppg (career high).

He was pretty solid. Played within his role, didn’t force shots, found the open man, played decent defense. Cody Williams also looked way better than he did any time during last season. The Jazz have some good young talent.

Topic looks good.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say he struggles to get into their rotation, because his defense is bad. OKC probably plays him spot/garbage minutes in an attempt to pump up his value and then monetizes him for a pick or picks.

Nah he looks way too good to sell off. He’s practically a baby Doncic. Only 19 too. You can basically just pencil him in as backup point guard. At least he’s disruptive on defense, gets many steals. Have seen much worse. Defense will be a work in progress for any rookie anyway.

Sure he is but he actually plays more like a wing honestly. He’s a 3&D guard basically lol. So I think you could fit him in wherever you need him on any lineup. He’s great tho no doubt.

Yeah, I think he fits nicely next to topic. Topic has some height to cover the taller guards maybe. Cason doesn’t have that kind of playmaking skill at all.

Heading into July, the assumption was the 19-year-old former Rutgers star would rest in San Francisco and then take the floor once the proceedings moved to the Las Vegas Summer League.

Whether that means Harper will play in the Spurs’ Vegas opener on Thursday against Philadelphia is still to be determined.

Asked if the plan was still for Harper to debut at some point during the Spurs’ run in Sin City, Summer League coach Mike Noyes struck a cautious tone.

“I don’t know if ‘plan’ is the right word, but it’s the hope for sure,” Noyes said. “We’ll make the decision that is best for the long term, but as a coach and everyone in the organization, we want him out there for sure. He will help us.”

Darn. I was really looking forward to seeing him play tomorrow. Hopefully he's alright.

Isn't the second game against the Mavs (with Cooper possibly playing?)? If so, aren't they putting a bit of pressure on him for his first game to be against the Mavs when he hasn't even played at all. I don't want him going out all that one when he hasn't played the whole SL.

Can’t overreact to summer league 😂 but I just watched the Beringer highlights and mfer looks like young Hakeem on defense 😂. 7 blocks in 23 minutes some as weak side and some man on man. And dunking alley oops from above the square like young Dwight.

Anyway, would have been tough for Spurs to take him knowing your franchise player plays the same position and they probably had the Kornet deal lined up already who might be the best backup C in the league or close to it.

I thought the Bulls or Hawks should have taken him at 12/13 he would have fit nicely there. Especially the Bulls.

I was screaming for Beringer hoping the fo would see it lol. Im upset. Spurs could use that athleticism. Bryant was my second choice tho. I’m sure there is another archetype like that in next years draft. I just liked him cuz he was a beast and he’d barely been playing ball.

Honestly Givony deserves some props he had Beringer in the lottery in his mocks about 9 months ago when most people never heard of him or had him second round and he consistently had him in the lottery on every mock up to the draft. It’s only closer to the draft others started catching on.

I was able to watch this game and honestly he was bad for like 80-90% of the time he was on the court.

Yeah, the closer the draft came I found myself more and more drawn to Beringer's potential, but I also had Carter Bryant (and Coward and Sorber) among the group of players I was interested in and I understand his skill set is hard to find so I don't fault the Spurs for going with him.

I could never get high on Sorber but I do think he will be a solid pro just the ceiling is limited plus he’s a heavy 260 pounds already at 19 and the foot injury is a concern. I was also drawn to the upside of Beringer, Bryant and Coward they were my top 3 choices at 14, as well as Fleming. I was ok with taking an upside swing at 14 which is what all of those guys are outside of maybe Coward who was more of a safer bet and os probably why he went the highest. Each of Bryant, Beringer, Fleming are high risk high reward imo.

doesn't surprise me in the slightest. made a major leap as a rim protector down the stretch against really high level opposition in europe.

his fluid footwork is so obviously translatable and makes him very switchable. patience and timing on block attempts is incredible for an 18-year-old too.

no shooting will limit his ceiling obviously but even if he only becomes lively 2.0 then MIN could have their long-term gobert replacement.

slightly hypocritical because I lobbied for a veteran backup C all offseason but he would've been a nice pickup at #14. just glad OKC didn't steal him tbh.
