Hard to complain. The Spurs got the obvious #2 guy and a promising 3&D wing with #14. Still gotta fill the starting PF and backup C spot but that's what free agency is for.

Not sure how Bryant will ever see the floor. I think he may be part of a trade perhaps with the Suns.
objective
06-25-2025, 08:53 PM
Now just trade for Collins and sign Brook Lopez and it's near a perfect off-season, adding a playmaker, a 3 & D wing, a legit PF, and a backup center who locked protects the rim and spreads the floor

OKC gets Sorber.
Time will tell if we made the right choice.
I think it's fair that we gambled on potential because Sorber's ceiling would've always been limited with Wemby on the roster.
Brilliant trade by Portland. They trade back and get a chance to draft Jaku if they want

Wemby (21)
Castle (20)
Harper (19)
Bryant (19)

Great young core, but it is time to consolidate with mid-prime vets/role players..

I think it's fair that we gambled on potential because Sorber's ceiling would've always been limited with Wemby on the roster.
Given the way the board broke, it was the right choice. I think Portland takes Bryant had Memphis not acquired the 16th pick in the Bane trade and then moved up.

Someone please explain Bryant to me. Feels like we just used the 14th pick to draft Champagnie.
I think the idea is getting an athletic defender, spot up shooter, event creator and play finisher who isn't asking for the ball to Kobe it up.
It's a good complement to the good defenders who don't create events like Sochan or Castle, and who should be good to go with 3 point shooting off the bat.
AND it's adjusting the roster away from the clown defenders of Keldon, Branham, Devin (sadly) and the sad history of Pop loving to pair Forbes, Belineli, and Mills together.
Whatever minutes he does play, they'll be minutes where the Spurs can have an aggressive defense.

Rooting for West bottom feeders and rebuilding teams to be stupid and bad for next years, tbh.. I'm also encouraging "blow it up" options for teams in middle (Pelicans/Grizz/Kings).. There is no way we should be sweating out every game compared to how trashy the East is. Eventually the injuries will pile up if you can't win in blowouts..

Branham stands to get no PT and the Vassell contract is a bit of an albatross. Barnes could be invaluable to mentor Bryant as was mentioned, Imagine a 20 year old Barnes with a 40 inch vertical. Keldon continue to like as a bench anchor matching up well against other team’s second units.

The Spurs' inability to get any value out of the many high-seconds they've had over the recent years is a worrying trend. Eventually they're going to go back to taking picks in the middle of the draft, and they've seemed unwilling to actually scout guys there. It's wasted assets year after year.
